College Football (this is not (only) about football).
So crazy - a buffalo in the stadium! Or...
107 000 fans in white! They do have some weird - and also wonderful traditions, I learned yesterday. (We get it on TV here now!!!!)

...the stadium near the Children´s hospital.... they have "Wave to the kids" 🥰
Now, isn´t that nice? They get so loud the kids hear them, parents bring them to the windows so the sick kids see the players and fans cheering at them to get well.
That´s the difference between soccer and football!
I am so sick and tired of seeing police, that I´ll soon pay for again from my taxes, attending soccer-games around the corner to keep the soccer-hooligans at bay.
Once (!!!) security - paid by the football-teams, NOT the common tax-payer - was hired for a game between Germany and "Orange" here in Braunschweig.
But football fans are fans and don´t fight, security was obsolete and only those security-guys who wanted to watch the game stayed 😘
Watch American Football in Germany and you get:
Er hat den Play-call verkackt. That´s how American-Germans comment a game. 🤣
Verkacken. Well, how to translate that... "screwed up"... "fu#ked up".
I usually hate the mix up of languages but this was funny!
Verkacke den Play-call, really, do that. Not good. But funny.
You have to think POSITIVE, the speaker said - just like my Mum back then aaand....

And then ... massive Quarterback-Sack.
And in American Football Germans say "Pöppes" for "Popo", aka "butt".
Pöppes. He got it on his Pöppes!

I don't understand American football any more than I understand Australian football. I do know that I HATE soccer because of the fans. Why do they find it so hard to control themselves? Maybe if soccer fans were banned everywhere for a decade or two, they might learn some manners? just play the game and let the fans watch on television at home, no more crowds at the games.

ReplyDeleteI dislike that soccer fans say they are playing football, when they are NOT. Soccer requires a basically round ball, where a football is shaped like an iris. Theu don't seem to understand we Americans are really offended by their use of one of our national pastimes. Thanks for sharing this, and good luck on Monday. Love the idea of cheering for the children at the hospital, too.

Yeah, I'm not much of a sports fan. Every sport has rabid fans. Sweet idea to cheer on the children at the hospital. There must be a reception/information desk or security desk in the lobby. If you don't know where to go, you can always check in at the desk telling them you're new.

Only two now:
Cardiff, night in a lonely park, me and my son walked to come back to the hotel with the Italian scarf around the neck. We met a group of welsh supporters and they asked: "Italian supporters"? We said yes and they: "let's go to drink a beer together"!!!!!
Rome, Olympic stadium: me and my grandson alone in the middle of irish supporters. They offered coca-cola and cakes to him. At the end of the match they gave him their irish flag too.
I never watch the football until the Super Bowl. It is exciting though.

I am not a football or soccer fan. Maybe if I understand the game, I may become one. I don't like crowd so I won't join the fans in the crowded stadium. Crowd and images of fans being stampeded scare me.

And the crowds at American Football behave well. Otherwise I would not go, either, I hate crowds!
My son follows Bayern Munich and the German national team, and I keep up because of that. I watch some (American) professional football but not much.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a football fan at all. (It was awful when youngest kid Kevin played football and we had to go to the games!). But a couple weeks ago I watched the Michigan State/U of Michigan game -- a huge rivalry -- and I was riveted. I guess it depends on my mood at the time and who's playing!
