Double-Half or One Ten without ham

Having (nearly) everything twice, being no longer just one of two in the week. Being a Pizza-lover like no other, disliking ham, hence the new title.

How Big Is Your Faith?

Whilst sorting things out on (or rather off) our little "pool-table", I found the container of one of the Lions-Watches.

I´m a thinker while sorting, my brain obviously doesn´t want to have anything to do with stuff like that (bad for when being asked: Where did you put this or that!).

Well. From good to bad memories of being and ceasing to be a Lions-Fan I came to being confiding, trust- or faithful... or... well naive?

From time to time we bought "fan-stuff" at the games. A shirt here, a cap there, some pins... One day we didn´t have enough money. The lady gave us the shirts anyways and said, "just pay the rest next time!".
Now I dunno. Back then there were always thousands of people there and we didn´t buy stuff that often, either.
Certainly we paid the rest next time.
But how could she be that confident? Does she do that with anyone or do we look that honest?

I left my car - with the keys! - with a farmer in France for over two weeks to go to England and travel by bike there.
He said, "in case we´re not here when you come back: The door is open and I put your key here".
Would I do that today???? Leave car + keys?

I left all the luggage with a taxi in Cairo for a whole day.
Whilst we wandered the museum, the luggage went who knows where, came back and we got a great tour tourists usually don´t get - family-dinner included.
Would I do that today???? Leave all my belongings?

In Oodnadatta, Australia, I was handed some batteries to deliver to a homestead 100 km away. In Windorah I worked the terminal for paying for gas myself, cause the guy there was blind (sure he would´ve heard if I used the wrong keys).
We left our car with all our belongings in many a garage there and never anything was missing.

I forgot my bag with all our money and passports in Cuba - and the guy at the bar went and kept it for me. Guess he even never ever looked inside.

Seems like I put a lot of faith into strangers when I was young - and never got disappointed.
None-the-less I don´t have that much faith now.
When Ingo wanted to hand my camera over the other day so some total stranger could take a pic of us together, I said, "yeah, sure... he´ll run away with that thing!".

How come????

After all I was rewarded, kinda, for my faith in younger years by all those helpful people later!

Does faith cease with age? Becomes faith equal to being naive?
Would be logical if I would´ve gotten betrayed, but I never was.

Shouldn´t, hence, my faith into strangers rather grow?

I´m confused... an idea, anyone?

We become more cynical as we age. As a reasonably young traveller I went to Japan. A friend and I visited the Tottori Sand Dunes - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tottori_Sand_Dunes - and we left our backpacks with the lift operator. He told us to be back by close of business and he'd look after them until then. I was never one to trust strangers but my mate said it was OK. And it was.

Later in the trip we visited Nagasaki and took part in the lantern festival following the A-Bomb commemoration. Hundreds of people were involved, at night, and it was too difficult to carry my backpack. So I just put it down by the side of the road until we'd finished. And it was still there, completely intact, when I came back.

My faith in people was never stronger.

All this came after lending an Brit 20 pounds when he only wanted five and I didn't have anything smaller and I never saw him again.

Can't have too much faith.

Well, "at least" you had one bad case... I´d love to have more faith (again)... and I hate being cynical. But can you deny age? ;-)
No, seriously... guess I´ll try hard to show faith again. And then let´s see...
