Wednesday´s Words On A Friday

 

 

For a change I can join River again, as these words really spoke to me just yesterday:

(I am not only lazy, but I should work... but on the other hand I have some extra-hours to quickly "waste for fun"!)

 

 

So here goes:

I am lucky I got a mostly good-functioning brain and at age 14, when Dad asked me, I did decide, I said "no" to my parent´s shop. My poor Brother has it and I am a happy, tiny employee. At a great company again that allows me 6 weeks of holiday in a row (again), so I can even meet River in person, as we pay a very short visit to her town!

Other work is chaos.

I was warned the project at ALSTOM will be chaotic (it was and is and yet I hope I can come back) and now I have two weird internal projects.

I am immune to warnings. And I get talked on the other hand into stuff I do not want.

My brain said no, my heart said, yes, as did Ingo and my Brother so yesterday I took the bike and went to ESE for the darn Quiz-Night.

By golly. These two women had a plan... not. It was - may I use the word twice... chaos.

Instead of water there was more or less warm beer. As in some standing on the table and some put in the fridge 5 minutes ago!

There were chips and sweets at least, but no buffet. Do you cry already?

We were asked if we want to order pizza. I cannot eat a whole pizza and am there by bike.

I did not order (there were chips! 😃).

It was chaos. We have a German word, daddeln. Everybody (except one other woman  and the man beside me, and myself) got out their smartphones and daddled for food.

The two organizers counted how many peeps are there (out of 400 it was a sad 20, them included). It... too long. Quiz-teams were formed by grabbing a paper from a glass and we all had to re-sit.

I got letter A and the much younger woman sitting next to me came up with the name "A-TEAM".

I said, "I loved that series!!" and got a blank look.

Long story short, 4 woman (one smelling of old sweat!) and only one man, who offered me a slice of his pizza - with which, after all the chips I was full.

One woman like me ordered nothing, but the other two offered as well! I SADLY had to say no.

I was the only one with a plate, hence (gah!!! Pics were taken! Who and why a plate?!), as the other wanted to stay slim.

Hey, pizza is life - right?

We lost the quiz and the only one I really talked to was the man. And I can´t remember his name. He said he´s from near Hannover. I replied, "and you admit that HERE openly?! 😉"

I am no "real" Braunschweig-person and find the "fight" between Braunschweig and Hannover dumb, but ... I thought it´s good for a joke. He was not immune to that.

Ingo came home. Hot day at work (no windows etc, long drive, tired and exhausted), checked the tyres, ran, grabbed the cellar keys to find a pump so I can ride more or less safely to the event (we need a proper pump).

Same goes to the bike. I did not fall, had no accident!

I also remembered the safety-number.

Ingo´s old work-phone-number plus an added one from... 200...8 latest!

Light rain started but I made it home well.

Next After-Work-Event... Dunno.

All I could add was: Oh, ack. I´ll never forget the magazine in my parent´s house.

Without warning I saw the burned people. (I got sick, no lunch for me.).

As said, we lost! ;-)

Remember the days of camera with real films? A cheapy then had near to no zoom and even the Minolta I had.... not THIS quality.

 

He/she sat there for minutes like that. 

Some devilish plan is coming up, I bet. Or maybe a nice "hello"-waving?

Wednesday´s Words On A Friday

Braunschweig, for a change, 2002.

My dear colleague S asked me to go out with colleague T who just got divorced and was very sad, plus had his daughter with him.

 

OK then. We went to a pub, that T and I. It was quite loud there, well define loud but you had to "yell".

It´s not only sometimes the following happens to me, rather quite often even.

How my day had been, he asked whilst a song was blaring.

The moment I wanted to answer "a colleague used wrong variables and all in all gave me..." the music ended and into the silence I yelled "SHIT#Y CODE!"

In German it sounds like "Kot" which is usually dog-poo.

We were the only IT-guys, imagine how the people were looking at us...

 

Another time  I was at the butcher in a grocery store.

I got what Ingo wanted and then mine. It was at COVID-times, a glass panel between us and there was the usual announcement, mask, distance etc and USUALLY it ends at other stores with a thank you. Not so there, so, as the butcher-lady did not understand I yelled that I want... sudden silence "TWO BREASTS". Ups. To be honest, the others laughed, of course. A good thing in that panic-mood... We tried to take it all with humor.

 

It´s usually my favorite thing to use all the words in this colourful world 😁

 A peek into our kitchen?

 

 

This is in Braunschweig. In Rhüden I accidentially brought a baby-bat inside - Ingo saved it (we guess and hope).

It somehow managed to get between two plates we had outside after finishing our BBQ and still enjoying the summer-night.

 

Eye? I have to make an appointment for an Iris-scan as mine went wrong in Freo (I don´t have brown eyes, they mixed the pics up).

The photo is right by my PC and hence the  .. I don´t even know the German word, the "thingy" under my 70´s chair I found in the street is there as reflection - how cool is that?!

Ingo tells this story: He wanted to.... it´s a lie - his Mother has the same eye.

Don´t buy his story - he has this from birth. He did not rip his eye climbing under a fence...

 

Wish me luck this time my "my-scan" (haaa-ha) is better (I have my Father´s eye-color and this is also where my name (Iris) is from, hence this is important to me.

Yes, my Dad is long gone (2002), but I kinda feel I owe it to him... it´s a bit like having him here (I do have pictures of my family in the living room and kitchen, of course).

Wednesday´s Words On a Friday

 

 I, with HUGE respect (and one should not start a sentence with "I"! Know that, me...) join River with the Wednesday/Friday-meme...

This week's words/prompts are:

With a little bit of the best zinc-sun cream we sadly cannot find no more - it was a wonderful application to take care of your skin in the Australian sun... in the  companionship of Ingo I traveled the beautiful Outback of Australia.

My father gave me the money for it as he knew we only need little of it, sleeping in the car and living a cheap life, away from industrial areas mostly.

He made progress in his thinking - the first journey, 1995, he thought we sleep in bag packer-hostels and such... no, we are cheapies ;-)

I brought so much money back home he could not believe it!! LOL.

Distinguished or poshed is not a word to describe us (haha - lying, Ingo booked the Indian Pacific!!!).

 

I remember one time Ingo needed to "go" - he got SOAKED, so wet is not the right word. 

I really would give the world to see the Outback again. The stars, the Southern Cross, just Ingo and I.

We might be able to see it, but with many other people from the train.

I need to be thankful and take what I get.

To Heads... Hats!!!

 

 

When Ingo was little he thought asparagus are worms - he ate them but to his parent´s joy refused "the best part", the heads.

I thought capers are animals and refused to eat that.

 

Did you have such "stupid" thoughts as a kid, too?

 

I don´t like fresh asparagus and made another pan-pizza:

 

 So quick, easy and cheap without the oven!

 

 

Here is #1 with the forgotten basil...

 

 

The dough is crispy, the cheese melts - it´s better to cut, though, after it cooled down and hit the microwave for a warm-up (I can´t eat much).

Or, well, don´t cut - BITE! Recipe by Jamie here. Pizza has no head or hat, but...

 

I join Rain with hats - where ALSO I cannot leave a comment no more, thank you, blogger, no matter which browser I use - The Padre, Dora, Deb , Caty...and now Rain...  but I join cause... we booked Perth and I need to take my old friend along:

 

 

I think I bought the hat 2013 in the kid´s section of BigW (my head is small).

It was super-red at first but the Australian sun sure is powerful.

Ever since this hat is on my head in Perth and my Aussie friends know me with this only. 

 

 

It really has lost it´s color "totally"!

 

I wonder, though, if it still protects me from the aggressive Australian sun or if I check the kid´s section anew?

But I love this hat!

Wednesday's Words on a Friday

 

I´m joining River again with memories for Wedneday´s Words on a Friday:

Reckon you can guess - we´re back at River´s home-land, Australia.

I spare you the pic of 1995. I was the driver of car above and there was a roo at the side of the road. It wouldn´t hop away. I am gentle, I slowed down, nothing. - it was a carcass on a sign-post. An angry driver must´ve put it there after it demolished his car. Kangaroos tend to join the bitumen roads at night as these keep the warmth...

Let´s "hop" to 1999. On the way to Darwin or Cairns, I dunno, the temperature was high... as the humidity! But a beautiful landscape, of course. Quite a change to dry WA! Roost... Hmmm, we always slept in the car, we were young, we coped - would we do that now, nearly 30 years later? Dunno. (yes?).

Anyways. There was the smell of fish. IN the car. Ingo might´ve hoped this was reality - after all in Carnarvon he once caught a macarel!

 

You know what happens in high humidity and heat? Potatoes smell like fish very soon when wrapped in plastic as you get them from Woolies/Coles - don´t take that on the light shoulder (German saying?).

Ingo was so brave to look for what that was - BIG EWWW!!!

(Stars) And Stripes

I am cheating on you. This bird sat in the windowsill for years and is not really red anymore due to the sun... Still I join Aimeslee´s Spring-theme with this.

 

 

At least my human joins me with the stripes... (I found no stars, though!)

She claims it´s an accident with the clothes-combi. 

 

 

It WAS an accident! The jumper is Ingo´s and the socks are Christmas socks.

Apart from you no one sees me.

Well, and poor Ingo... that´s what a marriage does to one! In our first years this NEVER would´ve happened!

@Tom., if you read along... Those are the shoes I mentioned yesterday... Those on my feet, not the grey ones to the right... ack. I need to "arrange" for pictures...?

Henry is disappointed. Sun is out but it´s way too cold - it even was in the news.

Spain bubbles away in the heat and we in Germany freeze our butts off.

Crazy times.

But... they said "again", so this situation is nothing new.

I happily tend to forget about cold times...

As you can guess this sign I took a pic of is in Emden.

"Huus" is East Frisian for "house". Candies are "Süßigkeiten" - nothing for me.

Pizza, please!

With this I join Tom´s Signs2 and since Spring is happily on the way I also go with Aimeslee´s Spring-theme.

 

 Bare with me, I´m still a beginner and once dried these sketches look so boring!

I´m too slow and my plan is: Diluent N - but it´s dark right now, bad idea.

I am a frugal beginner. I use the paper that came with the watercolor-set, it´s 20*12cm, 8 sheets.

I split most in half AND always use both sides...

So those 8 papers make ca. 32 beginner-sketches and if not too bad I´ll share.

Why the heck did I wait so long trying water colors - it´s fun!!!

Hach!!!! "Signs!!!! I watch "Lost Places"  on my right monitor whilst I type. They say Hawaii and pronounce it correctly in both languages (drives me NUTS when they have the harsh "W". Pronounce Canberra wrong and trouble is on the way (I know, I did!)).

 

Barcelona and Bockenem are two more that can cause "aggression" when pronounced wrong, btw. And believe me. East Germans fail to pronounce Barcelona, where our tram is built, the right way. Heard it too often, always cringed.

My Mum had a friend from there, hence I know how to pronounce that!

Shoot. Now I crave Toast Hawaii... But we have too much food from the weekend still.

House-pig (me) has other stuff to eat hence...

Guess what?

 

 

My ears and mind look forward to... fulfill Ingo´s wish and we´ll have...

I absolutely LOVE to listen to Adriano Celentano´s songs! 

Call me old. But I´m still fascinated I can have the music on my PC with no sound in the living room and via wireless on BOSE as loud as I want in the kitchen without disturbing neighbors!

"Amazing", great, and what a joy.

In my back sits an old-fashioned record player (and even that has WiFi!).

 

Oh, watercolors are such fun and this time I took the good papers that came along with the colors. Such a difference!

Sadly only 8 papers. I need to visit the castle´s art-shop soon to buy more. It really makes a difference.

 

No shadows on purpose btw, the peppers are the stars "just like that". 

 

I also met my silent furry neighbor again:

 

 

Sadly this time he was not into a belly-rub and walked off.

Funny, btw, I also found these:

 

 

I was in a hurry when I saw this in the street near Black Beauty, only took a pic, needed to do grocery shopping and on the way back forgot about it already!

All the way TO I thought, I want two! But where to put them??? Do I need this???

So clever, you put the egg in the middle and the snacks around.

And, scary, I saw just that principle on TV!!!

I went back and they were gone.

And when I had a closer look on my pic. It´s but two separate plates...

 

This is anyhows clever recycling, but with a pic I cannot join Bleubeard and Elizabeth with recycling... How about this then?

 

 

I am lucky I can buy nice tissue holders, they are made from cardboards - I recycle them for other stuff like the loads of tablets Ingo has to take each day (thankfully we have that medicine, right!!!!)

Pic only since I did not want to ruin Ingo´s scanner with the wax-color-pencils...

They are all around, used for other stuff, and I hence forgot to mention them! Gack!
