03/03, Perth – My Name Is Iris

Ok. So I finally "dare" to tell you about this day - at least the first half of it.
It was hard to not overdo it with the pics.

And again I had to laugh about myself, too.
It was not "lost in translation", I´d said the same stupid stuff in German. Boy-oh-boy....
I think there will be one man in Mt Lawley who one day might have a daughter, he will not call her Iris.

But let me start with what I actually wrote on the third of March, right?

This morning, after a fruity brekkie Grace and Pat picked us up to go for a mural-hunt in Mt Lawley (thanks again!) - 9:15 we started and the freeway was full still!

Go to Mt Lawley, it´s an awesome place!

I could bore you to death with all the murals we found, we were so dang excited, if there´d been people they´d probably thought we´re crazy.

Here, those near-naked dudes, too cute, no?

And it´s not only murals, Mt Lawley is just an arty place!
Look at this bus-stop Grace pointed me towards!

Or this bathtub, awww, so cute!
That´s what we should´ve done with ours, too!

And now I know what it is all about the knitting for trees and other stuff, even in Braunschweig I was wondering!

To make the places where you lock up your bikes nicer, easy as this! Bike Network Plan!

Bike btw... hehe how "naughty" are these guys?

After all this awww and ohhh we sure needed a break and stopped at a little ... hmmm.... café?
Again I have to say the water-thingy is amazing:
You get free tab-water with your order!

And if we ever go to a fancy restaurant, thanks Pat I now know how to answer the water-question :-)

Again the full pics are over here.

Refreshed we went on with the hunt!

Awww, I sure do admire artwork like this!

For more art by Jerome have a look here.

Oh, and look at this - sadly it looks like she eats the table, kinda, but, wow, arty!

We found a lane so lonely (inbetween the week), yet full of beautiful murals, it was truly amazing, go for it!
Right behind IGA, kinda – ask Grace for directions! The one who wanted to give up already.
Dunno if "Frida" was my motivation - my Grandma who raised us was named like this - I insisted and Pat found it :-)

Awwww, beautiful, no?

And here is Frida:

But this was my absolute favorite!

Pat also found my stature and they all made me copy her.

People were looking at me as if I´m crazy, but when I said my name is Iris they smiled (and noticed my T-Shirt?).
And maybe thought, aww, well, yes. That explains a lot. If I ever have a daughter... ;-)

We shared some very yummy pizza at the pub crn Beaufort ST / Grosvenor RD where also a google street view car passed by - maybe you can find us there :-)

The public loos were also worth some pics there:

Too funny again. We came to chat about all kind of stuff – amongst America, Europe and dog-poo. Don´t ask.

As usual we did not eat it all up and I was like „???????“ when Pat asked me if he should get a doggy-bag for us.

LOL.
And another thing you do not have in Germany!
You can ask when paying, please pack the rest of the meal to take home (complicated as we are), but this was... hilarious after our conversation.
Lost in translation, huh?

Back to the car I took another load of pics, my, what beautiful houses!
Grace explained young people buy them now for huge money and renovate – good on them for preserving it all!

We went into a place I spotted earlier, „Little Horrors“.

We expected a pub or such but nope, was kiddies`clothes.

The lady looked at me and told me she likes my T-Shirt, smiled and asked where I´m from.

Let me tell you!
Heaps of Braunschweig-people wear Braunschweig-shirts, bags and all!

Well, I said, Germany, and she replied she thought so and where from?
She´d been to Cologne and traveled around and loves Germany (huuuhhhh, really?).
It´s a small world!
I again had to explain why Perth....

And wow, she´d been to the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich.
It still gives me the creeps.
Ingo´s Dad was there as one of the police officers, his Mum pregnant with Ingo´s Bro.
No infos got out but "one police officer killed".
Horrible, huh???

Anyhows, Grace confirmed I have an accent – I wasn´t aware of that!!! Really?! A German one? I had an English-teacher from Great Britain!

Well, after a very quick good-bye Grace and Pat dropped us off with the doggy-bag at the red lights.
Very likely wondering about our rush – seesh! In Germany the phases at the red lights are waaaay shorter!
Dang – red. Dang – green!

This was part one - and yes, there were tons of pics you did not have to look at ;-)

Thanks again, Grace and Pat for a treasure-hunt and yummy Pizza!

The mural with the leaves poking out as the hair is just gorgeous! My favourite too.
You got to visit a lot with Grace, lucky you!
