Times Are A Changing

This was 1978 (I guess?), I was hence 6 years old, maybe 5.
Not to school yet, I could´t really read and I didn´t wear glasses, those are fake ones.

Oh, just look at those chairs in the background!!!

The 70´s sure were so special, so creative, crazy and wonderful.
I had a very safe childhood.

My only sorrow was that my parents both worked longer than full-time and I spent a lot of boring time in their shop until our Granma moved to us when Bro was due.
It probably wasn´t what parents did back then, take time for their kid(s).

I can´t remember they read books before sleeping, it was a quick good-night-kiss and that was that.

Times have changed.
Bro called the other day and the Big Niece wanted to talk to me, too, how cute is that?

On her Birthday they were on holidays, hence I haven´t seen her yet, busy times at Bro´s place.

She is six years old now, feels too young for school yet...

She´s so mature!
Her speech is very well, she´s able to tell me anything she wants.

All her friends but two left for school, but there are new kids, very, very young ones, they´re so "sweet".

She´s doing all kinds of sport, playing the flute, "free-time" only on the weekends!
I said, hey, that´s nearly an adult-life you´re leading! - she giggled and said, no, that´ll start with school then.
WHAT?!

I asked when they will be ready to move to the house they´d bought.
She told me exactly how far they´ve come, that it´ll cost a lot of money and that she´s willing to give her piggybank if needed.

Oh, my.
I for sure had no idea of money at that age.
It was just there.

It makes me proud, gives me the highest respect and makes me sad at the same time.

In the 70´s a kid was a kid.

Seems now they´re just very young adults, huh?

From what I see around me, kids nowadays are totally different from my time and yours...they seem so much more mature, more technologically advanced, they have their wants and wishes...we just accepted what our parents told us, and that was that! But, on the other hand, parents are different too - they are more involved with the kids to start with, teach them things I didn't know until much later.
My parents didn't read to us either, I don't think they had much time to read for themselves either, they both worked too.

Love those round dining room chairs, they would probably be worth a lot of money now!

Yes that´s true, parents have changed a lot, too!

Those chairs.... sadly they were put up on the attic. They´re gone for good, very, very sadly.

You are so right Iris. I think my parents were the same as most of that generation, it could be that they didn't have the option, they had to work longer hours. When Dave and Aimee were growing up Pat and I spent so much time joining in, and in Pat's case coaching cricket, basketball etc and maybe even these days it's even more so 😊 where will it all end :)

Grace, yes, you´re like my Bro then, that´s good! :-)

Revrunner, that or fall from skates and skateboards at high speed without any protection on knees/elbows/head! We survived, huh? :-)
