This is a piece of a paper bark tree.
Grace looped me back.... to two of the most wonderful journeys I was allowed to make.
(We had loads of great journeys, but these were the best!).
This piece is from Millstream Chichester NP, where huuuu.. brrrr... grasshoppers attacked me.
I was wearing one of Ingo´s t-shirts, which means a lot of my skin was "available" (no worries, there was nothing to see!). And I´m rather small.
Those darn critters jumped at my décolleté and grabbed me with their ugly little claws, realised I´m not a tree, kicked me and jumped back.
One after the other, too! EEEEEEK.
To feel them grabbing my skin, EEEEK!!!
And if you don´t know... insects in Australia are a "tad" bigger than here in Europe. EEEEEK.
Ingo went first, so I thought he "wakes them up" and they get at me, so I went first.
Nahhh. Same.
That was 1995.
1999 I bought a blouse way too large so I can huddle up.
Not ONE grasshopper, it wasn´t the season and people looked at me like I was crazy. Ohhh, help! :-)

The paper the paper bark-piece is on is all old, too, it was white once. Now I have to find a way to give both a proper place to "live in" - any creative suggestions?

We left Perth 1999 on December 7th.
Instead of partying into the Milennium!
There was still money left as we always slept in the car on some rest areas or side roads for free.
We had an Esky and rarely "dined" out. And if, it was Pizza Hut, not that expensive. Or Maccas sometimes.
Once (I think that was 1995), in Alice, we went into a real restaurant, into a pizzeria - they had pictures of famous visitors there. Tom Selleck was one of them!!!!
I accidentailly had anchovies on my pizzs. Huhhh. Yes, I still remember that!
At the rest area they had free HOT showers!
I could go on and on.

ReplyDeleteYou sound like me. I used to travel the whole U.S. on vacations every year. I also slept in rest stops and only got a motel once in FL because it was too muggy to stay in the car. Our rest areas don't have showers, but I always knew how to clean myself well in the sink and toilet. I always had clean hair, too. Changed clothes in the stalls. Now I'd be afraid to stay in rest areas because there are too many bad people who frequent there.
Elizabeth :-) Rest Areas are mostly plain areas. We had a solar shower on the roof. Or took cold, free showers at the beach.

I agree, those days are over... Glad we did it back then!!!
I’m keeping away from memories of travel. We still love to make trips to interesting places, and are missing one this month and we are afraid will miss the one coming up in June too. To stay in the house and avoid disease. Who would have foreseen this?

Ugh to the grass hoppers Iris, I haven't had that experience but then there was the time I was standing on a red ants nest taking pictures of the view when both P and Aimee shouted out to me MOVE! I will remember that :)Gosh how different Perth looks now to 1995!

ReplyDeleteI used to catch grasshoppers and put them in a jar with grass when I was a kid. Had holes in the top of the lid so they could breathe. :) It's funny because I was just talking about that this morning when I was washing a large jar. The jar reminded me of that. :)

I have seen a kind of these trees in Japan when I went there with my school a few years ago. They are really cool, aren't they? But no giant grasshoppers. They don't sounds very fun. But it is nice to remember, isn't it? Now if only the virus would disappear so we could get back to normal. Or at least whatever noral we were before the virus. Smile. Hope it's a good weekend Iris.
