Back In The (To)Day

I still have to learn a lot.
The paper is beige and I thought the white would come out OK.
Black paper would not have worked for the other tools/colors - bare with me.
And/or help me!

Well, what is this about?
There was a short docu on a sweet no one who got asked knew the name of but we as kids got it offered plain EVERYWHERE!!!!

Even at the dentist!!!
Because it was so cheap.

"Fruchtkaramellen", hmmm, dunno.
They were produced in West-Germany, very, very cheap and then production went to "East-Germany" - sorry,  I think it will take generations to overcome this, despite some of my best teamleaders were from "over there" and with one I still am in daily contact.

How about you?
Do you see a united "one" Germany or also still East and West?

Anyhows, who ever knew, you can still buy these sweets, along with Halloren-Kugeln, a very well known and loved sweet from GDR , if you care have a look here (brrrr, sweet tooth went into hibernation just seeing them online. Ingo loves them...).

Anyhows, these sweets were terrible and lead you soon to the next visit at the dentist, but.... you fell for them EVERY.TIME!!!
Even sleepy-sweet-tooth-me, I remember them!!!

With this I join Erika´s Red again.

Henry 🦁

Baby Henry, yes, we also called these "Kau-Bonbon" , sweets to chew, and I wonder.. is it from the French word "bon" for "good"?
Especially dentists would be like really mean then!
Speaking of... Ingo promised ours I´ll pop in in March... 😨

...unfortunately I have a sweet tooth!

I see a united Germany now, mainly because it was a big deal when the wall came down and the 2 halves reunited. Or it was made a big deal here in the US, mainly because this country was in such a panic about communism and the Soviet Union. It's just like I see Ukraine as a nation. And I like all the fruity drawings today. What are himbeer-grapes? Kirsch are a favorite of mine. I think of kirsch liquor. Now I want some cherries-smile. Hope Saturday is a good day for you. And thank you again for adding your art to AJJ. I am having fun seeing all your drawings. hugs-Erika

Erika, it is good to learn outside of Germany we are really seen as united.
For real it will take a while still, I think.
People in the East often earn less. And are OK with it even because they also work less. Slower.

Now what is better. Less money and time and power for freetime or working long hours and being knackered afterwards...
Maybe "they" are better off?
Those who come here work like "we" do.

I think Socialism ... oh. I don´t know - we should meet in the middle.
But there is no "in the middle" because people are individuals?

I think my Nieces maybe will think of one Germany. I hope!!!!

Thank you, too - with red being one of my fav colors this is so much fun!! Hugs, too.

As Erika said, most American think of Germany as a united country. We spent lots of hours glued to the television watching the crowds when the wall came down. I'm curious how Germans feel about what's happening in Ukraine and Putin's saber rattling. Are Germans worried that Putin will make a push to get back the Iron Curtain countries? (Poland, East Germany, etc)

Fruchtkaramellen. The dentist's favorite helper 😺

CJ, yes, we are afraid. Braunschweig is not far from the former "wall" or rather "border" and even if we were far away, Putin has to be stopped!!!
We don´t want to go back to USSR.
We are worried, also.. .what is left of Ukraine??? It´s broken.

I am that old I remember how it all was before we were "united", and how it was when we were, the high frustration on both sides!!
Us Wessies working, the Ossis not willing cause not used to.

Ingo ordered (certainly!!) at that shop I found but "sadly" not these Kau-Bonbons.
It comes in a huuuuge bag. For a mini-price. But it would´ve been childhood memories.

And each time the sweet tooth wakes up it would say, nahhh, I go back to sleep! 🤣

I always wonder if there were previous divides between the people of what became East and West Germany. The first unification was only in the 19th century, before t hat there were many separate political units with their own governments, customs, and even different dialects of the German language. Your dislike of the “others” seems so deep.

Yes, I commented a couple of times in yesterday's post, and then this morning before that comment. Blogger never stopped having problems, because every day I'm still finding real comments in the spam folder.

I love sweets but try to limit myself with them, it's the same with crisps. With the crisps, I crave the salt but limit myself there too. Limits, you can't live without them. :)

William, nothing even ends up in my spam folder!!!
Blogger is like a nasty 3-y-old!!

Bill, we also need to ENJOY life. (Sorry for screaming!).

I just see Germany, never think about East or West.
I remember similar bonbons, rectangular in shape and when you sucked through the outer crunchy part the centre was a bit chewy. I haven't seen any in decades. I don't remember any dentist here ever giving out sweets, most likely they gave a toothbrush for kids and nothing for adults.

I've never heard of them, are they like dried fruit or fruit sweets?

I laughed that you "fall for them every time." We have things like that here, too. You say, "never again" and then boom!
