To come of age

Or "adult", "grown-up", "grown".
If I had an accident and lost my memory. How old would I think I am?
You could tell me one of those chairs is mine. That I´m probably still a student, renovating in the flat share, looking forward to the bottle of beer after the job.
I knew I´d have a driving license, but apart from that I don´t feel very grown-up. How can that be? I make my own money, I depend on no-one, financially at least. Is it because I take responsibility only for myself and no-one else?
How feels being grown-up"? When am I "grown"?
Anyone else feeling that way?
Labels: just me

Funny ... I recently had a convo like this with my 11 year old. She was complaining about all she is responsible for with school work, chores, etc. I told her to live it up now because when she's "GROWN UP" ... she'll be paying taxes, having to work every day - maybe for a jerk - renting or buying a home, needing to have health insurance, car insurance, pay credit cards, utilities, buying her own food, clothes, and generally running her life herself, whereas now, all she has to do is get up, get dressed, eat, brush hair/teeth, get driven to school, do her schoolwork and chores, and well ... that is it!! SO Iris my dear, yes, you're all grown up. :)
Hmmm... and interesting question. Hubby and I quite often talk about what we'd like to do or be when we 'grow up'. You know, I've been married 11 years, have amortgage, two kids and (before I had the kids!) a career but I don't usually feel very grown up. In real life, like chronologically, I'm 37 but in my head I was 28 for a very long time. I recently bumped up to 32 in my head but still... not actually a grown up! I think it's a state of mind rather than an age thing.
You're grown up when you start telling kids how it was when you were a kid. "Back in my day..."
LOL Hammy!! YES!
Yip, I agree with all the above!!
Welcome to our world.
