We went to donate blood - it was my 20th time and Ingo´s curse hold on - since Novemeber 2006 Ingo tries to donate the 35th time - operations, holidays, sickness or simply being in my town kept him away from it - as also this time. Well, he tries!

I tried to translate the words and could get "the first love.." and then got stuck. My maiden name was Liebenberg! I grew up speaking Afrikaans and can understand Dutch too so here and there I find German words I can translate. My son is now taking German as LOTE (language other than english) at school.
Hey, I'm a blood donor too! Good on ya for doing so, I do enjoy it but last time I was very lethargic so I am considering donating plasma, they take the same amount of blood out, spin it and replace all your red blood cells again. Some people are quizzy afterwards so I will have to take hubby with me the first time to drive me back ...and it will take an hour to donate!

Well, I don´t enjoy the process of donating itself, but it sure feels good to help. And you should see the food we get afterwards in return! Lovely decorated and very yummy!
There was a first-time-donator - over 30 years of age already and he really asked, "the needle will be in all the time?!"

Why did your son chose german? Spanish would be better, that´s spoken in a lot of places (I learned french and am always sad for not having the possibility those days for spanish... french is too close so I can´t learn spanish).
Afrikaans sounds interesting, too!
You are such a nice person for donating blood. I am a big chicken. Every time I have had to have a blood test, they can't find a vein. They jab the needle in both arms without luck. Once the lady said they would take the blood from my neck if they couldn't get it out of my arm! That must have shocked my body because they found a vein!! And it happens each time! So I'm too scared to give blood!!!! Hubby does though - so perhaps I should have another look at it.
Celeste, I guess I know how you feel. I have a friend who gets sick when she just hears someone talking about blood...
Iris I think his school offered German, Italian or Indonesian and he chose German. He do quite well because he can still understand me speaking Afr with them now and then but he can't talk back to me in it, he lost the skill a bit, he was extremely good in Italian in Primary school, i think his brain ticked over that way because he was bilingual so early in his life!
Same here, my donating takes around 7 min. We get nice fruit cake, cheese and crackers, fruit juice and a few more bits and pieces.
I enjoy feeling helpfull. I got a keyring with my blood type once and should get a pen soon I think, a few initiatives they have for donors.

Yes, being raised bilingual is a good thing, I think so, too!
Well and at least german is not only spoken in Germany but also in parts of Switzerland, in Austria, Luxemburg and some parts of Italy...
I still wonder why they don´t offer spanish.
