To Rising

Today I join  Rain´s Thursday Art and Dinner Date with "Sunrise".
Quite fitting for this date.

I was in the office at Volkswagen Wolfsburg and we got no info at all as the CNN-Website was "dead". Hectical phone calls were made. Can´t believe it´s so long ago and still so fresh.

So... let us rather go to a country that is free:

Not healthy but very yummy.

Not into Rösti?
How about this, a black bean burger:

The internet series:

"Germany to scare: 30 ruins of days long gone

 Schlosshotel Waldlust, Freudenstadt, Baden-Württemberg

This former grand hotel in the Black Forest once hosted royalty and celebrities – today, it's more likely to be seen in German horror films. The Schlosshotel Waldlust, built in 1902, has had numerous owners over its more than 120 years of existence. Among them was a woman known only as "Adele B.", who died a violent death here in 1949. She is said to still haunt the corridors.

After her death, the building was converted into a military hospital, but it was finally closed in 2005 and has since fallen into disrepair. It remains a cultural monument."

Addendum: I love and didn´t know what Elizabeth commented: "We refer to today as Patriot Day. The day we came together as a nation."

Beans Or Enchilada

Last week I went with fK to SoLaWi (Community-supported agriculture) and whilst helping her cleaning up I "earned my share".

When you´re the last on the list you can take all that´s left but have to clean up. fK was happy she had help and Saturday I´ll present you a visitor!

Since Thursday became foody but I have no work yet (PC is on the way from Austria), I skip Rain´s work-theme today.

Anyways, here is some SoLaWi-Yum:

Back home I got a first idea:

And yesterday, first time I made ....

If you prefer something more professional:

"Germany to scare: 30 ruins of days long gone

 Spreepark, Berlin

Spreepark closed in 2002 after going bankrupt and has been in disrepair ever since. It resembles a graveyard of graffiti, rusted roller coasters, and forgotten amusement parks. Little remains of its golden days during the communist era. Back then, the amusement park was called VEB Kulturpark Plänterwald and welcomed around 1.7 million visitors a year.

It is currently being redesigned and is scheduled to reopen in 2026 as a new public art, culture, and nature park. Original elements of Spreepark, such as the Ferris wheel, will be preserved but repurposed. The listed Eierhäuschen (Egg House), which has been listed as a historical monument, has reopened in March 2024 and attracts visitors with a beer garden, restaurant, and exhibition spaces."

Look Over

Today I join  Rain´s Thursday Art and Dinner Date with "Fences" (she sadly takes a break, though, but some of us join anyway).
The fence we have here has a "secret hole" that was used by our neighbors to walk over directly.
One nice summer day Ingo and I sat on the balcony when suddenly......

A bit - it really was but a bit! of wind came and our sun brolly like a rocket made it to third floor....

...and back!!!! Right there were people usually sneak over!!! We have no insurance.

Nothing bad happened and ever since I tie the darn brolly safely to the balcony!!!!

And, P.S. yes, "went" ... it has stopped. Now it´s "them" and "us"... sad.

So the dinner-part....  "Neigh, whinny"....

King-Frog still thinks of the rocket-brolly....

Ingo can touch the sausage already and will NEVER understand I have a different feeling of "heat". Must do some research.
I´m no princess. Hot to me is hotter than to others.

Don´t run after me when you cook and want me to take a taste. HOT!
The banderole is a classic and clever thing yet... HOT!

"Germany to scare: 30 ruins of days long gone

Johannisthal, Berlin Airfield

When it opened in 1909, Johannisthal Airfield was one of the world's first motorized airfields. However, no aircraft have used its runway since 1995. The first German female pilot, Amelie "Melli" Beese, learned to fly here. The first German passenger airline service also launched from Johannisthal in 1919.

The historic airfield eventually lost its glory, and its operations were relocated to other airports. Today, part of the site has been converted into a park, but disused hangars and other industrial facilities can still be seen."

And what happens?! People complain about "the heat". 30+C we talk of, that is but 86+F...
I hope Perth is a bit warmer come February!!!!

Lemons

Today I join Rain´s Thursday Art and Dinner Date with lemon.
It felt good to try watercolor again.

Summer - salad-time! Fresh mushrooms are welcome in it, right? Dumb me put them in a place where I didn´t see them and fresh really was no more, but so what.

I had basil-tofu in the fridge, there is the good ole internet ét voilà...

Tofu and mushroom stir-fry.

It´s simple, cut the tofu.
Get the zest of one lemon, about 200ml orange juice, half of the lemon as juice, mustard to your linking.
Spice up, I used lemongrass and Curry Habanero.
Mix and pour it over the tofu, let marinate for 2 hours at least.
Cut the mushrooms, pepper them, fry without oil till done.
Meanwhile get the tofu, keep the marinade.
Push the mushrooms to the side, add oil to the pan.
Add tofu to the mushrooms, fry, when fried to your liking add the marinade, cut fresh parsley, add, done.

Really refreshing on a summer´s day.

Lemons btw, no ad, but this book is too cute:

Despite or because Gennaro Contaldo, who was Jamie´s teacher, and Jamie Oliver share so many recipes for free on FB or on the website I like to buy the one or other book.

Made with love, who could resist? Also with personal notes, as if Gennaro was right there.

The series:

"33 retro dishes that are rarely served today

 Cold Dog

This retro dessert, also known as "Cold snout," "Black Peter," or "Cellular Cake"  depending on the region, definitely deserves a comeback. Despite its somewhat obscure name, the layered cake made of butter cookies, coconut oil, and chocolate with a hint of rum flavor was particularly popular in the former GDR. In some families, it remains a staple in recipe books to this day."

I pass...
And, just in the morning news:a new trend, which´ll make me do more home cooking (uhh, I do that anyways): "Trend": Skimpflation ... AI says: "Skim inflation is a term used to describe a hidden form of inflation in which companies reduce the quality of their products or services in order to cut costs without lowering prices or reducing quantities accordingly. Instead, savings are made on ingredients or service quality, while the price remains the same or even increases."
And - real good news, planned: "Resuscitation courses as a school subject".
Meep. My last one, I had to pay for, was 2019? With way too many people to really try out. Are you fit in this?

At least it was when I made that dish. It´s cooled down a lot, 13C/55F...will Rise" to 19/66...

T STands For Summer And MoTivaTion

With this summery, refreshing drink I join Elizabeth´s T. Ahhhhh, summer!

The journal:

Monday: Big surprise, mobile phone. Bad connection, unknown number, had at first no clue.
Haven´t talked to my Brother in weeks as we parted in a HUGE argument.
Was SIL.
If Bro´d told me about the tax-problems, he did, she repeated anyways. Aha, you want money.
How to handle that? On she went the cat is sick. One bunny dead. Younger daughter finishes first grade school this week with a big party (times really have changed!).
Money?
Bro fell, sprained ankle and they have booked their holiday already...

She NEVER calls me and when I visit she speaks only to me when she has to, so what is this about???!
She even asked about my studies - and understood hence finally that it´s not easy-peasy.

"Please call your Brother..." An hour till she finally let this bomb drop.
And she said it really is likely that he forgot there was one time he did not talk to me for an entire year, despite I met him regularly in our parent´s hall.
The beginning with Bro was really difficult, but we are 100% OK again. Asked to thank SIL for her interfering.
And it´s only Monday!

26C, sunny, finished 04:30 with a test > balcony-time! 32C/89F!

Tuesday: In the morning got the new passport for Perth organized, took forever and ended in a free ride, see here, if you like.
The 50 horse-sausages arrived. They are small sausages, 3 makes a BBQ for the two of us.
See that as a Saturday-tradition, all year round on the balcony.

29C/84F, sunny, yippeee! Since I need both monitors I sit inside, studying...
When finished: Balcony-time! With  fruit salad and a good book.

Wednesday: Interesting. I learned from gigi-hawaii she ordered her passport via e-mail!
I needed birth-certificate and they took my fingerprint! And no, I was never in jail... I mean, I was, as in museums...
Today was a bit Perth-like:

From 36C/97F to next Tuesday down to 17C/62F. From today to tomorrow a huge drop!
Was in the city, all the way in the sun. The ocean is missing, it makes a difference...

Thursday: To qualify for this study you need to have passed a vocational training.
Today in the chunk "Online documentation" we had to evaluate and compare two longer tutorials. No worries for me, but really, if I just´d finished such an education, was maybe 20 years old I´d had not the slightest chance.
Both tutorials in superquick spoken English. Why??? The whole studies is in German.

Friday: ICE (DB German train). A 20-year old Syrian refugee with hammer and axe attacking people, four injured.
Yikes, I have to go to Dortmund by train soon - via Hanover, the most dangerous train station in Germany. Is studying worth it? Take Flixbus instead? Stay home and pretend to be sick?

fK called, she met mK (former teamlead of mine) at the summer-party. He said he wants me back (he started talking about me, not her, but he knows we are friends) - MOTIVATION!!!

fK and her family needed new passports, too. Even their 14-year old twins had to give their fingerprints!!!! Children!! And refugees? Not! Do you have to give your fingerprint, too?
Both fKs passports were expired (German and for traveling) - the lady was nice and said, OK, no fine this time. fK later googled.... up to €3 000!!!
What is wrong in this country?!

mT said Hi via WhatsApp, yippeeee. He usually does so only when working, so far still no work, still at CGS, but no work... "on hold".

Weekend: Saturday: Went to EDEKA for fresh meat. Got my number, no long wait, a very attractive, young man. No idea if that was flirting but I felt like Blanche Devereaux from The Golden Girls! Just in shy, of course.

Golden Girls. The episode where everybody thinks Sophia Petrillo is buying a nectarine, as every day and the other three "girls" wonder why Sophia  is exhausted from that. In reality she does A LOT as volunteer, being in her mid-80´s, amongst working in a hospital... Do you remember this game:

Started a bio by Betty White, who plays Rose Nylund. I love her, the person and the character. Will have a hard time to wait till I´m on my trip to Dortmund!
Sunday: Weather rather shitty, so...lazing about!
Watched "Lost in Translation" after decades.
And then. I wanted to have dinner ready on time.
Was exactly ONE HOUR EARLY.
HOW???? Mistook 04:35 for 05:35... Ingo suggested to put the potatoes into bed...

Munchy, of course, as it´s summer:

With Aussie-salt, too!

I remember Yuraygir National Park, the ranger looked like Norman Bates from the novel Psycho. He brought us Tropical wood every night so we can bake potatoes! Sweet memories of 1995! Or, rather, yummy ones!

The  series:

"33 retro dishes that are rarely served today

Flambéed cherries on vanilla ice cream

Flambéing was all the rage in the 1950s, especially when it came to desserts. This dish, in which whole cherries are cooked in liqueur, then flambéed (usually at the table) and served with vanilla ice cream, is credited to French chef Auguste Escoffier. He is said to have created the dessert for Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee celebrations in 1887. While vanilla ice cream with hot cherries can still be found on dessert menus today, flambéing at the table is now considered rather old-fashioned."

Nah, thank you...

 Enjoy summer!

Graduate

I join Rain´s Thursday Art and Dinner Date with Graduate. Can´t wait for that... again.
Wish me loads of luck in the next year...
Wonder how often I will have to study for work in the future still?

For the dinner part:

Ingo got fresh baguette and cheese!

You even don´t need butter, that creamy the cheese is!

The series

"Life in the slums of New York in the early 1900s

The spread of fire was a constant threat

Fire was a constant threat in tenement buildings. After the Tenement Act of 1867 came into force, fire escapes were finally installed in some buildings."
