I as a diabetic during pregnancy and I had high blood pressure, so they gave me a no-salt, no-carbs, no-sugar diet. A dietician helped me with my diet and I was allowed one glass of red wine a day and as the rest of my food was tasteless, I pretty much survived on the wine I think. When it was time to give birth I was grossly under weight and they recommended I don't breast feed. In spite of all that, my son is quite healthy.

I don't drink much (excepr for tea and water) so alcohol was not a problem when I was pregnant, but I wasn't careful about what I ate, and was too busy running around my very active toddler to take much rest, but I had five healthy sons, and I believe worrying for the whole nine months does more damage.

They seem to have a long list now of what you can’t eat/do when pregnant…I’m not sure it’s really necessary. I was still swinging a hover mower round our grassy bank and wall papering at full term .

I have no children, I cannot say anything to this. But my Mom was also working "till the last day"... These days... I only know from my SIL.... it´s a circus. To the olden days, hugs x
Yes, my Mom worked full-time, there was no fuss about the natural thing of growing a baby. Now it´s a money-machine even before you get to the point - here at least, meds for better chances to receive and endless ads on diapers. Drives me nuts. Oh, well, maybe it was really back then, to that! x

Obviously, the human species would be extinct if EVERY pregnancy was as risky as those restrictions make it sound. The statistics are what is being taken into account: can you make it less likely that you or the baby will have problems? What the advice is intended for is to change the ODDS of having a bad outcome. Of course most of the cases we know of had a good outcome, but the risks were there. This is not intuitive.

Love the rabbit and the funny but true memes. I didn't smoke when I was pregnant, it made me sick. But I did before and after. I was never a drinker so I didn't drink either. My mom had 6 kids and smoked we all came out just fine. LOL Thank you for sharing with FFO and have a great weekend.

When I was a kid in the 50s and 60s it was odd to see adults who DIDN'T smoke or drink even when pregnant and all the kids turned out fine, no one adjusted their normal diets and when it was my turn in the seventies I never adjusted my diet either. I don't smoke or drink anyway, so didn't have to cut that out. All my kids are healthy.
I'll tell you what bothers me most, is those parents who give up smoking while they are pregnant, so clearly they are able to do without, but start smoking again after the baby is born! if you are able to quit, then stay quit!

Pregnancy...I went through 5 of them and really didn't change much of anything in my diet. I didn't smoke or drink anyway, couldn't afford to! I have always eaten a fairly healthy, simple diet, just by choice and not for any big reason except I don't like processed food . All of my sons have been strong healthy men, so far.
