Happy With Voltaire?

I´m done with the book on being more optimistic I bought the other day.
A good book, one advice was to have a real notebook and note all the little things that make you happy or thankful throughout the day. Nothing new, but I will give it a go.

Years ago my friend P presented me with this notebook above and I never knew what to use it for - who writes something down by hand these days?

"'Since it is beneficial for your health I decided to be HAPPY.' Voltaire"

Yep, that fits, huh?

And maybe my handwriting improves, too, it´s plain horrible!

In case you´re interested, the first notes were my neighbour A, who left the house with me this morning and we had a quick, nice chat (he even could answer my question on where I parked my car!). Nature looked beautiful on the way to work. Teamleader TII came by cause he "needed a tissue", aka wanted to chat. And I sure felt very thankful for my job when the cleaning lady rushed in and out like crazy, always hectical. Thankful for having had the luck to grew up as a "Wessi", seeing a documentary on GDR.

  1. It's always a good idea to be thankful for what we have!
A cousin of mine who used to suffer from depression was told by the psychologist to write something positive every day in her diary and that she would actually improve. It helped!
As you say there's a lot of people worse off than us just because they were born in a different country.

  2. I think this is a great idea Iris! I have a little book I keep by my bed and write down three things I'm grateful for before bed each day - its really important to keep a positive outlook on life!

  3. So I´m on the right way :-)
I read a couple of books on this subject yet by nature I guess I´m at least rather a realist (my Mum called me pessimist).
