When You (Think You) Feel Good
I thought I feel good. "OK", at least (see, I even tried to get "arty").
The worst summer in so many ways (no job, shi##y weather, Corinna and a stressed Hubby, well...).
Went for groceries by myself, to a real butcher and either I am dumb to the brim or the meat for goulash was crap.
1 1/2 hours...
I manage the butter-thing now, no oil. No gagging, I take the icky smell.
Ingo cannot have hot oil.
Pepper, carrots, mushrooms, red wine, the first three all fresh.
Salt, pepper, smoked paprika, Mustard (last one fellow blogger-hint), took me way over an hour.
The noodles he likes, not me.
Shi##y.
He could´ve said, "eww, but at least you tried" - he said nothing.
No matter how hard I try it´s never good enough.
Today?
Chicken.
I will try. With capers.
Henry. Asleep.
I wonder. Was it my fault or was the meat itself not of good quality?
Does not matter.
I am Pippi Longstocking now... (haha, I was, in 2nd grade, for carnival).
Can´t even remember where I found the paper, but it sure tells me to never give up.
By accident, and I do swear, the bird took the color blue.
Sometimes life is scary. To P: I really never saw the blue bird. I wonder if it was there or but a joke or even a test if I am an honest person...
If... when (??) we come back, will he tell me?
A question: When you left a comment, do you really go back and check for an answer, a re-action?
I admit... I hardly do.
So. If you are a bit like me, I answer here on some - or is that a no-go?
M is married, happily (I reckon), has kids and did include me twice in a yearly Christmas-letter he sent as word-document (hello?!!), adressed to all, unpersonalised.
Yearly, all,... he is a doctor and uses word. To "all". I decided, after thinking it through, to not make contact.
I love to make you chuckle :-)
And. oh. If there is an afterlife I will regret deeply I never had a cat. But a German shepherd. A girl who died painfully of cancer as I was too young to ask my Mum to put the dog to sleep. Her name was Inka, she died in pain.
She was kept in the garage in her last weeks, where also my bike was. She was that aggressive, due to the pain, I walked on foot to school, I did not dare to go in there.
I am sorry, I did not know any better! I was too young and I never wanted to have "you", I´m a cat person.
I hope my sweet gerbil will be there when I go...
She will make her way on my shoulder and tell me in my ear how it´s like (because she knew what my ear is!!! As unhairy as it is (thankfully). And yes. Cat-person with no cat had a mouse...).
Good thought there might be someone when you go forever!
P.S.!! A cat is on the way, a huge one, for my (unhairy) ear.

You did not specify what kind of meat did you buy? Beef, pig ...?!
And you put mustard in goulash? No way! That's the wrong recipe! Anyway ... I still don't understand what went wrong?
I hate capers ... Bleach! Bad taste …
And where is Henry? Is he still asleep?
If you're Pippi Longstocking ... where have your tails gone? And the red hair ...?!
Here is sunny today but the temperatures are still on the low side! No warm summer this year! Sigh!
A little BIG hug for my favorite girl!
xoxo
P.S No blog post today ... I really don't feel like writing!
I bought beef and it was like leather :-( The taste of mustard was good advice, though, yummy! As was the rest, just not the darn, expensive meat.
Caper I thought as kid were animals, but they are not, huhu, big surprise, my poor Granma never was able to convince me!
This is Jan´s receipe with the capers, I let go of the garlic, though and it´s chicken breast.
My hair, yes, that went along with my ear. I told the doc I was allergic to cortisone, I was right. Ear won´t come back, hopefully the hair at least!
Yes, sunny but COLD! (soryy, but isn´t it for crying out LOUD?!)...
A little BIG hug to my China-lady xoxo (you are my only one, no one trusts me in china...), hope you feel like writing again soon!
I think you fried the meat too long ...
This meat is very difficult to process (at least I never managed to grill a good steak!) I don't like the red meat on my plate!
Enjoy your meal with the capers ... Exactly! They are like little furry animals ... I get goosebumps from …
And listen very carefully young lady, I am not Chinese!
I think you're looking for a fight with me … LOL
xoxo
It would probably work much better with a less expensive cut of beef - fatty tougher meat becomes meltingly tender through the moist slow cooking process. I use chuck steak, brown it quickly in the pan then slow cook in the oven or in a covered pan on the stovetop after that.
I do sometimes go back to read replies to comments but not always. I still make replies but don't really mind if people don't read them.
Ella, you have loads and loads of beautiful China, sweet lady! A bad combo with a Hathi! ;-)
Nononono. No fur, oh. Wait!!! Who knows, the capers are not "young" anymore! HELP. I´m afraid to open the glass now!
Not a fan of "cow", either, the receipe said 60-90 minutes.
???
A fight? With fine China? Gues who would win a stomp... uh... oh.... Trump is in the way, too! ;-)
Oh, my goodness. OH! I mean. The elephant one´s.
Thin ice. And china.

Joan Elizabeth, hmmm. Next goulash will be Ingo´s and I´ll watch (and taste!).
The oven is my huge enemy, so.... noooo.....
Comments sometimes make one´s day (mine, at least) and I try to respect that, but it´s good to learn there are "sometimes-people" like me!
It had to be the meat.
...Iris, I think that you are too hard on yourself!!!!!!!!
The dog story of Inka made me sad. It is tough when they get sick. Or old. And they give us so much. Although they can demand a lot too. Hope it was a good weekend hugs Erika
I sometimes go back to see if there is an answer to a comment, depending on whose blog it is. Maybe the meat just needed longer cooking to be more tender (best at a low temperature, which can take 3-4 hours). Whenever I try a new recipe I note it down and add comments on how to improve it next time, until finally I have a recipe that cooks exactly how we like it. Keep experimenting, and never give up! :)
William, at least you´d gotten wine! Cheap one, though, as I don´t drink it...
____
Tom, aw, well. Thank you. Guess being "the older one" you are raised like that?
The meat was awful, the rest was yum!
____
Erika, yes. I don´t want to imagine what Inka went through. All the pain. The lonely nights. In the garage.
I guess if she really is there on my last journey she will not exactly love me. Poor girl. To knowing better, right, hugs!
When I get beef at the grocery store, sometimes it tastes good and sometimes it tastes awful, even when it's the exact same type of beef. So it's not your fault.
I think covid-19 has created an overhanging cloud of stress on many of us, even when we're not thinking about it. And it has created a sense of worry and insecurity about the future. Here in the US, the prices of many things have gone up due to covid-19, yet our paycheck remains the same, which means we can now afford less things, and have to hope we can still afford to pay our essential bills.
Perhaps those things are weighing on Ingo.
When I leave a comment, I don't go back to check if there is a reply. I hope the person will leave a reply back on my blog, so that I see it, but I realize not everyone does that.
I'm sorry to hear your dog Inka died painfully of cancer. She was a beautiful dog. Aggression from an animal when it's in pain is their natural instinct. When I brought my cat home after his surgery, he was very hostile toward me when I tried to re-adjust his Elizabethan Collar, because he was in pain and didn't want to be touched, despite the pain medicine in him. Yet he also let me pet him after that, but he didn't purr. (That's another natural instinct / reaction from a cat that is in physical distress: it doesn't purr.)
Anne, thank you, maybe the meat really was icky.
Yes. Job-wise we all drive nuts these days! I have to re-start at age 48!!! How horrible is that?
My "worst enemy" has my job, too, and people complain about him, I could "laugh".
Yes. I knew why Inka was so aggressive and now that you made me think about it.
Post to come... animals are not dumb, sometimes "we" are.
I understand your concern over your dog. That is a very sad story. The dog deserved better, but some people won't let go or don't have the money to pay to have the animal put down. And it's sad you never wanted Inka. I wish some day you and your husband can get a cat. I know it would make you happy.
Keep trying in the kitchen. Capers with chicken sounds good.
Sorry to hear that the meat didn't meet your standards for some reason. I gave us beef and prok years ago. I mainly eat fish and chicken these days. I felt bad for your dog dying alone, I don't like the feeling of any living creature dying alone, it scares me. As for reading comments, I don't go back to see if someone comments. If I know the person replies with a comment, I check off the box that sends the comment to my email and that's how I read your comments back. Raining here!
Have a fun packed evening, Iris!
Good question about comments. I rarely do but part of that is because I reply directly to people so I don't think about people replying back to me on the blog.
I think we all have epic kitchen fails. I know I have and do and will! Just keep at it!
This Covid would be a lot harder with out social media. Never know about papers.
I do go back and read the answers. Sometimes, I take longer like a week but I do as often as possible, go back and read. I find it’s easier on pages that offer a reply area. Sorry the meat was no good. Sometimes, it’s not a good dish but we can still learn from it for the next time. Hope your gerbil is there waiting. Hugs.
Elizabeth, yes, it is really sad I never wanted Inka in the first place.
Someday, somaday, a cat...
____
gigi, it was sour. Are capers sour per se?!
But the chicken was heaven! :-)
____
Bill, I made chicken yesterday - YUM!
Yes, dying alone must be awful. My Brother took care it did not happen to any our parents (I lived in Braunschweig already).
Poor Inka, though. Over 30 years later I still feel responsible.
Sunny here. But. Surprise, still YOUR weather, enjoy! If you have the same. ;-)
____
Jeanie, yes, epic is the correct word. You could´ve eaten a shoe...
____
Dora, I agree!
____
Thank you, Happy Whisk, especially for the latter. Maybe she will be there, oh, what will she tell. I never understood but said, "hmm-hmm, oh, yes!". Did she understand I at least tried? Must be - she never gave up.
Next time ask what type of meat to buy, usually even the butcher will give advice if Ingo won't. If I am making a casserole that needs long and slow cooking I will buy chuck steak, I don't know what that would be in the German equivalent.
I used to always go back and look for replies to my comments, but now I don't always, it just takes too much time.
I think the meat was just crap? Ingo always buys that, also.
At least my chicken the next day was yummy :-)
Never ever give up!
