... you might save it until you loose it. I did.
Ingo´s Grandma gave me 50 euro as a birthday gift with the plea to buy something nice for me. Really for me. To not put it in the purse and buy everyday-stuff like bread and milk.
And to show her the treasure. Well. She didn´t call it treasure! Not at all!
But I couldn´t find anything worthy enough.
Now here I sit with the 50 bucks still in the white envelope.
After she came to the old people's home, was sad, found friends from the old days, she recovered quickly.
Just 1 1/2 weeks ago she went to my brother (who is an optometrist) to get new glasses. She started knitting again!
All is good, we thought.
We went on holidays (well, holidays... Ingo is still sick. But maybe I come to the good parts later). Saturday we went back home, ran errands went to see "our" team play and win yet again in American Football, came back home at around 10:30.
Several calls on the mobile (it´s too loud at the games, so we left them behind, very immobile).
Grandma is in hospital, situation very serious.
We got a phone call Sunday morning that it´s ok to come and visit her. So we went.
First time in ages (years, really) I was in Ingo´s parents´ house.
Went to the hospital. There she was. Even morphine couldn´t make her painless. She never woke up.
I feared I have to say good-bye to her and she can´t even hear me.
She passed away yesterday.
Never again will there be her, getting a very joyful face when recognizing us and exclaiming, "my children!!!", with all the three of us knowing it´s grandchildren.
She said it gleefully and with a content undertone,
"my children!!!".
I could have given her a very happy moment, maybe by just showing her something I love, pretending to have been bought from her birthday-money.
Or maybe she would´ve seen through me anyway. And be sad I tried to lie. May I did it right after all.
Just. That she possibly thought I just took the money and forgot? No...?
She never let me take a pic of her. And I did respect that.
So I can´t even show you how she looked like.
We had a rather rough start. But we came around great then. I miss her.
Monday we will attend the funeral.
She was a modern woman with her 89 years. No trouble for her family to care for a grave. She didn´t want that.
Just like my Grandma, who passed away 7 years ago.
What will I say/think? Thank you? Farewell?
Don´t save precious moments too long...

I'm so sorry for your loss Iris. I hope it was a peaceful departure for her and not too terrible. I mean .. I hope she felt nothing.
You can still buy yourself something nice - show her - she'll know. She will.
It's never easy to lose someone close. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
Thank you both!
The idea of showing is a good one, makes me feel more at peace, too!
I'm so sorry, Iris. I have loved hearing your tales of Ingo's grandmother - she shounded like a wonderful, loving, warm, funny person (very unlike my own grandmother). I second Wendy's idea, buy something nice with the money and know that it's from her and love it because of that.
My sympathy to you and Ingo on your loss.
