That´s the name of the house (german) we lived in in our little holidays at the sea. A house just for the two of us! A tiny, sweet, little house at the end of the little village Accum.
Here is the view out of the bedroom-window:
Here is another view out of the bedroom – geez, took some time til I had learned to climb those stairs! The older I get the more I suffer from vertigo...
Wilhelmshaven (german) was our destination, we´ve been there some years ago, it´s a town of around 83 000 people, but has a charm of it´s own and is right at the sea – I just love the sea (even more so I love my town, though).
One of the town's landmarks is the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Bridge, it was once Europe's biggest swing bridge.
Even the benches have the trademark:
We went to Oceanis (german) a little museum with 4-D-show on the theme "sea" (big surprise, huh? ;-)...) Here you see Ingo "in" a game:
We went (yet again) to the marine museum (german) – I really do wonder what makes men (and women!) do service on such vessels?! Money? You have no space there, it´s plain awful! What happens if you have a bad dream and try to sit in bed? DANG!
The bridge again, right: German flag, the EM was still on ;-)
The sea!
Calm, but at least: The sea!
Sat down for a sec at the promenade:
Freedom, that´s the word I hear when I see this:
We also went to Jever (german), where the famous beer comes from.
"Jede Kiste schuetzt die Kueste" – "Every crate safes the coast" – have a beer!
Ummm.... Wilhelmshaven – art?
Certainly we went to Bullermeck (german) to meet Paul, Piet and Ole:
And other marine-life-forms:
And, certainly!!! Sheep! On the banks, oh, I love that view, too!
Ingo had heaps of seafood and we had a lot of fun!
So, the funeral is over. And I learned that the Grandmother was catholic, never thought so! It was just the close family.
I also went to my father´s grave. Still hurts a lot.
We all had dinner at Ingo´s parent´s house, in the afternoon went to my family, Ingo gets new glasses now, I got my Mom´s bike. She said it´s dark-red. It was blue, seems like curse will never end! And certainly I ordered a ten without ham at Nico! YUM!
I go out to work on Monday morning Tuesday I go off to honeymoon Ill be back again before it´s time for sunnydown I´ll be lazing on a Sunday afternoon Bicycling on every Wednesday evening Thursday I go waltzing to the zoo I come from London town I´m just an ordinary guy Fridays I go painting in the Louvre I´m bound to be proposing on a Saturday night There he goes again Ill be lazing on a Sunday lazing on a Sunday Lazing on a Sunday afternoon
One of my sunflowers:
The tin-Gerbera (see last post (before last post)):
The Jolly Roger-flag that hides our "walk-in closet" got company!
This pirate sailing vessel actually is a stunt kite Ingo bought in our short holidays. Maybe some time he´ll let it fly - so long it makes our bedroom a bit more... stylish?
So the tin-flowers really grew, at least three of them, basil, gerbera and a wee bit parsley.
Today I planted them into real earth and will see how they´re doing.
I was astonished, though, to find out in what they have been growing so far, at least the gerbera – looks like gold:
Am I rich now????
I went to the city yesterday.
Actually I didn´t want to go into the book-store. But then I did. And spent a lot of money.
Yes. They are all Braunschweig-related! The first is 7 tours through the ring-area - where I live - I mean, you gotta know where you live, right? It tells the historical stories of the houses that were and are here. I think it will be quite interesting. "AnsichtsKarten" - arty pics with short, arty text - I love it. Details - some I have registered, some not - so far. Again another lesson in run around with your eyes wide open!
Last year we were the city of science. Too sad the marketing was sometimes just bad! Only now I learned about the groundhog!!! The scientists did some brain-storming in 2006 on how to get science to the people. They ended up with one short, funny article every day and wanted to name it "And daily science is greeting". The hilarious film "Groundhog Day", which I really do love and could watch over and over... ummm... ok. In german it´s called "And daily the groundhog greets" - hence they went for the groundhog.
The archive is still here (german), very well done, but I´m glad to have it as a real book, too and will learn a lot in tiny bits and pieces.
I purchased a map of the Oker (german), that flows through town and shows the city from another angle. You can use floats, which we did only once so far. Was fun.
There are also night-tours available where authors read thrillers - the sceneries take place in this town. I wanna do that, despite it´s quite expensive.
So far I purchased hence, "The Lion Shows It´s Teeth", with commissioner Lion and his assistant Ms Tooth revealing the murderers. All stories take place here and I think it´s just fun to read and have the place right in front of your inner eye! I´m usually not into thrillers so this is another first.
One has poems and last not least a regional cookbook on CD.
Recipes are on asparagus, beer-soups (!!!), curly kale or green cabbage, which is called brown cabbage here – it tastes best if you cook it really long, with heaps of butter and reheat it the next day. The green fades but the taste is – on cold winter-days – just great. It is often served with "Braegenwurst" or "Bregenwurst" where bregen in former days really was brain, eek. Thanks to BSE it is made without brain. Brain or not I never did try it. And certainly many recipes with Mumme (german - you can use blogger-search to find something in english about it here) involved.
Sadly I can only read one out of three .pdf-books...
I can´t read old German:
I also have a new pet, kinda:
Notice the holes for breathing? :-)
Here he is, I´ll call him weasel, cause he´s a weasel:
I know I´m too old for this. But I saw the cute thing so often in action and thought, awww, cute!
Ingo is very sick again at the moment. Hopefully he recovers enough to attend the funeral on Monday. Darn it, suppose it was sausages that caused the pain – sausages he had on Wednesday! I hope I don´t have to bring him back to hospital.
Sarah from "This is what Sed said"-blog has honoured me with the Arte y Pico Award!
Ok, now I don´t speak any spanish! Arte, that´s clear to me, but pico? The top? This guy suggests it may mean "What a hot guy!", cause Pico de gallo is a spicy food. He found a blogger who thinks the award was created to be given to bloggers who inspire others with their creative energy and their talents.
Am I arty? Well, it´s definitively hot here! ;-) No, really, over 30 °C! Either way, thank you, Sarah!
So, here I go, following the rules!
The rules for passing this honour on:
1 - Pick 5 blogs that you would like to award this honour to.
2 - Each award has to have the name of the author and also a link to his or her blog to be visited by everyone.
3 - Each award winner has to show the award and put the name and link to the blog that has given her or him the award itself.
4 - Award-winner and the one who has given the prize have to show the link of “Arte y Pico” blog, so everyone will know the origin of this award.
Go to the Arte y Pico blog if you'd like to know more about this award.
Ok, here we go:
Wendy from Flowers in her eyes – for always trying to see the positive things in people, for never giving up – and certainly also for the great, arty pics!
Java from The Cappuchino Strip - for braveness, which inspires me. From the little I learned, she makes her way and takes risks to get the result she´s searching for - and gets rewarded, too!
The Muriels - they fought to reach their goal and were given the joy of life in form of their little daughter. They share the joyful parts and help people learn and get more sensitive to their story. They keep on fighting, too!
Red Dirt Mummy - food is art, too, right? Definitively yes, I´d say, YUM! And slowly even I discover that kind of art! Her creativity goes certainly beyond that and she has a good sense of humour, too.
Barbara from Writing from the Inside Out - she has a very wide range of topics, doesn´t fear to talk about the difficult things in life and makes me thinking often, too. Art? Music!
Ingo´s Grandma gave me 50 euro as a birthday gift with the plea to buy something nice for me. Really for me. To not put it in the purse and buy everyday-stuff like bread and milk.
And to show her the treasure. Well. She didn´t call it treasure! Not at all!
But I couldn´t find anything worthy enough.
Now here I sit with the 50 bucks still in the white envelope.
After she came to the old people's home, was sad, found friends from the old days, she recovered quickly.
Just 1 1/2 weeks ago she went to my brother (who is an optometrist) to get new glasses. She started knitting again!
All is good, we thought.
We went on holidays (well, holidays... Ingo is still sick. But maybe I come to the good parts later). Saturday we went back home, ran errands went to see "our" team play and win yet again in American Football, came back home at around 10:30. Several calls on the mobile (it´s too loud at the games, so we left them behind, very immobile).
Grandma is in hospital, situation very serious.
We got a phone call Sunday morning that it´s ok to come and visit her. So we went. First time in ages (years, really) I was in Ingo´s parents´ house. Went to the hospital. There she was. Even morphine couldn´t make her painless. She never woke up. I feared I have to say good-bye to her and she can´t even hear me.
She passed away yesterday.
Never again will there be her, getting a very joyful face when recognizing us and exclaiming, "my children!!!", with all the three of us knowing it´s grandchildren.
She said it gleefully and with a content undertone,
"my children!!!".
I could have given her a very happy moment, maybe by just showing her something I love, pretending to have been bought from her birthday-money. Or maybe she would´ve seen through me anyway. And be sad I tried to lie. May I did it right after all.
Just. That she possibly thought I just took the money and forgot? No...?
She never let me take a pic of her. And I did respect that. So I can´t even show you how she looked like. We had a rather rough start. But we came around great then. I miss her.
Monday we will attend the funeral. She was a modern woman with her 89 years. No trouble for her family to care for a grave. She didn´t want that. Just like my Grandma, who passed away 7 years ago.
