At the corner of Hay Street and Barrack Street you find the Perth Town Hall - I must´ve passed this "Centenary of the city" uncountable times without noticing, always being on the run.
It shows "The Foundation of Perth 1829", actually a painting by George Pitt Morison.
I find two things especially interesting - Perth was founded to avoid the French language in the area.
Well, kinda ;-)

And to claim the area they went to where now Kings Park is and fell a tree.

Considering the CBD and Braunschweig´s inner city are about the same size but Braunschweig being "a tad" older...
It is unknown when the town was really founded, but "the legend gives the year 861 for the foundation", well that makes Perth a Baby or Toddler, don´t you think?

ReplyDeleteMy city was founded in 1826 when the Canal project started. So yours is nearly a millennium older.
