My Braunschweig

Oh, the fourth, for us second, MERIAN on Braunschweig really is superb.

I have to admit, though I add nothing to this city I beam with pride.

Journalist Till Raether used to live in so-called "A-cities", he found out when he read there are "B-cities" like Braunschweig - he lives here now.
And loves it.

And, hahaha, I really had to laugh when he describes when coming home it feels like being in The Truman Show, like everything is made just to suit you!

And how I was being teased so cleverly by Grace and her hubs!

Like... the author went to visit the tower of our city hall, it´s open from 09-03.
It wasn´t tourist-like, he was the only one visiting and was guided.

On a Tuesday morning he went to Klosterkirche Riddagshausen. The sexton came over to turn off the light so he can see how beautifully the sunlight gets in.

In the middle of the week again he was the only one, asking where the tour takes place and got as answer, here and the two of us are the tour :-).
He learned the darn Nazis wanted to turn Henry the Lion into in arian symbol. They opened the sarcophagus and saw Henry was smaller than his wife Mathilda and must´ve had black hair - oh, lucky dude, they lost interest!

He also mentions the darn "castle" and helped me getting over the loss of the park for it. He says only a city as pragmatic as Braunschweig can say, we need it to be a shopping mall to afford it, so it will be, no "important" fussing around.
Only a city like Braunschweig can say we need eight years to renovate an important museum like the Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum.

He also mentions that our Brunonia is the biggest of Europe (we still haven´t visited!).
The first soccer-game on German ground was played here (gahhh...), we have the exact time for Europe...

He says Braunschweig is known to be rather "repellent", but that´s not true.
He says, take a city map and peeps will come for help.

Haha. I remember very early 2002 I was stopping my Mum´s car (number-plate starting with "GS" for "Goslar"), grabbing the map.
And before I could have a closer look someone knocked at the window to offer help :-)
I "knew" Braunschweig from visiting friends, but this was so fab I "knew" I´ll get a job here, I just had to (and I did).

Braunschweig, I love you, you got the fourth MERIAN for a reason!
