Back to the Braunschweig book, if you like.
What is happiness?
Hermann Hesse stated it´s nothing but love. Aristoteles said it´s about being content with yourself and Hemingway…. Good health and a bad memory 😉
Tobias Rahm from Braunschweig Technical University does research on this.
Not in the sense of treating illnesses but on how to make people more happy, more content, have less stress. He gives trainings and every year on March 20 since 2019 he hosts the “International Day of Happiness” – ha, yes, that comes from “my” city! Even KIKA, a children´s learning program, is involved.
His advice:
Try three good things:
For one week write down three good things that happened throughout the day. Add what you did to make it happen.
Here you find the training (you have to download a .pdf).
It´s German, but deepl for example solves that problem, and guess whom you find on page 12, telling you you did a good job?

My three... Laughing with colleagues, summer aka Ingo put on the sun brolly and I read a Braunschweig-thriller, Ingo made yummy potatoes with curd.
What did I do for it?
Worked hard, so we all could laugh. And told N what a great job he did, boy, that made him happy, and hence me.
Asked Ingo for the sun-shade.
Gave the go for the curd that was beyond "best before"-date after sniffing.
What makes you happy?
There are so many choices and aren´t we glad we don´t have to pick?
Who could?!
Love, health, good job, nice home, holidays, family, friends, did I mention love? Cool stuff, sitting on the balcony with a good book, flowers, a good meal, someone saying "BRAVO" to your work (oh, that made me happy! It came straight from Barcelona, too), watching Peanut and his Sibling playing or jumping on the balcony whilst you sit there, ohhhh. A good movie, a nice walk?
Just feeling good! Right?
And... peace 💙💛
To a happy Friday (and weekend)!

Happiness is loving and knowing you are loved in return.
Happiness is also being content with what you have.
Yes, lucky we have that!
Thinking of that... we have but one word for it, not two.
Glück is luck and happy. Who says the Germans are complicated, you are ;-)
A wonderful post. I'm happy I found your blog through Elizabeth's T Day.
I wanted to write down a few things that make me happy, but there are so many, there is no beginning. Glad it's so much
I would say that I'm content instead of happy. And that is enough for me.
I'm generally a happy person. I can't say I always go with the flow, and I can't say my expectations in life are low, but for me, if I don't expect too much, then I'm not disappointed. Little things make me happy-fresh picked strawberries, finishing a project, watching nature, the dogs, my husband making me laugh...sorry that's more than 3, right? Smile. Have a great end of your Friday and start to the new weekend Iris. And be happy-hugs-Erika
I don't write down my five gratitudes a day every night anymore, but I list them in my head. And usually those are things that make me happy. Some are silly (a perfect close parking spot on a rainy day), others sappy (Rick's smile, or his getting better), some sweet (Lizzie's purr). Lots of things make me happy -- fresh flowers, lemon sorbet on a hot day, swimming, painting, Harry the Heron, great phone call with a good friend, a road trip.... you'd better stop me!
Loved Ernest Hemingway's definition!
Good to have a nice home, a patient husband, and a supportive family. Gigi hawaii
Most of us have many good reasons to feel happy and grateful.
My happy place is painting, I really get lost. Gardening is another good one.
Always great to be told you have done a good job. Enjoy the weekend Iris.
An “International Day of Happiness” sounds like a great observation. It's an interesting subject, isn't it. "Happy" tends to be my usual state, so it takes something to take away my happiness.
I guess my comment disappeared again.
Happiness for me is when I'm out and about taking photos. I can aso be happy staying home and reading. Hope everyone can have a happy life but it can be hard sometimes.
I think some people are just happy.
Coffee is on and stay safe
It all depends on what we expect or want from life. Simple things like seeing my garden grow and produce, and doing things that I enjoy are some of the things that makes me happy. The picture of Henry and partner speaks volumes.
It seems there are lots of little things in life that can contribute to us being happy, if only we stop and take the time to appreciate them.
Have a happy weekend! :) xx
CJ, same here! Elizabeth sure helps meeting nice bloggers!

Bertiebo, lucky and happy you! :-)
____
William, that is one point, so you go with Aristoteles!
____
Erika, exactly - don´t expect too much, don´t get disappointed - my Mum called me a pessimist hence, but I think it´s just taking care of yourself...
More than three is great :-) Happy-hugs!

Jeanie, nothing is silly. By golly, I made happy dances finding a parking spot near our place!!!
I once circles 45 minutes and found one so far away I walked 10 minutes on top!
Health and a cat´s purr are priceless (the latter I only get via MS teams, but I get them!).
Oh, swimming - I would love to add this. So long ago!
And no!!! Why would I stop you?!
If you came around the corner with negative things, then I would... but not here, go on!
