Kids Today!

Kids today... they drink, gamble, hang around in dark, narrow lanes... they take pics with Kalle, or, as you call Braunschweig mathematician and physicist Carl Friedrich Gauß!

Can you imagine how my heart jumped for joy seeing this?
There is hope!!!

(See Kalle to the left)

(On bike to the right, Kalle is left)

I am officially old, noticing this with pride... and I love it!

Now, a  mathematician, huh?
Henry 🩁 picks up the game!

Here´s (sadly a very little) hint:

Yes, a very old shot!

Addendum! Somehow I guessed "people" know Gauß or Gauss, but reckon I live behind my own lille rock!

Gauss - the link above  is in English gives much more away, here just a short introduction:.

He is considered "the greatest mathematician since antiquity" which is interesting, as his mother was illiterate, he came from a poor family. When he "was barely three years old he corrected a math error his father made; and when he was seven, he confidently solved an arithmetic series problem (commonly said to be 1 + 2 + 3 + ... + 98 + 99 + 100) faster than anyone else in his class of 100 students." If interested you can read more here.

Maybe you also know the Gaussian filter.

Absolute Zero (Or Such)

(In February already) by chance I saw another hint to Carl Friedrich Gauss´s achievements.

This street is named after him cause...

... right on this site in 1803 he defined Absolute Zero for "his" coordinate system or conformal projection.

Must be cool (?) to live right there (if you´re a geek, LOL):

This man sure was a genius in more than one way.

Spot On

Since a couple of days Gauß is illuminated, very nice (it´s just around the corner, on my way to work, too).

After all most people admire him.

I kid you not, I overheard two "cool" teens yesterday.
Boy 1: This is "Bridge Gauß"
Boy 2: Darn Gauß...
Boy 1: No darn Gauß! He was a very intelligent man, and a great mathematician!!

I had to grin big :-)

Well, but he was, right?

To the sublime Thinker
who unveiled the most secret mysteries
of the Science of numbers and space
who has established the laws of heavenly and earthly
natural phenomena
and has made it serviceable to the good of mankind
To the
saecular celebration of his birthday
in his father's City Brunswick
Dedicated by the Grateful posterity

So. This was the last day of work 2017.
For H it was already Wednesday, I learned yesterday. He got terminated. Merry Christmas (couldn´t our new boss wait till Christmas is over and send it via mail before the end of the year?)...
Anyways, the company doesn´t give money - from which part´d go to the state - but days off between Christmas and New Year - and that´s still a good thing, right.

To a new start, work-wise. SPOT ON to all of us! :-)

Bruno Is Back

I have to admit I do like to read the weekend-ads.
And from time to time also fall for something.

So, yesterday I walked over 3 km one way to get...

Sadly it doesn´t smell of roast apple, lets see how the taste of this punch/glogg is.
Let´s hope it´s good. I bought three bottles and one is meant to be a pressie.
I also got this, just couldn´t resist, yes, another clock!

Gee, the way back was hard as I had no backpack, just 2 bags.
I had to stop now and then cause my arms sure did hurt.
Took the cam and... this is truly Germany :-(

A big "garden" and you´re not allowed to play on it.

And by chance I also found Carl Friedrich Gauss´s home:

No, I didn´t want to move that ugly container...

The title?

Bruno waits to get assembled again to welcome everybody to the xmas-market :-)

They Go South

Ingo spotted him first, our good ole Carl Friedrich Gauss.

Weee, I really could like a day full of sunshine again, it looks like this since days:

Quite sad compared to this view, no?

I have to admit, though, on my way home from BraWo-Park on my Wednesday off I went without a brolly on purpose.
It was 8C, quite warm, and I so enjoyed the light rain on my face.
I didn´t see much (like the likely dumb looks I might´ve gotten), but it felt sooo good.

So. All you can do is go out, enjoy anyways and use the "make me nice"-filter, watching others seek for warmer places.

We´ll follow soon, too :-)
Alas, the long journey, something I´m really not looking forward to!
Or flying, for that matter.

Let´s Move

Golden October for a change. Nice weather for the 2,5km walk to our doc in the easterly ring area where I used to live, our good ole Gauss is held in honour everywhere :-)

When I came to Braunschweig in 2002 I didn´t know if I´d keep the job, so I went into flat-sharing.

The two windows in the middle, first floor were mine.

The big window to the left had various mates, the last one finally made me move out, I still have to thank her...

To the right, M. Dr. of agriculture, single, ever since, he still lives there, we met him when we went to our old bakery a while ago:

They call Ingo still Mr. K. But since I live low carb I don´t go there anymore.

I moved on to...

Never in my life will I live in a house with an access balcony again.
Isn´t funny when you got a dement and angry lady living next to you...
My then-teamleader TI once picked me up and when I turned on the lights he said it looked like a christmas tree :-)

Ingo´s apartment flooded again, he moved in with me, 34 m² isn´t that much and hence we finally moved again, still easterly ring area, it was fun walking there:

This belongs to "famous" Brunsviga

opposite our house, second floor to the right is where we finally, finally ended our weekend-relationship!

This lille place was closed - for good?

A couple of years later and after much searching we finally...

Yep, we got our own condo :-)

And left the easterly ring area.
Now we live near said Gauss in the northerly ring area.
I simply can´t go for easy parking ;-)

Hello Sunshine

I can so not see at work with only 60% eyesight, it makes no sense!
So, guess from Monday til Friday I´ll get signed sick just yet again :-(

My head aches from trying to make out what´s on the screen properly for 8 hours straight! (really... words are quite ok,you don´t need every single letter to get a word but numbers...)
Well, so instead of going to the gym we went for a little walk.
(So now I feel recovered enough for a little time on the PC again)

Love that head on the house, here´s the whole pic:

Can´t wait for spring, but somehow those naked branches reflecting in the window do make it, I think.

Here it´s from the side:

See that sad last dry leaf on the tree?

And here, a beautifully datailed guard railing.

The bridge leads over River Oker - love the little boat there. Typical winter-afternoon-light:

The bridge is named after the famous Braunschweig mathematician and scientist Carl Friedrich Gauss (Gauss-bridge):

Glad we went today, forcast for the weekend: grey and rainy.
But! At least we gonna have a real weekend for a change - Ingo doesn´t need to work tomorrow, yay!
