Being German I certainly was there waaaaay too early. It was 4C /39.2F, but at least sunny!
My boss was punctual - it was a bit tricky to recognize each other with masks on, of course.
In that huge complex we are the colored house and it´s very near.
And every turn is left!
Taking the route through the train station - turn left. Siemens... turn left. Stairs... turn left. Safe for idiots like me! 😂
In the office he said we all use our first names and the casual "du". Yuppsi, that makes it all easier!
At first nothing worked (after all I´m an external again) - was I glad I had my kindle with me. Getting paid for reading about the DNA!
AA explained the very, very, very complex system to me - I will be her substitute and boy, we only have 4 weeks. I´m a bit afraid it´s too much! Plus I don´t know the software. Double-complicated.
Meanwhile AT was still trying to get my PC working all the programs needed and happily showed me at least one was working.
Me: ".. but... that´s not me..." - "? Yes, that´s you!" - "But... my name is not Iris Carina!"
Written differently but there is a connection to Siemens in a private way, kinda, LOL.
Aw, well. AA showed me around and after a corner popped up at my right side. I asked her to walk on the other as I can´t hear well anymore with my right ear.
She stopped, big eyes. "Ah, OK, perfect, I hear much better with my left ear!"
Have the same with a friend in Perth!
And when we came back AT had my laptop connected to two huge monitors, this was another "fear" I had, one monitor only.
Now I have three 😁.
And working from home will be it soon, too, which is what AA prefers as well, luckily!
Well, the obligatory:
Monday Ingo made an appointment at the dentist for me, argh!!! "Before you start working", yah, thank you. It was so cold I got out my "happy hat".
Tuesday I baked my head off for stuff to take to work.
Wednesday the new teamleader from Brunel sent me "liebe Grüße", letting me know I likely will start come Monday.
My dentist needed but three minutes and all is OK! But in the evening I got real hard headache, or maybe even migraine, which I had real bad when still studying.
Thursday another day with that pain, I think it was panic, job-wise.
But not that bad that I could not do laundry.

Friday Ingo guided me to Siemens, I´m SO.darn.glad as I would not have went through the train station but around. Also I´d taken a longer, more boring route.
My T calls Braunschweig "Tetris City" cause you can get lost so easily. It´s a 45 minutes walk one way.
Saturday I woke up to click-clack.... Ingo made Apple Sauce! For Potato Pancake!
Sadly you cannot see it, but Homer Simpson is on the apron 😁
So we had a bit of Christmas Market-feeling already! Minus the bad smell in the condo!
And finally (because I do not dare to work with so much hot fat):
Sunday we had to skip the fairy tale. It was Sleeping Beauty, but in a very old version where they looked painfully stupid! So it was but Löwenzahn and Die Maus. Other I was too nervous for anything.
Was yummy, also.

Hi Iris, I am up late here-almost midnight working on the quilt to see how this frame will work out-its so so hard to keep it all tight in the frame as it is so bulky.
sounds like a good first day at work, I get lost all the time too and need to have someone help get to where I am going the first time-but now I have a gps for my car which is perfect for me.

Great to read that your first day was a success, even though you are under the gun to get things finished in four weeks. Sounds like you will be working from home soon and won't have to spend 1 1/2 hours to and from work.

I'm glad that you had a good first day at work. I'm not quite sure I understood correctly - do you work at Siemens? Half of my mother's family used to work with Siemens one time or other. I think it's a good place to work and it seems your fist day was a good one. I remember when I started working with HP I thought I would never understand all of that, but after a few weeks the fog had cleared. You can do this! Loved the Gebrauchsanweisung on the chocolate!

Well done you! You survived the first day! Now comes the challenge to learn a new system in four weeks. I'm sure you can do it, as there will be someone online who can help you in those 4 weeks. Try not to get stressed, because that will cause headaches. You'll be fine. It's all very strange now. It's good that the people are so nice and informal.
That chocolate is amazing! And very unusual. I had to smile at the instructions: remove wrapper and eat....
