The Beach Food

So, Pentecost is over. It sure was a little vacation, and needed, too.
With a sauce from the other side of the world, bought in a T-Shirt of this city, we started off on Saturday. Some BBQs sure waited for us.

But also our bikes – a weather like that sure is kind of a wonderful pressie!

Isn´t this kinda arty? Fresh flowers and the old, rusty bridge….
We sure did some kilometers and ended the first tour in Hermanns.
The second tour lead us on a playground:
The weirdest thing happened: A little boy came by, all alone, and wanted to join! We´re total strangers, how can that be?

So, Ingo grabbed the little man and placed him in front of me. The kiddo leant on me as if he knew me.

No idea if so much faith into strangers is healthy these days?

But maybe kids sense more than adults? And we sure don´t look like weird killers ;-)
On we went to Castle Richmont, or rather it´s little pavilion….
We then went to the south lake, so idyllic:
And then climbed a little “mountain” on the push-bikes!

First thing you see when you arrive… the local brewery (Wolters).
Hungry like wolves we went to the Okercabana.
Quite reasonable prices:
So a Currywurst Pommes it was, despite the fact that I had only 5 instead of 6 euros. The guy at the counter let me get away with it, I do look like I bring the plate back :-)
Man so-so yummy and enough for two! With Ketchup and Mayonnaise :-)
Aw, so good to feel some sand under your feet!
Yep, I was there, too, here´s a proof :-)
They really make this place special, must invite Bro + family, bet the little one would have fun here!
And with a warning like this:
It should definitively be clean :-)

Aw, two places we sure love:
The next day we chose another beach, high above the houses of town, only 8 steps to go:
Awww….
Then home for another BBQ:
Following day…
Yikes, this looks like snow!
Of that, I really have seen enough for a lifetime!

Since Hermans was closed, we went to chill out at the Sonnendeck again.
Had a Beck´s …
… relaxed…
… and enjoyed the good music up there.
Was a great weekend, thank you, Ingo, for coming up with such great tours!

Addendum... Oh, great. Blogger now only shows the small pics? Getting better every day :-(
Sorry...

Does This Make Sense?

Yesterday was a very, very bad day for Bro and I.
I just have to write it down, it helps me process, no idea if I will hit the publish-button or just leave it unseen in blogger.

Our Mum was never the tidy type.
With the years passing and our Dad passing away, too, it got worse.
Bro and I thought it´s depression, we went to a counselor, we talked openly with our Mum, I wrote a hand-written letter but she refused any help from outside.
“Messie” came to mind, you call it Compulsive hoarding, but it didn´t come close enough to do research.

Maybe you just don´t want your Mother and that word/phrase in one sentence (I´ll refer to "messie" cause it's stuck in my mind).

There was one room in the old apartment we weren´t allowed to enter.
Ironically it was my room when I was a kid and later my Bro´s.

I had the coolest bed ever and sadly I never saw anything like it again.
It was a firetruck:
The rear hold the wardrobe/closet, the „door“ on the free side in the middle the linen cupboard.
From the driver´s bench on the other side you had storage. Instead of steering wheel and all you had a table to do your homework, storage in front. There was more storage under the engine hood.
On top was the bed with storage room for clock, glasses, books.
Sadly there is not one pic! It was cool and such a great concept!

Over the years the same dream came to me from time to time. I stand in front of the engine hood, open it and it is full – but I can not see of what.

Well. I must´ve entered that “forbidden” room once, years ago.

This part of the “bed” was still there, the engine hood. It lay on the side and was full of junk.
As was the rest of the room, I won´t go into details. I don´t need to, they´re burnt into my memory.

Some parts still make no sense to me. But I´ll hear eventually from Bro if he took over that truck. If so, it makes sense, if not we will never know how it got back there.

Anyhows, I was a mess this morning, couldn´t think at all, had trouble concentrating on the job and my stomach did hurt.
I start my job early, for over an hour I´m alone in the office, usually working up the stuff that came in late the day before.
I just couldn´t, so I decided to write Bro a mail, asking how he was today, what I found made no sense yesterday. My thoughts get structured better this way. If we´d seen each other I would very likely just have cried.

I wondered why she did this, was it a cry for help? But how if she didn´t want us in that room? Was it to make us feel guilty?

We´d also found so so many new stuff, still originally packed, unopened, it all made no sense.

So I concluded she´d bought that new stuff to make up for not meeting with the few friends she had left.
It were only few because she never made the first move, never invited anyone.
And maybe because they were new and shiny, the things she brought in.

...

Or she maybe was a “mild Messie” who can concentrate the illness on one room?
There are so many varieties in Autism, so why not in this illness?
I googled it (I have worked through many a lunch break, so I reckon this is ok)

A "mess" in German is “Unordnung”, disorder. This German link helped me open my eyes.

The author describes

- In normal life you cannot see if a person is a messie. They´re well-dressed, clean.
- Some just cannot get rid of the stuff that comes in daily life and has to go to the bin (this is it, mainly)
- Other illnesses usually come along (depression, cancer)
- Messies act compulsively contrary “I did NOT!” (so true)
- In other areas in life they are perfect (again, so true, she was great in her job)
- The cause usually is excessively instructional strictness and violence in the first year of life (WW ll, escape from East Prussia to Germany)
- When the parents were not able to care for their kids due to war, sickness or else
- They often suffer of depression, but can be very accurate and successful in their job - They don´t like being home, prefer to go shopping instead (true)
- As child as well as in the rest of their lives this behavior helps prevent bad feelings

So. It wasn´t our fault, it wasn´t her fault. If we see this as an illness, it´s nobody´s fault. I feel a bit better.
I´m no doctor, but now the brand new stuff and the way the apartment looks do make sense, just like the pic above, or this one:
Bro talked me into trying a Doner-Pizza. It was dang yummy, it absolutely makes sense to mix Doner and Pizza.

I visited Niece afterwards for about 45 minutes and she was so cute, she so helps through times like these.
She has a (pink!) mini-vacuum cleaner (so clichee, huh?) that really works and again and again I had to empty it and turn it on, together we looked for missing pieces. Then it was time for her dinner. With one hand she reached for her Mum, with the other for me, then decided for Daddy instead of Mum.

No idea if she could sense that Bro and I just went through something terrible together?

Certainly my colleagues saw something was wrong with me today. One even offered me licorice, he knows I don´t like sweets.
I´m really thankful I can work with these people. My “boss” and friend said I could go home if I want to.

And she wrote: “From my point of view, your Mother was lead into death very safe and secure, with a lot of care and warmth through the two of you. That is a huge antipole.”

Dare Eat A Lion

Bread we got at our usual bakery – made with Löwenzahn - dandelion. You just have to try it when the time is ripe for that stuff – especially when you live here ;-)

Wanna join me on a walk to the shopping Centre?

It´s all lush and green now over here:
Funny how the whole tree is covered, no? Down to the ground!
People sure do care about this town – isn´t that sign for Amalienstr. 1 just cute?
So, this is the way to the “mall” White Horse, no idea why the name… but it leads us right next by river Oker:
Idyllic, no? The river itself looks kinda arty here, I think:
Here is the need for big houses to stuff in people, but they at least try to make it look nice by using bright colors and providing green areas:
In the mall we got hungry. This is the bakery:
Yep, a pic of our Henry the Lion – you find him in the heart of our city. And what did we find to eat?

Boy, the people here are so proud of their town, it´s cute (and yes, we´re two of them) – and yummy too:
A breadroll that is a Lion´s head! (See? The title made sense after all…)

We also found a Tiger in the mall:
Ok. It´s just zwieback/rusk made look nice by using Janosch`s stripey Tiger-Duck. (Link is truly worth a look an d all pics you can enlarge) And no, I didn´t go for it.

At first I was willing to – last Thursday I gave Niece a night-light with the Duck kissing her friend the Frog.

But Niece eats all the time anyway! So, I thought I´ll bring her a Janosch-book tomorrow (but it´s from ages 3+ ... (I really have to learn what she can do when!)).
The book is about the Tiger (owner of the Tiger-Duck) and his friend, the Bear getting lots of visitors by chance. It comes with a “real” doorbell, guess time comes she´s gonna like it.

After all…. They make dinner for everyone ;-)

(Janosch is very popular here. His books even are translated to English to encourage kids to learn.)

Being here like that also means asparagus from this region is offered (and taken by Ingo):
Sadly this is not the rule. Most products come from far away, like milk from Southern Germany. But this huge food-chain is trying to get local where possible, I really do like that.

Ingo with a – by pure chance – green shopping-bag:
And this was on the way home, too:
People are getting sick of others letting their dogs poo in these places and don´t take it away afterwards, so they fenced the place (they put the flowers there privately and care for them, too).
But still they show a sense of humor – or diplomacy?
The sign says "No dog-loo!".

I hope you enjoyed a little “walk” around here.

That´s Us

I was looking for Niece´s name, Ingo found these two stuck together :-)
Us.
We didn´t buy them, too cheap-looking.

A short week ahead!
We both have Friday off, yay!
Mind you, 18 years we´re together then! Tme so runs!

Happy Monday everyone!

I Wish You Luck

It´s kinda ironic. I could´ve found this Thursday in two weeks, when I will likely help Bro again with the house.
But I found it last Thursday:
This was a poem for Mother´s Day I copied down in grade three.

See... even back then my face turned dumb when a camera came to view ;-)

I can´t remember if I was able to pick one or if we all had to do the same.
But it fits it´s about a bouquet of sweet woodruff. It comes in green and white which is described as "humble", that´s what our parents told us to be, sadly, I have to say.
I still have difficulties to stand up for myself.

"I wish you, Mother, lots of luck", it ends.

Well.
Bet Bro will lay down some flowers on your grave today, Mum.
I´m sad you´re gone.

In this signature below my name isn´t shown as my Dad chose it, as the colorful part of the eye, but this is the flower.
Last Thursday I found - already dried - seeds of that flower in my Mum´s place.
She wanted to plant them.
Life just sucks at times.
