(Not only?) in Braunschweig we have a tradition:
You don´t love/need/want something anymore, collect it, put it in a box and have it in front of your house.
People will come and (eventually) take it and are happy.
Guess!!

The Little Prince and you can put in permanent dates to remember, how very sweet and cool is this? It was empty, too! Unused!
As mentioned, this is from one of my favorite books, sadly in German.
Translations often fail to bring on the real feeling, I think, no?
But then.. better this than nothing, right!

T (no Braunschweig-person) always says this is illegal - pffff, what do you think, do you do this, too? I do :-)
This neighbour sure made me smile big and the calendar now hangs right by my PC.
And for people like that I am thankful, as for so much more!
(Like yesterday was my SIL´s birthday and I called her - she really was happy about that! Despite she had guests (I didn´t know, it was a Thursday after all) we chatted for over half an hour.)

Here people often put items out the front of the house and if is isn't junk it gets picked up, but mostly furniture and stuff.
Yes, that is good, here it´s mostly cuppas, glasses, toys and such.
We do two things -- either what your neighbor did (but mostly that is furniture or big things) or donate it to Goodwill or a service. Or a tag sale, but I hate doing that because it's a lot of work. I love going to them though. You found the best thing you could possibly find. The illustrations chosen are wonderful. Love Little Prince!
What a super fab find Iris, you were so lucky. Yup we do that too, I didn't realise we could but a person round the corner from me puts things out regularly and they disappear! I haven't tried it yet 😊
Jeanie, yes, that is my issue also: It´s work to try and sell stuff. Sadly often here some people gather and do sell later..

We have a twice a year verge clearance by the Council when people put out furniture, white goods and all sorts of rubbish.
Other people drive around collecting stuff and restore it as sometimes it's good stuff.
I've also joined a "buy nothing" group on Facebook for my neighbourhood and people donate a lot of things they don't need and don't want to sell which is good.
We have to pay to get rid off the big stuff, but that "buy nothing" group sounds great! Sadly I found nothing Braunschweig-related, so I´ll end up with boxes on the street ;-)
