I have to admit I never saw The Nutcracker and to be honest, I don´t plan to.
But there is a story to this sign.
Ingo´s "Baby-Brother", now a radiologist, who saved Ingo´s life in 2008 (this is no joke)... well, when he was around 3 years old his parents had a nut cracker.
Brother put his finger in the mouth and with the other hand pushed down the lever - OUTCH!!
Not understanding how it works he pushed even more... BIG OUTCH!
He was crying in despair when he was finally found.
He always called that thing a "Nacker" and from that day on when he was going to do something nasty he was told, "if you do that, the Nacker will come".
I also have a book on how to make kids do what you want, it´s called "buckle up or a unicorn will die".
Maybe that works?
My Nieces always buckle up, to them it´s a ritual, but I think sometimes you are allowed to "cheat" to make the kid do the right thing, don´t you (and this is why I have no kids!).

Never seen the Nutcracker either. That is one piece of cutlery that is only used at Christmas time when I buy nuts in their shell :)

Yes, sadly I have no idea anymore where the lion was from.
...you know that we are approaching the Christmas season when they begin to advertise the Nutcracker, what classic. We have a few nutcrackers that our youngest grandchildren love to play with. Thanks Iris for starting the Christmas season for us.
Tom, playing is not a good idea, is it? But hopefully kids these days know how a Nacker works :-)
I think you do whatever you have to do to make a kid do the right thing! Well, within reason, but still...
The story is delightful in sort of a painful way! How we learn life's lessons!
I've never been to Nutcracker live but I like the music and now and then it's on TV. A good story -- but not, I think, with as many lessons as yours!
I never, I admit, even heard the music.
My Dad tried to force me into classical music, which made it a pain hence - he even lied about music to me when I was little.
Later, when studying I had a CD (yes, that long ago) with Pavarotti and it got SO stuck in my ear at night, I had to go and even take out the batteries of the player - and still my brain played the music!
But every time I see a Nacker I think of my BIL :-)

I think the music itself I'd go for more.
I could imagine the pain that he felt, a really big OUCH. I never saw the Nutcracker either.

Lois, I thought I´m a "bad" for not having seeing it, feels "good" to learn many did not, either!
The Nutcracker is such a traditional Christmas ballet, I've seen it so many times mainly because three of my nieces are or were ballet dancers and the Nutcracker was often the theme for Christmas concerts.. it's really very good ✨

I have never seen The Nutcracker ballet either. I have four children and when they were little, sometimes the cheating was necessary to get the right thing done. I remember one time my daughter didn't want to wash her hands, so I said Okay just put them in the water and play with the suds for a minute. Result: clean hands, happy child, happy mum.
