Learn To Drive

It´s over 5 years now that I gave my car back to the company.
I have one neighbor who sold his car ages ago and when he needed to drive after several years he took driving lessons.
I hope I don´t have to, ever.

ESE accepts that I don´t want to drive, this is so wonderful.
I am so thankful the student at Siemens gave me the idea to blindly apply at ESE!

How about you, yay or nay to driving?
Before the accident I liked to drive, I was into pooling, always took 2 colleagues with me even.
I had once a car from a colleague who had to leave the company due to cheating - a Bora TDI - very cool.
I wanted to test how fast the car can go, said, if one of you gets frightened, say so, I break it off. I at 180 km/h / 112 mph broke it off myself. By golly that is too fast for a reaction if something happens...

Why the test with two people on board?
I was allowed only to and fro work and take the colleagues - my boss payed for everything that way! Even gas!
That was the boss who said I am stupid to read Rudy Rucker´s "Fourth Dimension" in my holiday, LOL (he is a mathematician). I am to relax!
Darn it, I read it twice but my brain cannot comprehend the sphere-theory.
I´m like Homer Simpson when he entered the 3-D-world!

... in the 3rd dimension, too.

This is for Tom´s Signs2.
(in the Outback I would still love to drive).
P.S. SUMMER - YAY.

Melons = SUMMER πŸ‰πŸ‰πŸ‰
P.S. ... longest day - means the dark half of the year sneaks at us... buhuuu...

There is nothing close to where I live. Even the bank is a mile away. And unlike you, Iris, I refuse to walk in 100 F (37.78 C) heat for even six blocks, much less a mile. Driving is the only option for me.

I learnt how to drive. And I drove my 2CV for ten years. But then my eldest son was born. And after a few months I went for a long drive with him laying in his stroller in the back seat. He was crying a lot that day. It made me nervous and I never drove again. Once I took a few lessons and the teacher said I was doing great and I was perfectly able to drive, but I never did.

Elizabeth, oh! I walk 3 minutes to the next grocery, post office 10, city 20... my bank, though is in Frankfurt, some300 km away...

Bertiebo, awww, 2CV! Was it green? When you see a green one, pinch someone and make a wish :-)
If not necessary, why drive, right.

I know how to drive, I'm even good at it, but I do not like it. When our car broke down some years ago we just did not get a new one. We have bikes, buses, and trains - and taxis. Not having a car allows us to take a taxi a bit more than once a week (we don't) as cars are massively expensive in Denmark as compared to Germany.
When we moved to Germany, we got a car, we used it for a year, me driving ;) and we took the car with us to Denmark. To have Danish licence plates on this car cost us 1½ times ALL expenses for having and using the car in Germany for a year (2 times licence plates even).
I only miss a car very seldom. When getting something heavy, when I have to be somewhere at stupid times of day or when the bus home leaves as the train enters our local train station (happens too often!)

Wow, I had no idea it´s more expensive in Denmark.
Unfair to those who need it!
Take Ingo,he works with heavy machinery, hence he has to drive to Salzgitter every working day (and back, of course). Bus /train would take forever.
One should really differ between driving for fun or cause you have to do your living...
My Brother could easily take his push-bike yet is too lazy and takes the car for those few kilometers...

If you use your car for work, you get a tax reduction per kkilometre. But cars are still expensive to buy and register.

I drive all the time in the city. I don't like being a passenger and do walk most places that I go to.

Absolutely NOTHING is close to me. I've been driving since I was 14, uhhhh 57 years and I wouldn't give up driving for anything. Each to their own, right? Have a nice day, Iris.

David is my chauffeur.

I sold my truck nine years ago and haven't drove since. The bus handles that now. Summer has finally arrived!

Iris Flavia said...

Christine, sadly that doesn´t help when others crash into you. Or a tyre blows up or....

RedPat, luckily I can walk to the city!
And work from home.

I love driving. I love to get on the road and see what I can find. Where I live is rural and the nearest market is a 20 minute drive, so I don't think I could walk there and back with groceries before anything cold would be warm. I know after an accident it might be scary though. Hope it was a super day 1 of summer. hugs-Erika

Iris Flavia said...

Padre... you have a good eye :-) Cheers to that!

Erika, I used to love it, too. But not in Germany anymore. Cars get faster and faster and here you are allowed at parts "limitless", too dangerous.
YES, yesterday was great, hope you enjoyed it, too! Hugs

I don't drive, I know I wuld be too slow and other drivers would get angry at me, and with reaction times I would be slow too, so I take the bus, the tram, the train or I walk.

I don't have any problem to drive but for all the services in the city I use the e-bike.
However Henry is right: walking is not so bad!
