It´s cold - and I long for warmth.

At some touri-info I saw this on a postcard:

The sign, in case you cannot read it - taken with a real film back then, it says when you leave Windorah:
"WARNING
The roads on which you are about to travel are extremely isolated and subject to flooding and for your protection you are advised to:
(1) Ensure that you are carrying sufficient quantities of food, water and petrol for your journey. You require one gallon of water per person per day.
(2) Call the Windorah Police Station and other Police Stations on your route and advise them of your progress and plans.
(3) In the event of a mishap REMAIN WITH YOUR VEHICLE and if you have followed (2) above, assistance should be with you in a short time."
We did visit the police station... cause a water pipe was broken and drinking water was leaking into the desert.
A young boy, maybe 12 (!!!), on a motorbike passed us by - we learned it was the police officer´s son and said police officer just left to the next town and will be back in three days. "But, yah, thank you - we´ll take care of the leak!"

When we arrived first I needed to go. You DO drink A LOT of water.
See. Windorah has a population of around 100 - 60 directly there, 40 a bit outside, yet they have, according to Wiki, the Windorah State School.
And... you can guess I was a tad.. puzzled to find 8 public toilets!!!
More to come, I do have a reasonable explanation for the 8 toilets.
And, btw... it was my turn to fill up the car.
"Cash or credit card?", the man asked.
"Credit card, please."
He turned the terminal to me and said, "do it yourself, I´m blind."
Certainly I bet he´d heard how much I filled in and what I typed, but this is a SIGN of trust, huh.

Windorah...might be 40-50C / 104-122F right now. Hmmmm, would I love to be there!

A gallon of water per person per day, might not leave room in the car for much else. I don't like to be so hot as it is in Windorah. I didn't mind when I was younger, but not now.
It was enough space to also sleep in the car :-)
We put everything but the water to the front for the night and were fine. Oh. We were young! And I am small.
The heat I still love.
I like the no crowded places to enjoy the landscape, the silence (I cannot stand the noise), the nature, the animals but I am too old now "to live and adventure" in Windorah.
When I was in the Navy we had to spent long hours in unknown places into the sea or in the country as training but it happened 40 years ago!

Wow, what an unusual sign, Iris. Love the idea you actually went there and that you really stopped by the police station to let them know a pipe had broken. Most people wouldn't care or take time to notify anyone.
Iris! Our signs are very alike this week! Don’t be a fool is the best caption though, so you win ! (If this was a competition, which it is not of course.). We have driven many roads that have similar warning signs to the one you show , especially in the western mountainous part of the USA. But it would not be so warm there right now. (It is warm here in flatland Florida (on the SE coast)

Windorah is HOT. I'll stay in Hawaii where the temperature is in the 60s and 70s during the winter.

And even though they are those signs, some people still stray from their cars, get lots and don't get found :(

I would take this warning seriously. Cell phones seldom work in vast open spaces. Sounds like you had a good adventure.
You didn't typed it in! It was in 1995, that was an old fashioned Card-Reader with a slide mechanism. And yes, we wondered about the loos ;-) After all, it make sense!
I think that is a bit too hot for me. It is snowing here now.

That's definitely scenery we don't see here, sand but on a beach not in a desert.
Things are bad here now. I had to cancel going to a Christmas party this weekend. I think Corinna has worn us all down, at at least you and me both!
