On Cooking Your Neighbour

Yesterday I cooked... not my neighbour, just some lean minced beef.
Had fresh parsley, an egg (it BROKE!!!), breadcrumbs, salt, pepper.
Little pieces of mozzarella and gouda.
Made litlle meatballs. In oil (no official recipe).
Which Ingo cannot have, the hot oil.

Cleaned the pan for Ingo to make his half-half meatballs in butter (brrrr, the smell makes me gag).
Potatoes were in water, kohlrabi waiting in the microwave.

And then I got lost!!! Again!!!

Well, actually, I just wanted to get out and our sweet Mr H wanted to get in.
The one who gave Ingo his wife´s sewing machine, me the chives.... we talked.
Half the house passed by and I thought, "uh-oh! Ingo´ll be mad! He´ll be done cooking and I´m still here, chatting with our neighbour!"

More than half an hour later... Ingo.
Meanwhile Mr H and I´d chatted about him being able to meet his wife in the nursery home again, about cooking and...oh, cooking. Yes, and ... cooking.

We´re so alike, him and I! We´re just some 40 years apart, that´s nothing, right.
He understands I gag on the smell of Ingo´s warm butter-thingy, too!!!

He went upstairs, we had dinner and I told Ingo the good news of meeting the wife again!

Ingo was so happy, too!
And I said, why not go upstairs and bring a bottle of the new Mathilde beer over (blog post to come).

Guess who was gone for like forever? :-)

Meanwhile I browsed through good ole FB and Jamie Oliver came along with this:

Hmmm. Sounds yum!
At the end he showed the source and I thought, "wait, I have this!".

Got it out - one big bookmark on the top, one at the bottom. (and many more small ones inbetween).

Guess.
I went over to Ingo and said, it´s scary!!!
I kid you not: Choose bottom and there it was!

Creepy.
Mr H said his wife did the cooking.
I said, "Hubby does, too, but TV-cook Jamie Oliver taught me how to do it, too!"

Him: "Yes, I watched one, too, hmmm...."

Me... "Tim Mälzer?"
Him: "Yupp!!!"

We didn´t cook our neighbour, but, wee, it was so nice to chat and see him happy again (he told me he misses his wife so much he does not want to live no more).

To cooking, chefs and talking, to good neighbours! I´ll bug you with another post right here soon.
So much to say when Corinna bugs you that much, huh?

Henry...

Little siblings say hi!

So good that you chat to your lonely neighbour. My husband chats to our lonely neighbour and I know that when he goes over there it will be ages before he comes back.

LOL I am with Ingo on your meatballs - I much prefer butter to oil when it comes to frying. Funny how we are all so different :)

Joan Elizabeth, yes, it´s important, one time we might be lonely, too. But also before his wife went to the nursing home we did chat - it was just happier times :-)

Margaret, Ingo cannot have anything in hot oil as his pancreas is nearly gone due to bad doctors... Complicated times food- and health wise since 2008...

...a good conversation with a dear neighbor is a good thing. Take the time.

That's so nice that you and then Ingo chatted with your neighbour, he must feel so lonely without his wife. Old age and loneliness sure is a killer!
Jamie Oliver sure has some simple and nice recipes. There's always one of his programs on tv.

Tom, we always do.

Sami, yes, loneliness is killer.
We both ... all four of us had weekend relationships, not easy. But his wife will never come back, a horrible thought.

Haha, Jamie occasionally here, too. Translated to German :-(

Can you believe I have been reading that very same book also. I was trying to find a recipe using kale or cavolo nero, something that would tempt P into eating more greens 💚 check page 51.. can you try and imagine what P said to that 😀😀😀 my son apparently makes it for his family, P still not interested 😉 So nice that you are getting closer to your neighbour, good for him and good for you 💙

It is nice to see people again, as long as we can keep far enough apart. That's just wonderful that he can see his wife again. What joy that must be. I haven't looked at a Jamie book for awhile. Thanks for the reminder -- that looks good!

Jeanie, yes. He was a little bit... happier. But told Ingo later the staff handle his wife and all the others badly.
