Hmmmmm!!!! (sorry for the title, lemons have no "T" and what is "T"radiTion without ThaT?)
I always thought, oh, Jamie. Those lemons all the time!!!
But now I tried Jan´s recipe (a bit - à la Jamie: "you can do it this way or do like you think!") - but I tried the lemons.
Ohhhhh, that fresh smell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And the taste!!!
Eat slowly or you´ll go nuts and eat it all!
Officially I´m a lemon-fan here now (but go away with garlic... brrrr).
Really - getting this new "boss" who kicked me out maybe was the best thing that could´ve happened!!
Adriano and I cooked our hearts out (well, he had no idea, but... - I LOVE the BOSE - as if my right ear was intact!)
Adding rice was a good idea, too.
Let me tell you:
For in case Ingo wants to try (he did not) I used that darn stinky Butterschmalz and fried the chicken to TOTAL death.
See. Steak has to bleed my plate a bit but chicken ... the driest it can get.
Put it out of the pan... you could see the rest of the chicken crust.
No more fat added. Jamie said... throw the mushrooms in!
They have moisture and they will get all nutty (as from taste. But who knows what they "think", huh).
They let out their mushroom-water and when you add lemon-juice, from a fresh lemon, oh.my.
Hear them sizzle!
Genarro often ends with "why I am SO good at cooking" and I had him right in my back.
You´ll start drooling!
Other than that I only used salt and pepper and, my....
It came out SO.YUMMY!!!!

After way over 40 years I really enjoy cooking now, it´s plain crazy.
Ingo tried so hard to make me enjoy cooking, but... like my lille Bro... I´m stubborn and needed to find my own way, it seems.

Other... I ordered water-colors, but have no idea what to really do. I think Jeanie is really lucky, she´s not only talented, but...
I cannot even blame "Corinna" - I just have no one who´s into painting or anything arty. No real person showing and pushing...

Ha Ha, you are loving learning to cook and I look into my kitchen but don't feel like cooking. How can you look at your colourful journal pages and say you have no talent??

Fun details of your cooking adventure and art supplies, Iris. I learned to love to cook when I was younger, lost that love, gained it back, lost it and now it comes and goes daily....I think one of the secrets is someone to cook for that loves food. I also cook my chicke to death but want my steak rare - wonder what that says about us?

I've noticed too how Jamie always uses a lemon or a lime. I often just use concentrate but it is not the same. That dish looks good with the mushrooms.

As for having a job (apart from added income) what counts is what you do in your life if you don't have one. If you are productive -- doing cooking or things at home, creating something, helping others -- then that IS a job. Just one that doesn't pay. And it should not be downgraded. Now, if the income is an issue, that's different, but if not, then wait till you have what you want and don't beat yourself up because you don't.
As for WC, thanks for the shout-out. Go to youtube. Google Chris Petrie. He is very good for people just getting started as well as other more experienced artists. Or google online free watercolor lessons -- you'll find lots of sites! Also, Jenna at The Painted Apron usually does recipes but look on her menu under "Fearless Friday" and you'll get some good, easy tutorials!
Everything goes better with lemons. I don't cook chicken but the mushrooms and rice look great.
Iris, you already have the skills, you just have to watch a few videos to learn to use those pencils and watercolors. They sure go well in your calendar pages, which are SO colorful this week.
I don't think I MADE you buy anything. I think you CHOSE to buy this great looking mango and lime drink. Wish we got that here in the states!

Oh that mushroom, chicken and rice dish looks delish! You are becoming quite a good cook! You are following YouTube videos on cooking.
You could also find art lessons on the internet. You have come as far as buying some really nice art materials, now go find some lessons and start practicing. Yes, lots of practice is needed. Make a point of drawing/watercoloring/painting one little thing each day.

The smell of lemons is so refreshing, I make blueberry and lemon cupcakes most weeks and I love th smell too 😁. Those pencils look fabulous and the colours so vibrant, enjoy! Loud YES to the lemon and the mushrooms - years ago when I was still living in Germany a friend told me about freshly squeezed lemon and mushrooms. I tried it out and have never cooked mushrooms without lemon ever since. SO delicious.
You think you have no talent? I have to disagree - when I look at your lovely journal I see a lot of talent. There are a lot of youtube videos - this is how I am still learning and also get a ton of inspiration.
When it comes to a job, I totally agree with Jeanie's words, they are spot on. However, I do remember how I felt back in Germany when I decided to stay home after our daughter was born. It seemed I have to defend my decision all the time - when it actually was no one else's business. Sometimes I wonder whether it is our society that makes us focussing so much on a job for our self-esteem and value. There really is so much more to life.
How exciting to get arty presents! Watercolour is my favourite medium, I'm sure you will love it once you play around a bit with it. I also have a set of polychromos, they are great pencils, very useful on their own or in mixed media - try them over the watercolour! Lemon is always such a wonderful smell and taste. Part of the fun of cooking is adding your own twist on recipes. It's like art. You just play around enough and it will happen. I promise. Talent is something, but practice is even more important. Just let go and play Iris. Have fun. That's what matters. Not how things come out. I hope it was a wonderful T day. hugs-Erika

I know you can do it! Just look up beginning watercolor videos on Youtube. And don't be intimidated by the blank paper. Just take the leap and start. You are an amazing sketcher. You have talent. Don't give up before you start.

I used to love to cook and bake, can, and freeze. But, now that I am older and there are just two of us old people who don't eat as much as we used to, I have lost interest. I take the easy way. The one thing we still like are homemade soups in the Winter months and salads of all kinds in the Summer.
Oh, and we have never liked mushrooms, they did sizzle nicely, though. Love lemons, and anything with lemon. I do make a great lemon chicken and wonderful lemon bars. Love the Henry starts healthy photo, and mango lime drink sounds good. Happy T Day!
