Since I was 14 years old I ordered a "Ten without ham" - no idea of the real name of this pizza anymore, I loved it except for warm ham (I love it now).
So many memories of also having the pizza inside with family and friends...
When I still lived in my hometown or came for a visit I often ordered this.

My Bro knew the phone number by heart and once even my Mum called them and ordered a "Ten without ham" - #10 was something different since who knows when but they answered, "can get cold, right, goes to Braunschweig, right?"
(it´s a 60km-drive plus search for a parking space, that takes a while)
When I came in personally to get it they always gave me proud smiles.
Not really Italian, though Nico is Italian, but they made it for the German gusto.
And I grew up with it:
Hmmm.... so sad I didn´t have it in ages.
I could always eat only one half.
Bro said in these last days there was always a long queue, offered anyways to get me one, but how get it to Braunschweig - he has too much to do.
I wrote a postcard to Da Nico, saying thank you.

Nico never learned proper German to speak but understood.
Reckon they now go back to beautiful Italy (his wife is German).
They must´ve earned either a lot of money or look super-young and are old...
I didn´t expect retirement so soon.
I will never again have a Ten without ham.
I think I keep the title in honor of them, my hometown and family....
Still a sad thought.

Christine, well it´s a "Childhood"-memory, but yes, sad Nico closed. Reckon they have no kids (never saw one) or they have other plans...

I must admit I always did wonder what your blog title meant! It all makes sense now, but what a shame they are closing down. Keep your wonderful memories :)
I don't have any memories of food places from my childhood, so if they are still there or not, I don't know. I do know Port Pirie has changed so much now, I would be surprised if anything I remembered was still there.
Perhaps you could learn to make your own 10 without ham now?

With a behind the blog story like this, you have to keep the title. It's always a bit sad when a favorite place closes down, but you still have the memories of how great things were.

Oh how sad, no more #10 without ham!!! There was a restaurant in Montreal where I used to eat breakfast, it was a tiny little "greasy spoon" diner that only sat 12 people at the counter. There was always a HUGE lineup! During the 90's, the owner retired and left it for his son to manage and he basically ruined the business and it no longer exists...no more "Scramble with extra hash browns"! I do love your cherries! Too bad the trees had to come down!! ♥
What a bummer, your favorite restaurant is closing! A few months before the time the world went crazy in 2020, I began making home-made pizza. I had attempted this before with little success but I had great luck with the trying it then and ever since I've been making delicious home-made pizza from scratch that we think is better than our local favorite pizza shop. I'm quite content to make it for us quite frequently these days. Some good things came out of the world's crisis such as a new fondness for food creations. Your cherries look nice. I plan to link up this Thursday. Hopefully, I'll see ya at the art date!
