Heritage ...

(I mean... a gate for... what? A ladder to nowhere?...)

What is our "Heritage" - oh, you could talk about this endlessly - and in so many ways, positive... and too many negative sides turn up.

I do not have children (it was my choice, I would not have been a good Mum). I have Nieces, though, and, technically, also nephews (Ingo´s Bro´s, two boys, one an adult already!!! And two more girls, too.).

This is what you see when you walk up Howard Street in Perth to the "real" CBD, as I did on March 1st on my own. You´ll also find this:

Howard Chambers.
They say Heritage is about the things from the past which are valued enough today to save for tomorrow..

Wise words, please, if you care, have a look here for more wisdom:
What is Heritage?.

What is your heritage?
As you can guess mine is not "fine" - I am only half-German, though, and my German Grandfather (who died when my Dad was 14) never served as a soldier.
Time might tell.
He was the only watch-maker in town and now I live in Braunschweig, the city that "makes" the time for Europe with it´s atomic "clock" (and much more)...

(More beauty is to come)

Life... isn´t simply this "heritage"?
How my big Niece laughed so silly and loud about... I don´t even know what I told her, it was something she did as a toddler.
Her lille Sis came running from Grandpa to ask what is so funny?
If my heritage is humour I´m happy.
(Even if, not even hitting 50, I have no real idea what I´d said back in last August!)

Love Me Some Rain, Me

Especially the summer one!

I was about calling you Perthies, but you were sound asleep (I reckon? No, "we" have some night owls, right).

In your honour, I had a lille smell of Eucalyptus! :-)

:-)

I miss you...

Let´s Swirl?

Mural again taken in Leederville in some narrow alley.

The artist is Robert Jenkins - you find many a mural from him around.
It was a tad difficult to capture, but here goes a better one, I love the funny style:

Life sometimes rushes by and we should probably just let it happen?

That´s at least what I read into it, how about you?

Taking part again in Sami´s COLOURFULWORLD Monday Murals.

Did You Know?

I´m reading a "Lesebuch", the second Braunschweig Lesebuch, to be exact. "Literate" texts.
One of them is "Plan B".

There are some records this town comes along with.
I knew that darn soccer was first played in Braunschweig, when it comes to soccer in Germany.
As nice an effect as that a certain small Austrian man became German here and did a lot of bad to the world.

"We" also have the most accurate Optical Atomic Clocks with Perfect Excitation and the oldest double burial in German ground and also... this is really a bit weird, the biggest churchly graveyeard of Germany.

And the biggest Quadriga of Europe - we really need to visit her (you can walk up all the way and have a good look over the city).
I think, or do we? The author decribes it like this:
You find yourself standing right under medicine ball-sized horse-testicles. Hmmm, do I want that? ;-)
Shoot. Will I be able to see something else?!

The author also says, Braunschweig is known to be "denying", Braunschweig people are said to be unfriendly.
But that it´s not true. And he´s right.

When I came here in my Mum´s car... waaay back then, pre-smart-phones and such, I stopped and took a paper-map to find my way.
No, I could not do that, because: A woman knocked at the window, asked if I needed some help.

And I knew I was home :-)

(In Germany you have your city in the the number plate, I had "GS" for Goslar, but I think even if I had "BS" for Braunschweig the lady would´ve stopped to help.)

This is my home. I feel like a stranger going back to the town I grew up in. Where I know nearly no-one anymore.

How about you, if you moved, do you still have feelings for your first home, are there people you still know?

The author read we are a "B-City". A metropolis, but not as "cool" or "hip" as Berlin (I don´t like Berlin), Cologne (love!), Stuttgart (really?!), Frankfurt...
But he also says Braunschweig is a city that seems to be made just for you, re-arranged like....

... "The Truman Show", now this reminds me of Joondalup and movies like "Gone with the Wind" and "Lost in Translation"!

Off to have a look at those testicles as soon as we have a very clear sky ;-)

Lion of the day:

See, everybody loves him :-)

Back To The City

From Elizabeth Quay I walked back to the City of Perth via Howard Street on March 1st this year.
All those glass facades allow to see both, old and new architecture in one, I like this.

I certainly also passed by sculpture "JUDITH".

Judith Fyfe lived with her family in the same house as the artist and her parents allowed the nine-yearold girl to sit for her.
She was made of clay, in the midst of the great depression, to which WWII added.
The sculpture was cast in bronze and exhibited in several places before moving finally "home".
When she was unveiled there was lots of protest - a young, naked girl like that in public! There were outcries like "Think of the Children!" - maybe that´s where The Simpsons took it from? ;-)
Please note that the description is also added in Braille.

I leave you with another facade in facade...

As you can guess... the street does not end here...

THE Question

I have no idea what this is all about, must be a soccer-thing, I guess. (Or horses indeed, you find both here...)
This question sure is as crazy as that way too loud "sport", soccer....

"Way too loud", you might ask?
In soccer there is no music, like in football, so why loud?

It´s the "fans".
And I feel sorry for the real fans, so let´s say it´s the hooligans.

The season just started again.
I was sitting on the balcony and heard them bawl. Always the same stupid phrase, accompanied by loads of police.
When football season starts there is no such thing!

I remember once there was security. It was a football game Germany > Netherlands.

In soccer this screams trouble, but not in football. By the middle of the game only those security guys who wanted to watch stayed :-)

But soccer, always loads of police, payed by the tax-payer, not the soccer-guys!

Also here... no police needed...

Seems to be a big thing, but I´ve never watched, I think it´s rather boring to watch a horse jump over "sticks" ;-)

Lion of the day:

What does your horse do at night, do you have any idea?
If you have a horse, that is, I do not. I´m not Pippi Longstocking (but I have her calendar and so, indirectly, a horse)...

Let´s Go For A Ride

After I passed Elizabeth Quay Bridge I certainly reached the carousel.
So glad the beauty is a permanent one!

(this one "hides" the Lion of the day, btw :-)...)

Oh, wait, this is not Italy after all, have a look:
