Sometimes I join this meme, where you get some words and come up with a story.
I am a boring, un-creative person and can only write about true life (pic on the way to Darwin, NT).
But River´s story sure triggered my brain, and you find the background of the meme there, too.
She´s from Australia and hence...
I went for the words: unsuitable, ladies, didn´t, crocodile, home, cards, life, voice
Here goes:
It got dark in Kakadu National Park, in the North of Australia in 1995.
Maybe it was unsuitable and rather ugly for ladies to wear long trousers and thick socks over them in the heat, but the mossies must´ve been kept at bay and you cannot wear "Bushman" every night! It´s the ultimate repellent and there are warnings to not sit on plastic chairs (car, too!), and... take care it does not touch parts of your glasses, if plastic.
So... I didn´t care how I look, it was dark anyways, right.
We slept in the car, luckily!
When sitting outside before going "to bed" I really do think we saw a crocodile, not a salty, luckily!
But either way, just huhhhh, imagine you sleep in a tent!!!
As dangerous as this country is... wish I could call it a home for good.
But we´re too old now. Australia does not accept people over 50 as permanent residents.
When bored we played Mau-Mau, a game of cards - and 90% I won.
Ingo still kept playing, isn´t he the cutest?
This was one of the best journeys in my life!
I it was some other holiday, though, my Dad´d passed already.
We came home, as in ended up in Kassel, and Ingo went to call a friend to pick us up.
I sure had a "jet lag", was overly tired, as I cannot sleep on planes, I was to guard our luggage and nearly fell asleep, waiting, when suddenly...
Through the speaker my - long gone Dad´s voice came:
"Mrs K, please, Mrs K!!!"
This really all happened. I was wide awake and had my eyes on our belongings.
Thank you for the memories, this meme really is fun, when I catch a thought!
Henry 🦁
He was not seen in Australia back then!
And yes, two posts again today, say thanks to River 🤣

...Iris, you and Ingo have had the opportunity to live and enjoy some interesting and exciting areas. Enjoy each day as it comes your way.
Fun read. Interesting you can't move to Australia permanently if you are over 50. Guess they have to pay retirement monies and everyone would move there. I love that photo out guys sitting outside of the car. I've never been to Australia but I would love to visit. Happy start to the weekend Iris.
Tom, yes, oh, we try!!! I am thankful, too, so much!

Erika, yes, they can be picky over there, sadly.
At first I not enough work experience and now Ingo is too old.
But you can visit no matter your age, so GO (when Corinna lets us again) - Happy weekend!
The worst mosquito night I can remember is one spent in camp along the North Saskatchewan River.
Fun story. I had no idea countries wouldn't accept applicants for citizenship if over a certain age. If you're too old, I have one foot in the grave and sinking fast. 🎃
That is a fun croc. You have had some great trips.
William, the lake´s name breaks my tongue already!
____
CJ, yes. Australia is hard to come by.
Points for everything, and they are no guarantee, either.
And if you are sick... not a chance. No matter if you have money.
We all have one foot in.... well I´ll get cremated!

RedPAt, ... have had are the right words. Hope we can turn them into "will have again"! All of us!!
This was such an interesting post. Yes, I agree with you that it would not be good to sleep in a tent with a crocodile nearby. LOL.
:-) - yay to cars!
Fantastic Friday Post - Excellent Photos - Enjoy Your Weekend
Cheers
Interesting post, I didn't know these rules about Australia.
A crocodile outside the tent is not the best company.
Beautiful photos.
Another fun memory to include in your memoir.
The dancing crocodile is very amusing, but I suppose a real croc would be no joke. We were warned about them when we were waiting on a dock for a boat to take us to an island on the Great Barrier Reef -- quite an adventure.
best... mae at maefood.blogspot.com
I hope when my hours are shorter or retire. I can join other in creative stories.
Coffee is on and stay safe
What a fun read. I enjoyed the story and seeing you two in Australia in your car.
Padre, thank you - a happy weekend to you, too, cheers!

Black Knight, yes, sad rules. And yay for the car!
____
Bill, memoir, LOL, sounds like I´m 80 year old!
____
Mae, Yes, a real one sure is frightening. It was buta freshy, yet, dangerous, too.
How was the Reef? We only visited Coral Bay and that was already beautiful.
____
Dora, yes, I look forward to hear them!
____
Elizabeth, thank you :-)
I liked your story, but after seeing crocodiles I would head for a hotel to sleep, they can't find me there and maybe the mosquitos can't find me there either.
River, the next hotel... back then that would´ve been a three-hours-drive, LOL!
Nice memories of your trip to the Northern Territory. I didn't get to see the giant crocodile statue, it's strange because it's near the road we took to Kakadu but our guide didn't stop there for photos.
Glad you slept in the car, I wouldn't be in a tent either...
Enjoy the weekend Iris.
I hate mozzies with a passion, just when they buzz in your ear at night when you're trying to sleep is just the worst.
Sami, it looked old even back then, maybe the croc has retired by now? ;-)
Yes, we were thankful for the car, LOL!!! Back then you could stay for free where you wanted... huhhh... dangerous! To a happy weekend, kale here, hmmm (and 2C)

Amy, I´m SO with you! They ... one (!) tastes Ingo and then it passes it on: "Take the woman, she´s more yummy, I bet - he tastes awful!"
My life...
Your travels have been many. Like Mr. M. and I, we have traveled all over the US and I have been to several other countries. Memories made.
Some memories, those!
Thank you for sharing them with us. :)
