On Dudelsack And Life

Me, working for cgs at Volkswagen.
New colleague, T (aka "my T").
Every time I went into his 4-men-office he, in a hectically sec, hid his left hand under the table.

Odd.

If he´d did this slowly I wouldn´d even noticed.

Summer. 5th floor, south, huge windows, no aircon.
We luckily could wear what we wanted.
"Armless" top, I choose, hence. Not the flippy "spaghetti-top", of course, but you could see my shoulder.

And T stared. And stared. And kept staring.
I was like, "in a sec I give you something to stare at!!!"

He stared at my  - back then still rather bad looking scars.
One the whole length up my right arm  - I still can bite by butt I did not allow Ingo to take a pic when it was really fresh.. like a Cordon Bleu that needs to go into the pan! 🤣

The other  - really ugly one - on my shoulder, and it has a small companion to the side.
Not to mention the now healed one on my hip, where they took a piece of bone for my arm... docs are amazing!!!

Heck, I didn´t care.

What does this show???
It shows I survived an accident and live a happy life!!!
I cannot do everything (I miss Badminton and such, but, alas).

T... slowly moved his left hand from the table.
Index- and middle-finger missed two parts.

Me (too loud): "THAT´S IT????" (more silent) "you can still dig in your nose!!!"

We were friends ever after.
His nasty divorce (sad story, not his fault), his new girlfriend... oh, I cry writing this... her brain was fit. She could move but one eye... over a way too long time cancer too slowly killed her. T and I were the only ones left caring.
And when one day I got no response... nor the second... I knew S was gone. Finally.

Ever since - I sure did not leave him like that - we WhatsApp every day. And if I forget he calls me cause he knows Ingo is in a bad health condition per se.

Ingo played ... ummm. no. Ingo tried to play the bagpipes.
What a pain!!!!! Arghhh!!!!

T often told me he loves that music, there is a band nearby, he visits their concerts, so I asked, "T, ... pretty, pretty please.... don´t you want to have Ingo´s bagpipe? He drives me NUTS!!!"

T happily agreed.

T finally left S´s house (he still has regular contact to her son, who owns it now) and invited us to his new apartment.

By golly! He knows Ingo is sick and he knows how much I eat... he made food for a gazillion of peeps (we didn´t need to buy food for the weekend).

And there it sat.
Neatly decorated.
The bagpipe.

I casually asked (I didn´t want to hear!!!!) how´s it going?

T - the man who hid his hand! - laughed.

"I totally forgot!!! With the two missing fingers I cannot play!!!"

I laughed my head off!
Just so you know.. he has a new girlfriend, they live together a very happy life.

Have you accompanied someone through such ups and downs?
Right now they´re holidaying in... on??? Mallorca. Enjoying a late summer.

I love bagpipe music. Himself who has some Scot ancestry does not. 😺 Bittersweet story of how you and T became friends. 💙

I love the bagpipes. I often go to spend some days in Scotland (rugby, parkrun and tourism) and that instrument is part of the landscape.
I have big scars too: one on the leg and one on the shoulder. Fractures.
We don't give up.
All the best.

This post really tugged at my heart. Life, in all its pain and sweetness. My best to you all. You're good people, as we say over here.

Good friends are hard to find. After a while bagpipes can get on my nerves. I like them but not for hours.

I love these stories. There is always the hope of happiness in the future, whatever pain and suffering we are called on to go through. Mxx

I like bagpipes too. A few years ago in a house near my home was someone just learning to play and it was TERRIBLE, as it always is in the beginning. I no longer hear, perhaps he moved away.
I don't remember why you are scarred, you probably said a long time ago and I forgot.

Lovely drawing of the bagpipes.

Lots of ups and downs with you and T. So glad he is finally happy.

Tom... if one can play...

____

CJ, Ingo ... it was but bad noise!
Yes, we had our fights together, T and I.

____

Black Knight... this instrument - if played well!!! - might be fun.
I was in pain, LOL.
We do never give up. Scars are signs of life!

____

William, what to say...

____

RedPat, yes, he T made it!

____

Sue, to good people - I might add an "us", right? :-)

____

Bill, yes to the first and a big no to the last. Ingo really had no talent for this, it was a pain! And he would not give up!
Wonder I didn´t get thank-you-notes from the neighbors! ;-)

____

Margaret, yes. I hope no one is ever left alone! xx

____

River. Yes. TERRIBLE. And LOUD!!!
I fell and ended up in a wrong / bad hospital. No one believed in my pain, all good now. No, I think I never told as it is loooong ago!

Elizabeth!!! It took me 5 minutes to sketch that! Ii hate the bagpipes and was not willing to put time into this!
Yes, T is having hopefully fun and warm weather right now!
