Does She Need To Poop?

... that´s what Ingo blurted out when the cheerleaders began with the girl sitting in the middle like that all the time.

The older couple in front of us turned around and laughed their heads off :-)
Some fans since 1993, a tad longer than us but always there, no matter what!

But from the start.
In order to avoid our arrogant neighbour we got tickets to the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions.

Here´s the new stadion all in blue-yellow due to the local soccer team that made it to first league last year, is back to second league.

Might I add, the Lions are German Bowl defender 8 times, with a 4-peat, too, and Euro Bowl defender twice - so far.

The "pre-game-show" is reduced to merely nothing, very disappointing. Some dudes on stilts:

Some live-music, fun for the kids:

Here you can get your photo taken as football-star:

Their van:

Roarrrr...
And it still says Braunschweig Lions!

Volkswagen was there, too:

With a roofreck, boy, do I have bad memories of that - or maybe it saved our lives, who knows. Roofrecks...
Come a next time we´ll make it better in Australia!

Do you recognise this sweet dude sitting inside?

Can you help me find him on YouTube?

Well, here we go. I admit... videos are not my best thing to do, it starts with (missing here) You ask for power, party and sex appeal ...

Awww, it was so good to be back - despite... well. There used to be around 12 000 visitors. Now we were merely some 4 000. No wonder for no pre-game, no after-game-party, overprized food and 25 euro admission per person for good seats. I kid you not, I started with 5 German mark and you could choose where you wanna sit, just come in early!

On the way to the stadium I was like, OMG I forgot my ear preotection!!!!! Oh NO!

I have no idea if this is a German or a European thing to make noise when the other team is on the field with their defense - I don´t like it!
Luckily of the bunch of people being there only few made noise, so my ears were ok - see the horrible new mascot Hank even encouraging the fans???

But this is the only unfair thing in American Football in Braunschweig, let me show you some more, why I so love this game here.
Here you can see it all, it´s still the very same music for touchdown, after successful field goal, the announcer just giving the first names and the fans screaming the last of the players (I don´t know any of them anymore) - the quietly saying "to zero" after the others lost badly already and certainly "Start me up" for the kick-off:

Mind you, 1999 we stayed the whole night on Perth airport and there was an ad featuring that song.
We were so-so-so tired but nearly got up each time to that song, at least in our minds, cause that´s what you do on gameday!

Berlin was really not lucky, so we gave them some clapping for their kick-offs as well, fairness is what I love about this game:

You´re once a lion, you´re always a lion, songs get a partial make over for this:

We were really lucky with the weather, no?
Love how they all shake hands afterwards, cheerleader included, how the players - both, Braunschweig and Belin clap against their helmets signalizing it was a fun game after all, despite Berlin lost like this, even though the Lions gave them some more than fair chances by not moving for a few seconds...

What´s new btw:

Yes, you´re allowed to join the players on the field!

So sad we don´t know anyone anymore!

The players used to be my age when we went regularly. Now they´re kids ;-)

And yes. I am aware Germany won in soccer.
I saw a dude this morning at 5:40 (drunk) dancing with a German flag. Colleague T saw the same guy still dancing at 7:40...

If you care about the salad-thingy, please read the comment to this post - thanks Grace, I am a happy salad now (still a tad afraid of Big´s words not coming true...)

It looked like fun! I love those old VW vans, we had a similar one, fitting out as a "caravan" when we lived in Germany, and we travelled all over Europe with it.

Now the travelling part sure sounds like heaps of fun, too!
