The Lion Eats Today

Saturday we went to the new KFC – in fact we went to a KFC for the first time!

Whereas at Burger King or – no matter which – McD you have to wait forever cause, well, the interpretation of fast in “Fast Food” isn´t really regulated, is it?
8 customers in one lane never is a surprise and, yes, the poor guys don´t have the best paid jobs. But that´s not entirely an excuse for being slow and unfriendly.

Really it´s the same in each shop, each one looks the same and has the same “service”. I have to add that “service” is not a German word, so maybe that might be an explanation.

KFC? Very, very clean, we had near to no chance to think of what to try cause it was our turn in a sec!
The girl was really friendly, with a genuine smile, and fast.
We had each ordered 6 pieces of chicken, a small portion of chips (they had to make, obviously a wish for small isn´t that common) and a coke. We got at least 9 pieces of chicken each!
And it was yummy!
And so well done in the interior design. And you knew exactly where you are, at KFC in Braunschweig, the Lion-City (see pic).
Sadly I had only my small cam with me, so I took but one pic. There are several posters of important places of our city, well done!

Winter is still around and seldom we have a sunny day like this one.
Usually most of the time it looks like this:

And today in the news I learned that we have the darkest winter since 43 years.
No wonder I feel unfit and tired.
Not even 100 hours of sunshine since start of December. Usually you have 160 in this time-period!

Best thing to do is, since you can´t change it: Go outside and hence we went, as almost every Monday.

And what did we find? A new grocery-store in the city.

Here you can see Henry the Lion and some of the known places and a sign saying “Braunschweig – our likeable major city”.
The director gave me a big smile when he saw me taking the pic :-)

And certainly they sell the right coffee as well:

It´s great to live in a city like that!

Despite the weather and me feeling unfit life is really nice to me.

When my Teamleader gets bored... he happily exclaimed: I framed this one for you :-)

My old Motto-Card is on the magnet-board now. It says "The early bird can try to get me".

Our identity cards needed an update, hence Teamleader went to the customer´s office, which is where the cars are build.
The queue time he went to Burger King. The woman working on the id-cards needed like forever, so Teamleader came back without them, a little frustrated, and told us what had happened.
I said, oh, great, now I´m hungry…

The woman called, Teamleader hopped into the car again.
I got my id-card back with a burger an impish smile and an added, so you´re not hungry anymore :-)

That happened after colleague T went to make a cuppa tea. He forgot to ask me if I like one, too. So he came back with the hot water :-)

I´m taken care of pretty well, no?

And the little bowls in the pic... Ingo (who´s home this week) surprised me with cheese and grapes in my bag.

Yesterday in the city Ingo saw this Cheesburger:

I placed it at Teamleader´s PC this morning as a thank you.

Do I mention we went to Schadt´s for a shared Currywurst for dinner?

Not the healthiest time food wise atm!
I do mention and when the project we´re at atm is done I´ll definitively change that!

Perth, 03/06 – Sculptures By The Sea

Today I went to Cottesloe to visit the Sculpteres by the Sea.

When I went on the bus in front of the caravan park I could not even say „good morning“, the bus-driver smiled big at me and said „cheers! How ya goin?!“ :-)
THAT is some nice start in the day, no?

Bus, train, next train – and for sure the device that tells you what´s next was broken. What is it with Transperth lately?

In Cottlesloe I took the free Cott Cat to the Indiana and a bunch of people was already there, not too crowded yet, though.

What I find amazing is how even this artwork is placed - just look at the horizon!

I admit, it was by accident, but cool with the line of the ocean, huh?

And what do I find next?

Please, tell me what it is with your Scottish bagpipes???

There sure were amazing pieces of Art.

Just loved that it wasn´t only kids but also the adults using this piece of art :-)

I just wasn´t too sure about the installation to the right, when you have the Indiana in the back.

I sure do know you cannot exclude the Islam – but making it that important whilst all this happens?
Note from today, April 17th... I saw it has moved to the city even...

There are heaps of Indians here, too, they sure could´ve added some more „churches“ of different beliefs, not just a mosque. My two cent to that. Or rather my German two cent. I don´t wanna go deeper into this on here...

I wandered around in my own pace, which is rather slow – my, it was hot, I needed to search shadow often!
And even went into the sea, awww, bliss – well only up to my knees, certainly.

So much beautiful, clever art here!

I wonder if all the girls sunbathing were tourists from Europe, not aware of the UV-index here?
You must get a clue, when all others are wrapped up against the sun, no?

I sat in the grass in the shadown, just watching the seagulls, the sea, the art, the people – surely would not have been possible with Ingo in tow.
Sometimes it´s good to do things seperatly...
Oh, will I miss the sea!

Quite frankly, taking this one to the city would be useful!

This really is an odd one, I think...

The more I loved the idea of this and it was well frequented! :-)

I know I am spoiled. In 1995 we visited the Mini-Bungle-Bungles in Mirima National Park - we found it by chance and I nearly knocked out due to the very, very dry heat. I got all dizzy...

We dreamed of seeing "the real thing" one day, from the arial view,...

1999.. Nah, the heli-flight was too expensive for our liking, we drove in.

Our very beautiful, strong Nissan Patrol LWB... awwww...

It was a tough route! By golly!
And what did wait for us?
Awesome landscape and... The most noisiest campers we´d ever met.
LIGHTS - MUSIC- NOISE.
And on top of that a poor little boy who coughed through the night and none of the adults cared.
I´ll never forget that night...

I just wondered about the girls behind me who stated which was art and which not – yeah, maybe by your rules, girls, yours, not the world´s...

Sadly wind came up, not good for my eyes. And rather cold, too. As in „cold“. Had a look at the temps in Braunschweig....2C, felt temp -1, cloudy. Brrrrrrr, noooooo!

I finally said goodbye to the beach, hopped on the Cott Cat, train to Perth, went to Northbridge to catch a mural we had not seen on Tuesday when Grace and Pat let us out there cause you can only see it not facing the city.

Found some more on the way, too :-) and got my Bro and SIL some iron-ore rings. Dunno what they would cost in Germany but here.... $ 1,95 each!!!

On Forrest Place were not only the food stalls but also Chinese New Year celebrations.

I could´ve waited till it all begins. I so wanted to try the Indian food.
But all I took were pics – no more sickness before flying back, right?

For now it was driving back, and my, some peeps just have no manners!
At Glendalough a dude popped in, placed himself on a priority seat, blocking the push-open button, put out his crisps (what about no food or drink on Transperth?) and fiercly and loudly emptied it (finally!), had a sip and then cleaned his teeth with one hand. „Yummy“.

On the bus later a woman with five kids, likely from different fathers hopped on the bus, no hello, no thank you.
What is today, bully-day?

It was another nice day, but now back and feet hurt. Getting old ;-)
Bet with the sun going up or down the effects are even better with the Sculptues, but it was really too windy for me to wait.

Tonight on 7 Mate is Forrest Gump.
When I saw that movie in Germany I thought, eww, what crap!
Especially the scene where Forrest steps out on the verandah and looks in that artificial sky – ha, so not a real sky!

1995 we saw every movie on display in the oldest open-air cinema in.the.world.
You find it in Broome, back then it was called Sun Pictures.
This really is worth a read - flooding and airplaines in the most strategic moments, followed by applause from the audience :-)

We also hence saw Forrest Gump cause Sun Pictures was really special.

And guess what?
Forrest steps out and the perfect movie-sky just blended into Broomes outback-sky perfectly. Maybe there was even the Southern Cross, I don´t recall that.
Ever since I love this movie.
So, whilst Ingo made himself a bbq (I find that place here in the Caravan Park is smelly), I took a cooler bag and went to Wollies to get 4 little creatures for the event. Put 3 in the bag, one on the cash-out desk, said, this and the ones in the bag, please.
The girl did not understand and wanted me to pay for the one on the counter.
Naturally I told her, no, plus these three.
Right thing to do, no, even though it´s a huge chain. Maybe they would´ve tracked her down for it...

And, eww, I wonder. 4 ½ weeks my body was fine with bus and train and aircon. Now I caugh and sneeze like crazy, how come???

In the City

That´s where I went yesterday after work. I parked the car, grabbed the bike, went to do my absentee ballot - hehe. Wasn´t easy. I stood in front of the community center which should be open ´til 4:30 but was closed. A man was standing there, too, wondering. A third one joined. I took my ballot paper - another adress was given there. I asked where that was, they didn´t know but one of them said, "ask that man over there, he looks like he knows" - and he did! How could he tell?
Afterwards I went to see my doctor. I just sat down in the waiting room when she called me in. Great! But the time I saved there I lost at the (cell-) phone provider T-Com.

Unbelieveable. Three (!!!) customers in front of me in the row left. One was going, "if I come here tomorrow, will I be served then?!" - He claimed to have been waiting for almost an hour - I was standing in line for over 30 minutes, so I believed him. But I couldn´t go anyplace else since I bought the darn cell phone just there.
One staff member was trying to call the main store using two empty phones. Another one took his break.
Another custumer popped in, asking me if this was one or two rows. I told him, "guess one, but three people left already ". We tried to joke around for a while but it wasn´t funny. Staff claimed one customer just stole a cellphone, didn´t know what to do, in the end he found the cellphone on his desk. (...)
Finally! It was my turn!
I told the lady I think the rechargeable battery doesn´t work, turned out the charger was (seems to be) the problem (I hope so! I don´t want to have to come back again!). She fetched another one to check - but could not give it to me! No, she can only send the bad one in and get me a new one. She wanted to call me when it´s in - if she could use the cellphone number? Sure!! It´s empty due to the charger not working, but give it a try! Argh! I gave her my number at work and she offered to charge the cellphone ´til closing time since I told her it´s the only phone I got. O.k. - not she is the stupid one but the T-Coms´ system.

So I had 1 1/2 hours time to spend in town. I wanted to buy a nice cereal bowl for my boyfriend - one with a lion (I live in the town of Henry the Lion) - no chance. I got bored.
Roaming around, I went to the City Point (mall) and found an new chinese restaurant with take-away. It looked very clean - aaaand it had those fancy take-away bowls you see in american movies all the time!
I don´t quite remember... in Dampier (WA) we took a chinese take-away but it came, as I believe to remember right, in simple aluminium. And it tasted awful, that I know for sure. Here you usually dine in, take aways come in boring styrofoam.
So I couldn´t resist. Chicken with noodles it was. Hot. Take-away. Fancy american-like.
Then I thought, damn, gotta fetch my cellphone, get to my bike (other direction) and drive home.

Well! Still hot, even after turning on the telly, DVD-player, Gilmore Girls (I got chinese take-away!), fetching chopsticks and taking pics, giving it a try (first time actually using chopsticks) - and proving it on the digicam!

So - without the darn T-Com-thing I wouldn´t have discovered this fancy take-away! To everything bad is something good :-)

BTW: It was easy using chopsticks after a while! Ingo had shown me how to do it, using things, but no real food - with real food it´s easy!
And the mixture of meat and noodles was just fine, taste: great!
Yum!







And I now know why in american movies people always get those take-aways out of the fridge - impossible to eat it at once - way too much!

Put#n Does Not Care About The Russians

There is no Russian army here, Dr. Vitali Klitschko says in this interview. They come and they have to go. The Ukrainian army shows a lot of patriotism.

 

The whole population supports the army.

Everybody hates Put#n (he says Put#n, not the Russians!), his phone is running hot with people asking for weapons to defend the Ukraine, THEIR country.

 

Many Russian terroristic groups are in the city, snipers even.

He understands people flee, nobody wants war. 

Russia says they don´t attack civil places, yet they did already.

If he thinks Russia will get the big bombs out, saying civilians are to leave the city, asks the reporter.

 

 

It is difficult to look into Put#n´s brain, he says, the man is mentally ill, "nicht alle Tassen im Schrank", (not all cups in the board, as we say, LOL - he lived in Hamburg for quite a while).

HE cannot understand why  attack Ukraine, they are peaceful, friendly people.

 

Food and medication, even drinking water is not easy to get already.

He says he saw the speech of Put#n.

He has lost it, Put#n, talks about nationalists, Naz#s in Ukraine - they don´t understand, BUT...

 

...propaganda works, the Russians really do believe that!

 

We saw the speech here, too, I nearly fell off my chair.

Channel "Russia Today" has more money than the city of Kiev, they can do what they want! But he believes the people of Russia will start to think. The WHOLE world is against this war. sanctions are working and...

His Brother is there to support him. And the Mother. He says, "no worries, Mama, I take care of the younger one, and the younger one goes to her, Mama, no worries, I take care of the older one".

 

He says we need time to understand what´s going on, it feels like being in cinema, it´s fantasy or horror movie. Yet it´s harsh reality.

 

He has to take care of his people, hospitals, service etc and defend the city.

 

Put#n must hate you, the reporter says. You are pro-West, have lived in Germany, USA...

 

He wants to implement a European standard. Kiev is a beautiful, historical city, he wants to bring this forward and nobody can take this dream away from him.

If he is afraid to get killed. "At one point", he says, "each of us will die". As ex soldier he has learned when his country needs him he has to be there to defend it, and,  if necessary, give his life.

What will the future bring, will Kiev be able to withstand?

"Thank you for this question, this is important - Germany, the whole world is supporting Ukraine. Millions of people were in the streets yesterday to demonstrate against the war. 

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting us in moral, with weapons." 

 

He wants people to go into the street for the Russians to see. They live in the Middle Ages there, they need to wake up!

 

Yes, they need military support, food, medication, but the most important (knocks on his chest), is it comes from the heart, moral support is important, to be with Ukraine.

What if Put#n is imputable? His people have to react, they must ask themselves why they don´t get any western produce anymore etc, they have to wake up.

"Papa, take care" say his kids via phone, his family has left Ukraine.
