As mentioned another company will take most our jobs.
Usually their door is closed - a statement, huh? “We´re not friends” – our doors are always wide open.
This morning – I´m first in the office - theirs was open, though, and I thought, what is that noise?
I peeked inside, they had their computers running (hello – still gotta learn the customer´s rules, huh?).
And what did I see?
Name tags on the tables, like in primary school (I´m not allowed to take pics here).
Name tags! I mean… there are but three people sitting in there and they need name tags? They wanna take our jobs – takes a bit more than internalizing three names to do that and no, I saw never visitors in their rooms, who´d take advantage of that so far. Does this make sense?
Aw, well. Let´s see how it all goes (down the drain).
After all those rainy days it was misty this morning and now the sun is out and about – another wonderful summer day!
Off to the city I say! :-)
My name is Iris, btw… (still can´t get over this! And certainly with the family name, too. Guess they say Mr X, Mr Y and Mr Z to each other, how formal are we?! And just to make sure their company name is in the name tag as well).

Brave?
Eugene Cernan is on TV.
I read his book "The Last Man On The Moon" and now have the pics.
Amazing.
Give me a ticket to the moon - I wouldn´t take it, chicken-me. And imagine... back then! Poor family and friends full of fear? And-or pride?
Would you be so brave and take the chance... today or even back then?
Eugene Cernan was the fastest man on the moon, too, btw, in the car.
He went at 18,9 km/h, 0,3 km/h faster than they went on the first car race on earth on June 22nd in 1894 from Paris to Rouen - German details see here.
Aww, Rouen... a near-to-be-love-Thoma(s) at age 14... Wonder where he´s now? He started studying medicine back then (he was 18).
The bravest I came up with so far was the Australian Outback - and I won´t go further!
Still, a great book, "The Last Man On The Moon" - scientifically, humorous, honest and very well written. Written by a very brave man.

Refound Plans?
Just found some pics of my old work back then, we took them to scan them and present them as "website" - on cd! Internet was expensive and slow.
I put the site together in dreamweaver, oh the olden days!
Each pic came with the instruction to click to enlarge, but mind you, some secretary had printed out the previews for their bosses!
That way I certainly didn´t get a job (luckily, in the aftermath).
They put the prints in an envelope and sent them back to me - happened more than once!
What I also found were these:
I just loved figure/nude drawing - freedom after all the very precise work.
The smell in the drawing room, the different kind of concentration, it had it´s own charme for sure.
Different materials and always quick, quick, quick - after all you are to learn how people fit into rooms in an instant.
Sometimes we had to do stuff like looking at the person for three minutes closely, than close your eyes and draw.
Easiest was the highly pregnant woman, all the curves, the pen just flows. Difficult were thin people.
I always said, if I end up in a city with a university, I ask if I may attend figure drawing - but I never did.
Maybe when I´ve retired ;-)
Though I guess I´d start at zero. Even writing a postcard is difficult - when ever do you use a pen, not a keyboard?!

Best Man
Sorry for the blurry pic - dunno what went wrong, but this is all I got and it´s good enough for the gesture - for me.
Ingo was about making our food for tomorrow - I don´t like butter much, hence he put down just a tiny bit (bread to the left) :-)
He usually refuses to do that!
I defrosted one of my Aldi-truffle-butters, though, which he didn´t know:
So... he added butter and took it for himself, but, awww, sweet, no?
I was nearly 5 years old, and - believe it or not - the doc sent me away to gain weight (how bitter is that now ;-)...)
There was a boy who was supposed to loose weight.
We swapped food - I hate thick butter! None of us lost or gained weight but we were happy.
Well, as happy as you can be being sent away.
I was the only of three kids that got no birthday-pressie from home because my parents stuck to the rules.
And I was the only kid left alone being back in Hannover cause my parent´s car broke down.
Bad, very bad memories.
Ingo just made it OK, huh?
(And I got truffle-butter again, hmmm...)
B. Zibner
I picked my clothes for tomorrow.
By chance this one - the clothes hanger is from my Mum.
From her time in Helgoland, I suppose, even before she met my Dad.
It made me smile and cry at the same time and no, I cannot give away her first name - it´s part of Ingo´s password for something. I don´t even know for what, but I was very surprised to learn.
He loved my Mum as well.
I miss her dearly right now.
Weather is great, another BBQ it´ll be. To Mum (Niece knows she´s "up there").

We´re Krauts
It´s hot-hot-hot - summer, yay, BBQ-time!
Germans are - according to Americans - good in making potatoe-salad, still we had Kraut-Salad.
I also went to the kitchen (green chamber) to get two old potatoes to put in (first):
Hmmmm... we had TONS (well like really, really heaps) throughout our journeys throughout Australia - sweet, sweet memory and nearly as yum!
I´ll never forget Yuraygir NP in 1995 with NVT 115:
Well, this was Broome, this is Yuraygir:
The bird-life, oh, my.... to us Germans... unbelievable, awesome. I´ll never forget and often think of the sounds.
And the ranger.... oh-by-golly! He really looked like the guy in the movie "Psycho", Norman Bates, I kid you not!
And he brought us the best wood to make potatoes, daily!
Hmmmm... I never had so many - yummy(est) - potatoes in my life!
Memories - do they come back to you by little things like potatoes, too?
Oh, how do I miss this freedom of travelling!

My Doc Is On Holiday
Found this hilarious pic and had to get it printed out, so we went to the city. Well actually because also...
2010 it started either due to my own stupidity (who hops on the push-bike in minus-temps and drives as fast as can, too?!) or it was a virus, the doc I went to couldn´t say, but I got a conjunctivitis.
She gave me a med my eyes didn´t tolerate, it was a long story with weeks on and off the job and hurting eyes.
Wednesday my eyes were red. Oh-oh.
Tuesday it was warm and very humid, my eyes weren´t dry at all, seemingly. And hence I used near to no eye-drops.
Was that the reason or did I touch something someone with a virus had touched and off we go again?
(I am very careful)
So off to the city it was on Thursday – Friday at the doc they close at lunchtime and I work in Wolfsburg, then weekend...
I know what med I need and hoped they´d just give me a receipt for just in case.
No. You have to see the doc. But yours is on holiday.
Noooooooo…. (to both).
Mind you, I wasted hours of my life in the waiting area there – with appointment. And my doc knows my “story”, right?
Ingo left to grab some food and I sat down. For about 7 minutes.
Then visual test.
Waiting for about 15 minutes, in to the doc, a young Indian with a strong accent.
He had my file open, said, gosh, since 2010?!, examined my eyes very closely, had a test on virus even (new?) – all good, no conjunctivitis, just extremely dry eyes.
He asked me to show him what I take, opened a drawer, took out 3 samples, said, I tested these, they´re good, try them.
Me: I get that at the pharmacy?
Yes, but they´re expensive …
I know….
He turned to a box, gave me another big bunch of samples of another product and smiled big.
I was out in about 30 minutes all in all, knowing my eyes are ok, thanking the staff there big :-)
And I won´t need to buy anything for my eyes for months – and I guess I´ll try to get him, be there a next time (sorry, Dr. L)!
Sometimes you´re just lucky, huh?
Thank you, wet Tuesday!
