A Great Role Model

I went to see my doc as my back was killing me again.
Seems it´s got nothing to do with my scoliosis but... weak muscles (test was Tuesday, outcome next week) and sitting wrong.
Amongst other I wanted a corset and something that helps me having my back straight a little less visible for summer. I´d seen the latter for €15 in the catalogue that Ingo gets, "the modern housewife" (yes, Ingo, not me).

We didn´t find anything else, hence - and also because (buy local, right) - I went to a medical supply store in town.

The lady informed me they have these things - in a way better quality and that I can get it on prescription.

Thursday when coming from the doc, I went back.
Got one straight away - it was another nice lady who showed me several models, showed me how to put it on - I kept it on directly, too, a relief!

The price is tad higher, the corset did cost some €200,- (I had to pay €30,-).

I have a great doctor, but it was her who informed me - on her own, without me even having to ask - that I shouldn´t wear it all day long, otherwise the muscles don´t have to work at all no more and the problem becomes bigger even. She explained how to clean, gave me a sample... very nice.

Oh, what you do against a bad back!

But back to the title:

It was a lot of paperwork for the insurance company, I had to sign three times (!) and she needed my insurance card, too.
Whilst writing she stopped shortly, looked up to me, smiled and said, "belated happy Birthday!".
Wow, such an observant woman, that´s a role model!

I remember having my only car accident. The police came, needed to see my ID. They wrote everything down.
No Happy Birthday from them (it was on my birthday - "sadly", otherwise I could celebrate twice a year).

I think I would´ve been like the officers, not seeing that same date, either?
Another lesson learned, it´s so easy to make someone happy by just paying attention a bit.

This for "Tom´s "Signs 2".

Lion of the day:

That´s how my back feels like!

My husband has had cancer! The L12 vertebra is completely broken! But he's still alive! So grateful!
Why am I telling you that ?! He has about 5 corsets. They all help, but in the summer ... you can't wear them! The heat is a real torture to wear a corset ... Perhaps that which is cheap helps you to stay in the right place!
I hope you will be able to relax today!
Hugs! 🤗

Oh, so sorry to hear. This darn cancer.
I have one corset and I will get the cheapy as in expensive, too, on prescription. I´ll let you know how it is, once I have it, if you like.
Well, I´ll rather do some training (and relax later). A nice day to you and hugs.

I want one of those machines where you turn upside down. My back is so bad lately, I don't even stand up straight. At least you have insurance and a bit of relief. Good for you. Pretty decent news, too! Love the lion puzzle.

Glad you found some relief for your back-back aches are no fun at all. when you used to only heat with wood heat-I would usually throw my back out at least once hauling in the firewood-I would live on a heating pad when it was super bad-we have a friend that uses a machine like Elizabeth wants-he says it is the best thing ever to help him love your lion pieces-hugs

ooops that should read when we used to only heat with wood

Iris Flavia said...

Elizabeth, I bought that machine by myself, insurance does not cover that.
It was €99 and I assembled myself (and I trust in my work after being veeeery careful at first ;-)...)

____

Kathy, I have bought heat packs, too. They warn you can get burns, though, now I don´t dare to use them... Ingo assemled the lion already, pic soon to come, hugs

That was so nice of the insurance lady to notice and say happy birthday Iris, makes such a difference. When I get a sore back I do the exercises my physio gave me.. mostly that sorts the problem xox

Iris Flavia said...

Yes, a nice lady, doesn´t take much, actually, right?
Will have a phone appointment with my doc come Tuesday, reckon I need different excersises m(or, buhuuu... additional ones!) xox

I have a friend with scoliosis and she tried one of these. We had quite a laugh trying to figure out how to put it on!

The corset looks very effective -- and I think it makes sense -- not wearing it all day every day so you can be conscious of training your own muscles. I'm sure it helps your back. I'm glad it worked out and even though a little more costly, not so much as it could be and probably better.

Yes, little details like a belated birthday greeting can mean a lot.

Iris Flavia said...

Jackie, mine is easy! Mit the "summer"-one might be tricky (I´m still waiting for it).

____

Jeanie, reckon more training is due anyways ;-)
I hope I learn from that lady to closer at details!

My physio usually recommends I do exercises and he says to use my stationary bike, that is the best there is for back pain. But of course I hardly use it!
I recently bought a cheap thing to use to keep my back straight but it's too bulky and I can't wear it with summer clothes. I'll have to try it out in winter to see if it helps to keep my back straight.
So nice of the lady to remark on your birthday Iris :)

Iris Flavia said...

Sami, your doctor cannot prescribe a high quality one? I mean... you have long, hot summers, I expected you have "light" corsetts much more than we do!
Yes, nice lady :-)

When you said corset I was horrified as I was thinking of the piece of lingerie that women in the 1700s-1900s wore. They are horrible as they push all your organs out of their proper position. So glad to see you got a back brace. Along with massage and your tilt board, I hope you feel better. And wasn't it nice of the saleswoman to notice it was your birthday. Alles gutte zum Geburtstag. 💐Verspätet 😊

LOL, OMG, no, a medical one it sure is!! :-)
Danke für die Wünsche! :-)

proper posture is so important, something that I don't have. Fortunately after all of these years, my back has rarely been a problem. Good luck to you Iris.

Iris Flavia said...

Thank you, Tom, I hope mine is OK soon, too.

Happy belated Birthday Iris, so sorry I missed your day! Hope the corset along with the exercises will alleviate your back problems. Here, there are also lots of tv ads to help with back problems, like the tilt board you showed. I think a good ergonomical chair is also important to prevent back issues. Enjoy your week!

Iris Flavia said...

Alexandria, wow, you have ads for that, awesome! Here just ads for stuff to warm your back...
Yes, I agree with that chair. But. I have my old IKEA Emil wooden chair and I just cannot let go of "him", poor fella.
I´d rather train my muscles (I reckon, so far! ;-)...)
A great week to you!

Hopefully it helps.

Perhaps you need more or better exercises to help your back. I've heard swimming helps, can you swim? Is there a swimming pool nearby? Perhaps in a gym? although gyms are expensive, maybe you don't have to join one, just pay a small fee to use the pool.

Iris Flavia said...

William, yes.

River :-)
Certainly I can swim! You learn that at an early age here. But we have just real icky indoor places, nothing for me. Just not clean enough for my liking.
But I hope my doc can recommend some excercises and then there is always youtube.

I hope all these things help. There is nothing worse than back pain, but I don't have to tell you that I am sure. Hugs-Erika

Iris Flavia said...

Oh!!! Thanks for the reminder, I nearly forgot to take my "lunch" medication! Must mean it all helps a bit, no? Hugs, Iris

My husband and daughter both have chronic back pain....I hate that for them...I hope your remedies help you...we used to have one of those hang upside down things.

Iris Flavia said...

I´m all better now, but reckon more training is on the way... "Used to" sounds like it didn´t help then, how sad!
