Pic from July, zoo Braunschweig - raccoon. Or as we call this animal "Waschbär" - it looks a tad like a bear and when getting it´s food in the water it looks like it´s doing some "washing", hence.
Being German I just grew up learning the words - the article How To Name Animals in German just made me laugh in amazement!

We do have a lego-like language, I never realized!
There is a short video on it, too.
And it really made me wonder why we call a guinea pig "Meerschweinchen" - have you come across your own language like that?
Taking it for granted, not thinking about just to find such simple logic behind it all?
And that it must be funny for other natives to learn this?
I´d say German is really pretty easy!
