How We Tick

This is still hanging by my private PC - I attended the ceremony, too, that year.

I found another weird article - German source here.
Trump wants to rename Veteran´s Day to "Victory Day for World War I" to honor the victory over WWI by the United States.

He says - and he is right - other countries like France, Great Britain, Australia and Russia have their own ones, too.

But then he, who never even was a soldier, states, "we are the ones who won the wars". WHAT?!
He also wants to celebrate for WWII.
And maybe many more, as "we won lots".

I´d so be with him if he´d stated "our soldiers", but like this he kinda dis-honors the soldiers in my eyes - as said, he, who never was a soldier himself.

“No one was our equal in strength, courage, or military skill – but we never celebrate that.”
Dozy Don - get your words right, please!
(They make fun of him here, too, in reference to him naming Joe Biden "Sleepy Joe"...)

And what is happening in Germany?
They discuss, and in many a federal state it is implemented, to celebrate May 8th.

The date of Nazi Germany's surrender in 1945 as a nationwide holiday or day of remembrance.
"We" celebrate surrender. What happened is never to be forgotten and these generations are thankful others ended this.

Willkommen - KulturImZelt

Those who know me can imagine I had too much time on my hands to meet fK at ESE - I´m always too early and especially when we get to meet the new boss!
So I wandered around a bit and took pics of "the tent", KulturImZelt, culture in the tent, which takes place each summer here in Braunschweig.
They offer sustainability market, jazz, pop, chansons or classical music, readings, cabaret, comedy, theater...

Did I go? So far not, because it is FULL TO THE BRIM. In a tent!
fK and her wife went a couple of times and I got these:

Call me overly anxious but the Love-Parade-desaster in Duisburg 2010 comes to my mind.
How do you get out of there in case of panic?

Would you go? This is for Tom´s Signs2.

"The Dangers of Fashion in the Victorian Era

 Combustible substances

The popular flowing white cotton fabrics were not only one of the products that came from plantations that operated with slavery, but also a real danger for the wearers.

But things got even worse. In 1809, the fabric we know today as tulle was invented. There could hardly be anything more flammable.

British ballerina Clara Webster reportedly died in 1845 after her dress caught fire on the stage of the London Theatre when it came too close to the stage lights.
As a popular material for nightgowns and underwear, the fabric also posed a risk for household accidents, such as catching fire from a candle."

OMG, "It" is here - where is his balloon???

What do we do???? "It" cannot get on the tram, can he? And... he´s standing right beside a kid, too!

FFO and Smiles And Hopefully Laughter

This screaming lady is for Nicole´s FFO and  Gillena ...
Is she screaming of fear or of joy???
At first I thought -- Halloween, Spider, horrible ghosts.
Maybe the latter that we overcame 35 years ago.

AI: "German Unity Day on October 3rd, 2025 is the 35th national holiday, as the GDR joined the Federal Republic on October 3rd, 1990 and this day has been a public holiday ever since."

"Us Wessies" were afraid at first - it all went too fast. But now the ghosts are gone and I would go for a joyful "AAAA!" Thanks for having you guys here, all "my" mT´s, fK... I don´t wanna have missed them!

And for the Friday´s Smiles, awww...

And how about some funnies?

Yes. This is my Hubby. As most of us, me included, he hates decluttering.
So, despite having two weeks off... he sits just like that... OK, last minute he at least started - please keep going!

All very, very nice people at ALSTOM! Sadly? Cause...

Polite. Seems like German and Spanish people are way more impulsive than Austrian ones!
So far didn´t hear the F-word once!

And of course....

For CJ (I´m more the Pudding-Fan. Ah, nahhh. Love them all! #Supernatural).

 Deadly pigment

Chemist Carl Wilhelm Scheele discovered a new green pigment.
This was initially called Scheele Green and later Paris or Schweinfurt Green and consisted of a mixture of potassium and white arsenic in a solution of copper sulfate."

Was I Lucky

I just watched a YouTube-docu on Verschickungskinder (docu-link - German), "Children Sent Away".

My doc sent me claiming I was too small and thin. I remember the room where we ate and the one we slept in, that I got no Birthday-pressie from my parents (on the homes´ demand) and when back in Hanover was the only kid remaining, as my parent´s new car´d broken down.

Bad. Bad?

In this docu they interviewed former children sent away, it was horrible.

In some of those "homes" children were given this:

You know likely the Thalidomide scandal... Children aged 2 - 12 were given an adult double dose daily  over their stay, other meds were "tested" by injections with brutal force...

One man remembers you could hear each and every child scream in pain... outside!

Here is more pain-methods:

You peed your underwear (like the kid above me back then) - they had to wash their clothes  themselves.
You misbehaved? Water and bread only, no participating in games, got locked up in a dark chamber, had to wear a humiliating sign around your neck with what your "crime" was, got spanked ....

One man remembers he had to eat blood sausage, which he hated. They forced him to.
He had to vomit. He had to eat the vomit.
Sexual assaults were common, too.

They were called liars when they told their parents - if they were able to, some just came back broken. Suffer still.

Some of the carers were former Nazis.
This went on till the 1980´s - I was there 1977, in a "good" home.
9 Months later my Brother was born, hmmm, go figure ;-)

Boy, was I lucky!!! The only punishment being "forced" to stand in line for the skinny ones getting fat butter and jam on my bread which I traded with a boy who was to loose weight.
They let us sit where and with whom we wanted!
Other I remember walks in the icy-cold weather by the beautiful ocean.
No worries with those glovies.

The series
"Things that are misrepresented in films

Humans only use a small part of their brain
Films like the thriller "Limitless" (2011) starring Bradley Cooper and "Lucy" (2014) are based
on the idea that humans only use a small part of their brain. Thanks to advanced brain
imaging, however, we now know that this is a myth.

Yes, I was shocked...

At Guildford#4

No worries, mates - this is but a postcard I sent from Madeley/Perth last year, it´s lying on my Lenovo.I should´ve bought one card for myself, too...

Note the Lenovo I bought in Joondalup/Perth in 2017... Aussie-/American keypad - German is different. Where the "Z" is we have the "Y").

Let´s have a last look at the Guildford Hotel, just a quick browse-through...

And here comes a greeting from P to Ingo:

Whilst Grace showed me around, P ordered me a fresh, cool, yummy beer!
And certainly we had free tap-water. Wonder when this comes to Germany...

Of course we were hungry!

I didn´t manage to eat it all... Thank you, Grace and P for taking me!

Part#4 here.
Part#3 here.
Part#2 here
Part#1 here.

Lamb and Scottish beef on display at a London meat market. Today, health and safety officials would raise the alarm at such a sight."

With this the series ends - but maybe try to keep some of this. Less online-ordering, visit your local stores more, if you don´t do already...

Choir of Kookaburras

Today I join Eileen with...

From FB - I do have Madeley-Kookaburras on camera at daytime, too, but the wind was very strong.
Why Kookaburras?
Yesterday was... wow.

Shortly on Thursday - I want to prepare my video-call with the job center - you can test if  mike, cam and sound work but suddenly there was no test for the mike no more! Ingo came to the rescue, I had parallel headset and ordinary mike and hoped for the best.

Friday: 10:20 I try to join the call - and could not! Tests gave me OK - PANIC!
This call was very important to me!

In case you don´t know, we have all economical difficulties and I signed a termination agreement - but my teamlead announced, if unofficial, that he wants me back. As technical editor - I need to do a training and get a certificate.
As most I thought, pff, a little writing, can´t be so hard - training: 12 months!!!!
Because I did similar, specifications etc, I´ll have 11 Months. Costs € 12 000+!!!

But I was prepared to fight for it! Fight that I get it payed by the job center.
Because I want back to ESE, back to my teamlead.
Gave all info beforehand - and now I cannot join?!

10:30, phone rings - they get new cameras and hence we need to do it via phone...
The lady was nice and happy I have plans and a guarantee of getting my job back and said, 95% you get it payed, I only need... amongst other: The guarantee offiical in written form.

OK, contacted my always busy teamlead and said it´s urgent.
BOOM, he called me back immediately- what I need and if he does so it is binding, "but I want you back anyways!"

HAPPY DANCE.
When I signed back then in December I said, around January - March we wanna go to Perth for six weeks - "wow, great, we plan around that!".

So now I have in written form that I will have my job back on April 1st 2026!!!! (Knock on wood, I need that certificate!)

So, Kookaburras, Magpies, Kangaroos, we see you soon (and our friends of course, too!).

This is how they bring us to bed at "night" 🥰:

Taken in our Caravan Park in Madeley/Perth.
Boy, I´d like to pack my things like right now!! Temps there (it is evening already): 25C!
