"Greener Grass", oh, what an episode of Blue Bloods.
(Today "Magnum P.I." is on with that new guy. It´s like trying to step into Freddie´s shoes, there is but one Magnum P.I., Tom Selleck!)
In this episode Pop has a car-accident, the 4th in 2 months.
His Son Frank asks him to quit driving and they get into a huge fight.
Pop "proves" someone bumped into his car (happened to Ingo, too, and I can tell a story of that as well).
The Great-Granddaughter takes Pop´s side, Frank asks his daughter Erin for help and finally she does.
She makes the two men sit together and tells Pop she has become what she is because he always took care and that when you love somebody you also have to protect them at some point.
Frank then asks Pop to give him the car-keys.
"No."
He can´t cause he gave them to another family-member whose car broke down.
And he admits it was him causing the bump, not somebody else.
They all hug.
Kitsch to the top, but let me tell you, I had tears in my eyes.
Funny how by chance all pics but the last came blurry!
I hate driving and my 80+y-o neighbor, his late wife, my Brother, SIL... they all told me to keep on driving, but I refuse.
I have a push-bike and healthy feet and legs. And there is public transport, Ingo or colleagues for in case.
But. I can understand if you need a car to feel independent - not "old" it must be traumatic to give it up.
In this episode they showed this beautifully, also how family-love can make you cope after all.
Henry 🦁
Do you know/like that series?
I have it all on DVD so I can watch in the original 🧡
And yes. It´s but a series.
But in this broken world it is what I need sometimes.
And for now to me it´s even a bit of reality.
Despite of "the new normal" I not met one ALSTOM-colleague in person it feels like a "family". We swear, we care, we laugh. Same with Bro and Ingo is there for real.

I LOVE Magnum PI and will never watch the new one, it just wouldn't be the same. I'm watching Blue Bloods but have only just recently begun, still in the first season.
I don't drive, never have, although I once had a motorbike, small size like Australian Postmen drive. My mother in law gave up driving the same day she accidentally side swiped a parked car. Drove home and handed over the keys.
I watched the new Magnum and it was different, but tolerable. What was NOT tolerable that came out at the same time was the new MacGyver. There will never be another Richard Dean Anderson. I also watched Blue Bloods until this last year, so I should probably try to catch a few reruns.
I forgot to mention, I LOVED Selleck in the Jesse Stone series. Great small town cop with a drinking problem.
River, oh. I drove (first time at age 14, illegally) and then from age 18 practically always. But living in Braunschweig with tight parking and all I see no use.
I sneak-peeked into the new one. Boooooring, heart-less, un-funny, un-sexy.
Not for me!

Elizabeth, nah, the new one ... nah. And MacGyver has a following concept, too?! Nope, never ever!
I never knew of Jesse Stone!
...Iris, you sure know a lot more about popular culture than I do.
I haven't watched Magnum in decades and have never seen Blue Bloods. In my experience an elder giving over the car keys would never go that easily or smoothly. My dad wouldn't give up his keys. He did have a fender bender accident. His car was so old, they couldn't get parts for it, and dad didn't have the money to get the car fixed, but no one was taking his keys away from him.
Tom, I´m not sure I understand?

CJ, I think the problem is that many an elderly thinks, "aw, well, I´m so old, I´ve lived my life, no worries if I die".
But what if that person accidentially kills a young family?
OK, anybody can "drive" into that situation - but the chances are higher... maybe, from some point on.
Remakes of old tv series are never good as the original. Magnum was one of y favorite programs back when it was on. Have no interest in the newer version. I gave up driving when we moved to Ireland and don't miss it at all. I always liked driving but now I'm content to leave that to the bus drivers. :)
Bill, yes to both! :-)
Yes family matters.
Very much.
I liked Tom Selleck on Magnum. Don't watch much TV anymore. But, I have not driven our car in over a year. But, I plan to renew my driver's license this fall, b/c you never know, I might have to drive again in the future. But I hate to drive these days.
I'd love it if our public transportation options were better. I'd give up my car in a heartbeat. As it is, I'll just have a lot less independence once I'm unable to drive :(
gigi, I haven´t behind the wheel in 4-5 years...!

Divers and Sundry, the joy of living in a city and working from home!
I am thankful for both!
I've never watched that series. I did see the Jesse Stone movies. And a few years back Selleck disappeared into the role of Eisenhower in a film about the planning of D-Day.
I have never seen the other! Need to catch up.
The Jesse Stone movies are good, there is a series of them,9 all together, the first one begins with him moving to a small New England town as Chief of Police and each movie tells a part of the continuing story. Originally a set of novels by Robert B. Parker.
The new MacGyver is awful in my opinion, nowhere near as good as the original. As Blueard and Elizabeth say, there will never be another Richard Dean Anderson. I liked him in the Stargate series too as Captain Jack O'Neill.
I´ll look out for the DVDs - thank you.
Yes, there are but one for most series - reckon "young kids" would probably not like the "old characters"?
I´m happy to be old then!
Maybe kitsch but it tugs at the heartstrings. I do like that show!
Oh yeah give me Tom Selleck in anything, I am there. LOL
It's been a long time since I've seen Tom Selleck on anything really, last time I think was some episodes of Friends but he was a hunk back in the day.
