On Age

I have another story from Facebook for you:

"Damn, That's Interesting
Generosityhub

Having made the choice to age gracefully, Sarah Jessica Parker faced condemnation for not conforming to modern beauty ideals and standards, including getting Botox injections and large lips.
As if that was not enough, things turned nasty when the paparazzi released photos of Parker having lunch with "Bravo" bigwig Andy Cohen.

Parker had a make-up-free face with her graying hair on full display, which attracted mean comments. She was shamed for her gray hair and called old.

Andy Cohen, who also has a head of gray hair, came to Parker's defense, wondering why he never received criticism for the same and called the comments 'misogynistic.'
'It almost feels as if people don't want us to be perfectly OK with where we are; as if they almost enjoy us being pained by who we are today, whether we choose to age naturally and not look perfect, or whether you do something if that makes you feel better' Parker hit back at her critics.

For many people, this may be the reason to think about their attitude toward aging because it is a natural process and everyone's choice of how they want to look.

I always liked and like her.
An idol in aging.
So far people say I look much younger than I am - that will change some day and I´ll follow her lead.
Or, as FIL says: "You can get old or die."

The beauty industry has really twisted the public's view about how we should look. I wonder if it's always been like that. And of course, a lot of people don't want to look old. But aren't most aging sings a badge of having lived?

I understand why Hollywood stars keep getting surgery etc to look young, so they can get movie parts and keep acting, but often they go too far and look ridiculous, so who is going to hire them then? Much better to age naturally and maybe still get parts playing older persons. So what if you are no longer the main star? And ordinary people with stars in their eyes copy the Hollywood stars when they really shouldn't. There is nothing wrong with getting old. I am old and don't care how I look.

I would not want to give away anything for being "young"!

People have been unrealistic about women aging since beauty became a thing, which I think has been forever. I style my hair, but no makup or dyed hair. I'm not critized, I'm invisible. I'm not sure which is worse.

Yup. It changes for all of us. Enjoy it while you can and then enjoy what you are later. And smile and wear your gurri.

I get angry when I see photos of "beautiful" older women who got that way through plastic surgery, liposuction, Botox, etc, etc. Why is the world do focused on looking young forever? All that cosmetic repair won't change what's happening inside. Give me people who look real! Not a fan of the Dolly Partons of this crazy world. Not to put down her good works or incredible voice, but that quest to look forever young is such a waste.
