Memories Thanks To Bronnie
A while ago I read Bronnie Ware´s book “Regrets of dying”, liked it and got her next book, “Your year for change” (certainly all translated, but these days are over, got a kindle now).
In week #39 she describes how she rather asks people for the way than reading a map and how once she got into an hourly chat with an elderly couple she´d asked for the way and how that ended up in an invitation to their house.
Made me remember how we got a “free tour” by a retiree, once, also.
And that´s how it started: We bought a thermometer at BIGW, in Townsville.
We stopped at a rest-area for the day.
Ingo took the thermometer and hung it on the rail of our Nissan Patrol, door open.
I sat beside the car on a camping-chair, writing a letter to my family when Ingo very seriously said: Do not close the door! I hung the thermometer there.
Fine by me, I kept writing.
Ingo came around again, I will never in my life forget the expression on his face when his hand and the door separated!!! Certainly the thermometer broke.
I can still laugh about that!!!
I thought the next day we went back to Townsville. Which was not the case, but made me remember this funny story :-)
No, we went on.
When we arrived in Broken Hill we went to BIGW again to buy a thermometer (that didn´t last long, either, thanks to very rough gravel-roads...).
And in our lunch-break we met this elderly man, chatted a bit and he in the end invited us to his lille museum, an old victorian house that was still like back then, some then 100 years ago. We got many a story told, also.
Sadly we didn´t take a single pic.
Maybe because it was all so spontaneous, so awesome, nothing you experience every day.
Btw, I asked someone on my way to the new doc the other day, too :-)
Can you relate?

:-) Famous last words: "Don't touch the . . . ! Oh well.
Sometimes a cam at hand that moment would be gold!
I thought the thermometer had broken with the high temperature, lol.
That was sweet of the old man to give you a tour of his house/museum.
A few years ago while driving down south to Denmark, we hit a kangaroo just before Walpole (1 hour from Albany) and had to stay there overnight...in fact our whole 4 day holiday, as the car was unable to be driven.
The following day we contacted a tour agent to give us a tour of the area and he took us to his house too and showed us his horses and farm.
We then had to take a bus to Albany and a plane to Perth.
Luckily it was a company car, my husband got a new one, as that one took 9 months to get repaired, as parts had to be ordered from Japan (I think).
My Mom has a habit of befriending tourists and has even invited a few to stay at their house. My dad is always saying one day she will befriend a nut case and he will kill them. Of course she's also been invited to visit these people that stay at their place, so no nut cases yet!
Now that you mention... it gets pretty hot when the car is parked!
Oh, wee, reckon we were very lucky never having hit a kangaroo. Nice adventure, though, there are some nice people out and about.
Not knowing your Mom I still can guess she has a good gut-feeling to not run into nut cases :-)
