I wanna share this.
Maybe it helps you, maybe you think we´re all the dumbest!
"We" go a complicated way.
Our Tram gets documented in Spain. Alstom sits in France, yet the official language thankfully is English, but Frankfurt wants it all translated to German. Some parts come from China and my to be teamleader is Brazilian.
We have a company in Cologne to do the translation part. They use MS365.
They put layers over graphics. All good as .pdf, not in Word. Chaos there.
After asking three colleagues in hope they have another version of 365 sent it to my ESE-PC, where I have MS2013 - all good!!!!
For 2 weeks the Cologne-company tried unsuccessful to find a solution.
Talked to our proofreader about actually something else and...
OH MY LORD!!!!
It is too simple!!!!! We worked it out together.
He said: Use screenshots, problem, if there are change requests.
Me: keep versions.
DONE!!!!
Why the heck did this not hit my mind before?!
There is a (German?) saying: Sometimes there are too many trees, so you cannot see the woods.
We were laughing so hard. Or was it crying?
Just to top that. I have another project, Denmark. With people mainly from France and Poland.
The fun never stops!

You have a very interesting job-and I am thinking never boring-a good thing
Mostly, sadly also one real dumbhead that gives me loads of unneeded work!
But reckon you always have at least one ;-)
It's true! Too many times we can't see the woods for the trees. Then a solution hits us like a brick and we think "how did I not know this?" And we laugh, because it is too simple.
None of you is dumb! The job is just complicated with many parts.
I love that picture of the trees and the sunlight.
Like a brick, LOL, I like that one.
Yes, it´s complicated, esp with that Cologne-guys.
...Iris, O have always lived a rather simple life for which I'm glad. I hope that the fun never stops for you!
Great post. Our expression, you can't see the forest for the trees. And Occam's Razor, the simplest solution is usually the answer.
Tom, yes, I hope it stays fun!

CJ, I didn´t know the Razor-saying!
I'll echo what CJ said. I always love those light bulb moments.
You will soon be a linguist!
Simple is nice, less stress.
I stand in admiration of translators. And what a creative solution to your problem!
Elizabeth, yes!

magiceye, no I don´t plan on re-learning French or even learning Spanish. German and English is enough :-)

Bill, well the job went to.... me.
You have a very challenging job! I could not do what you do. Keep your sense of humor. Gigi hawaii
gigi, you could, it´s just exhausting at times ;-)
You are learning so much at this job, Iris.
RedPat, yes, after having the same project for 16 years from 2001 on this is something good for the brain, I think.
In English, the expression is, "You can't see the forest for the trees." I think we are all guilty of that from time to time.
That German saying does cross national boundaries.
Wow Iris, I could never do what you do. It takes real skill to deal with all these different people. Have a great day.
David, thank you, I went from the guts, but you understood, so that´s a good thing :-)
And I like to be corrected! :-)

William, trees all over!

Nicole, no, official language is English, so it´s... more or less easy. The French have a terrible accent, but the Spanish are OK and my Brazilian is pretty good at German!
