Ingo is a smart guy. We have a deal with our provider ages and ages old.
They don´t offer it anymore.
Oh so often we get a bill about some, say 0,35€ per month, or rather the news it´s not enough, they collect the bills :-)
Recently, though, even if WiFi is on the provider goes online and gets some updates (I never need) resulting in a monthly bill over 20,00€!
Not with me.
I payed 24,99€ and got this one - it can not go online.
Dear provider, I, just me myself want to decide when or if I go online over your service!
There is WiFi in the city now, too, so why would I pay more than needed.

Do you think it´s OK to override a customer´s "wish" like that? Simply go online even though it´s set on WiFi?
Addendum: mobile data is turned off. The contract is very old, there was no passage that spoke of agreement for going online, hence they seem to be able to override it as I got a warning that my "free" data is used up soon...
At the store they said I can go to the provider to get internet disabled, but I might need it, so... telephone-phone it is...

It is not possibe to go online without your permission. You could click on it to open by mistake.
Not with this provider as you have a certain amount free.
You have to either turn mobile data off or make sure that all of the various apps don't have automatic access/updates which can be a bit of a pain so perhaps you are safer with your phone only phone.
I did turn mobile data off, yet I got a warning my free data is gone soon, so somehow they do get the darn card online. And that was when I had enough.
I reckon the contract is that old that there was no agreement to online data! Hence they can do it.

I have very limited data which I usually only use if I'm away from Perth, but I get a warning when I'm at 80% of my limit and it tells me that if I go above they will charge me $10 extra. So I can choose to use more if I really need it or just stop.
I don't think it's fair your provider just charges without a warning.
When we got the contract there was not even the idea of going online with your "mobile phone".
January 1st here changed so much, be it health care or mobile providers, it´s a pain as they don´t have to inform you (that´s what my therapist had to learn, too).
It´s a shame what happens.
I like the lion.
My mobile is used only for web surfing in wifi spots, and photography. I used a landline for calls.
We seem to have different szstems!
I mainly use my phone for calls and texts.

Yes, me, too!
I only use my cellphone when I travel and it doesn't have data or online capability. I don't know that I'd use it if it did!
