I don´t like white asparagus but I suggested to Ingo to look for some cause he loves it and the season is only till end June.
He got himself some and asked me to peel them for him - don´t ask me why, I did because when my PC has a fit Ingo takes care about that, fair is fair and to do the job good I googled it...
Here is how to peel asparagus.
This man advises to use your arm for support to not break it (he was actually right after all, I managed to break one)... but... see... Braunschweig is white asparagus-country and Ingo bought local.. a "tad" taller..
Reminded me of Crocodile Dundee´s explanation about what a knife is.
So sad he got in a fight with Grill´d about the knife...
Well, look what I got!!!!
No se#-related comments on this (or just go ahead and make me laugh).
By golly. And yet I managed to break one...
Just what cheese to get?
You should think.. Europe. You are close to France, Ireland... but I love Bega and you don´t get that here. Nothing that tastes like it. Or has the consistency.
As Mondays are bad for grocery shopping (they stack up) I´ll go tomorrow and check. Tilsit it likely will be. And maybe with ham, too.

Enjoy, I won´t (funnily I like small ones from the glass).
And YES, certainly I joined Sami, too - just scroll down!
(It is very embarrassing when you pop into a post for you but - even if 05:00 a.m. is early you are 8 hours late cause your friend is in... oh, wait, South-Australia is even different!! Well, I was late, I am sorry!)

Wow those are gigantic!
ReplyDeleteI remember feeling almost like a heretic in Salzgitter, as everyone enthused about white asparagus ... and I love the green one, you should try these, better taste, less work - no heaping, no peeling, just pick and eat!
Yes, I do like the green one, but you hardly find it here!
ReplyDeleteSalzgitter gets the Braunschweig one, too? Oh, hope Ingo does not find out ;-) - he drives there every working day!
I've never had white asparagus. Only green ones. They were a welcome Spring dish my mother made around Easter. She made a salad of sorts blanched asparagus drizzled with lemon juice along with hard-boiled eggs. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteI haven't had asparagus in a year or so. I'll check my store and buy, if available.
ReplyDeleteWe had fresh green asparagus yesterday and it was great.
ReplyDeleteCJ, yours sounds yum!!!!

gigi, I won´t ;-)

RedPat yes to green (just where to get it here?)....
I only had asparagus once and didn't care for it.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness those are huge! I have never seen white asparagus but have heard of it. We started a new patch last year, purple asparagus. I am looking forward to trying it for the first time, but that won't be until 2026.
ReplyDeleteBill, I don´t like it, either... but Ingo, so ...

Sue, oh, purple sounds interesting - maybe like the green one? Let me know, please!
No need to apologise, I know the time differences are huge. And you have other things to do.
ReplyDeleteI did not know about white asparagus, nor how big it grows. I also did not know that asparagus needs to be peeled. Even the small green ones?
I bought some nice green asparagus recently.
ReplyDeleteLove that scene from Crocodile Dundee.
All the best Jan
