How Many For A Light Bulb?
M had warned us the East Frisian jokes are there for a reason (follow the link, there are some translated to English when you scroll down).
We strolled through Emden on Saturday, it was also market day:
I expected heaps of fish... after all we´re right at the coast. Nope, no fish.
On we strolled to find this woman, or rather her statue:
Peterke, I sadly found no more info on her, just that she was a "trash" or road sweeper...
It was hot. Humid and hot.
We went into a pub/café and ordered two Alster, a Shandy, as you call it.
10 minutes went by, 15... I could see the girl at the counter, bored to death, doin´ nothin.
The girl who took our order was "busy" talking to her colleague.
After some 20, 25 minutes we left, still thirsty, heaps.
Ya know... if they´d been busy, we´d understand! But one girl was bored, the other chatted... service?
We found another pub and seats right at the open doors, awww..
I have no idea, but according to Ingo the girl at the counter did it all wrong.
First, rinse the glass with cold water - fail.
Then fill in the lemonade - fail.
Then the beer - she did it the other way round and there was lots of froth, hence.
Awww, well. At least she was rather quick and it was sooo refreshing.
And just like in Braunschweig, too.
The guests outside were known and one worked for the other, "hey, Karl, can you take the beer for Heinz?" :-)
And, certainly...
Just the ad in the background, certainly!
The counter-girl gave us a hint where to get a fresh fish-burger, but, alas, the info was wrong or not understandable for us.
At least we found Esmeralda...
Dunno. Weird name for a boat. I rather think of the sad, ugly ringer of Notre Dame...
We then went to another place where you could buy fish and dine "in", or, in summer, outside.
Surprise!
Our table moved some - I kid you not - 5 cm from side to side! A "foot" was missing.
The waiter very likely knew but did not say a thing.
I ordered...
"For the wee ones" - three fishfingers. And was happily surprised I could!
There are restaurants who refuse to give you small portions declared for kids or retirees.
Well. He did not ask if we´d like something to drink?
And please... this is not Australia!
No tab-water! Nothing!
35C and nothing to drink.
I ordered fried potatoes with the fishfingers, Ingo had something that was ready to eat, too.
We waited.
And waited.
The waiter was likely younger than me but ran around like the ringer of Notre-you-know.
He could´ve carried a sign: I hate my job!
And he stayed, if possible inside (don´t talk to me).
You know Ingo, huh? Kinda mad.
I was faster and said, once he came out, "Excuuuse me...".
In (near to.... gahhh, awww, well) no time he came back with a paper plate, folded it, put it underneath the table - ha! - the problem is known! Wasn´t enough, he had to take second and all was good.
And you know why this had happened?
Ingo saw the guys at the table behind us... CLACK! 5cm to the other side. CLACK!
Those guys accepted the situation just like that (I´m not kidding, I saw it myself)!
If the guest does not complain, you don´t have to do the job...
Well. After some 20 minutes or more the food arrived.
Nothing thrilling about it, the potatoes... gah.
What took so darn long?
P.s. You need five East Frisians to exchange a light bulb. One holds on to the bulb, four turn the chair round and round.
Pic galore again, "sorry". It´s a beautiful lille town.
And I reckon most don´t use light bulbs anymore and there are slow, unmotivated peeps everywhere, too.
No offence to the people there!
But, seesh, those jokes, huh?

It does look like a pretty place, pity about the service or the people that those jobs...
I had a friend called Esmeralda. What came to mind was actually the group Santa Esmeralda that sang "Don't let me be misunderstood". Do you remember?
Ahh, yes, I remember that song, just didn´t know the name of the band!
I never heard the name in real life before...
