When I lost my job I was signed sick with Burn Out for a year. After a year I had to fully pay my health-insurance myself and then - because we own the place we live in I got no more money from the state.
This is Germany. Everybody´s welcome. No need to learn the language, either.
We have people here living since 20+ years and still don´t.
Will I get money when I retire? Yes. And likely I´ll have to work to make a living.
That is the politicians plan right now.
Why I don´t leave?
Where to??? Where to. The world has gone crazy. Unfair, everywhere.

Here in Australia many, many families live on government benefits and it goes down through generations. People can't get work for whatever reason so they stay home and their children often the same and so it goes...probably the same in many countries. My son has a full time job, but his partner is in a wheelchair and cannot work, so she gets benefits but not the full amount because he is working and he earns too much for them to qualify for public housing so they struggle along paying far too much in rent with five children to feed. It's a vicious cycle, but my son is like me, as long as he is able, he WILL work. All my kids are like that. Good strong work ethic.

Wow! I thought in Australia... a friend of mine is a nurse near Perth, she lost her job and told me she got benefits for two weeks only?!
5 children, a wheelchair-bound job and not qualified to get help??? Even worse or as alike as here. Where is fairness?
My parents were kinda "well".. I earned my own pocket money delivering newspapers and ads! And despite a dog nearly got my butt I am still here ;-) To honest, hard work!

I'm not sure any spot is perfect. We'd leave the US in a minute but for a few things -- no one wants us (we're too old) and doing so would mean leaving the grands, which I think we'd hate. But our country has become so terrible and worse to come, we truly don't know what to do.
Happy birthday to your brother. Will you see him (Or is that a silly question to ask after reading some of your previous posts.) What is the world coming too? That guy who lives off other's taxes is someone who should be given a job and given nothing to live on. It's one thing if he isn't able to work like he's a paraplegic. I agree with Jeanie's comment too, because our president has big time dementia or at least is delusional. Who slaps tariff's on a country just because they run an ad he doesn't like? There are people all over the world taking advantage to the system while others, who need it get nothing. Now, in the US things are changing fast with the "thing" in the white house and it is only good for him. I don't know why people don't see what is happening. Happy birthday to your brother.

Same thing here, Iris. Lots of "artists"---living on the draw. Some get disability checks but still work for cash. If they get caught, they have to repay or go to jail, but rarely does anyone get caught.
