Sad... or for two people happy news:
"Fertig haben" means "we´re done" and relates to a very powerful speech of soccer-coach Giovanni Trapattoni from 1998... you can see it here, if you like. But you need to understand German with a heavy Italian accent 🤣
No, I have to put it in here, I can always laugh my head off!
He is good (no soccer-fan here, but he speaks of .. yells of
being a TEAM!)
The
"subtitles" are total nonesense as they just give away what he says, no
the German "translation"... if you understand German this is like
really funny, and so sweet.
See the camera-guy grinning in the end, LOL.
This is a classic!!!
Since I was 14 years old I ordered a "Ten without ham" - no idea of the real name of this pizza anymore, I loved it except for warm ham (I love it now).
So many memories of also having the pizza inside with family and friends...
When I still lived in my hometown or came for a visit I often ordered this.
(Pic: our former apartment)
My Bro knew the phone number by heart and once even my Mum called them and ordered a "Ten without ham" - #10 was something different since who knows when but they answered, "can get cold, right, goes to Braunschweig, right?"
(it´s a 60km-drive plus search for a parking space, that takes a while)
When I came in personally to get it they always gave me proud smiles.
Not really Italian, though Nico is Italian, but they made it for the German gusto.
And I grew up with it:
Hmmm.... so sad I didn´t have it in ages.
I could always eat only one half.
Bro said in these last days there was always a long queue, offered anyways to get me one, but how get it to Braunschweig - he has too much to do.
I wrote a postcard to Da Nico, saying thank you.
Do you have some of those, too?
Restaurants from your early years and you nearly cry upon such news?
Nico never learned proper German to speak but understood.
Reckon they now go back to beautiful Italy (his wife is German).
They must´ve earned either a lot of money or look super-young and are old...
I didn´t expect retirement so soon.
I will never again have a Ten without ham.
I think I keep the title in honor of them, my hometown and family....
Still a sad thought.
Also no more cherries from my family´s garden as Bro had to cut down both cherry-trees... with which I join River´s Art and Dinner Date: Fruit...
Fading memories....

So sorry your favourite pizza place is closing! Great job on the cherries, sad they had to be cut down.
Christine, well it´s a "Childhood"-memory, but yes, sad Nico closed. Reckon they have no kids (never saw one) or they have other plans...
Thank you, the cherries were just a quick 05:10 am-sketch this morning when I saw Rain´s prompt!
I can't see you changing the name of your blog just because Nico and his wife are retiring. I think it is in honor of his pizza, which is making me hungry.
Sending Nico a postcard is very sweet and thoughtful
. I'm thinking about changing my blogtitle too
Thinking!
I must admit I always did wonder what your blog title meant! It all makes sense now, but what a shame they are closing down. Keep your wonderful memories :)
I don't have any memories of food places from my childhood, so if they are still there or not, I don't know. I do know Port Pirie has changed so much now, I would be surprised if anything I remembered was still there.
Perhaps you could learn to make your own 10 without ham now?
I like pizza. Now I know what your blog title means. You have wonderful childhood memories. Sorry about your cherry trees.
...I've never understood what Ten without Ham meant.
Elizabeth, yes, I leave it as an honor to them :-)
And I make you hungry, LOL.
_____
Bertiebo, yes, how could I not! How the treated my Mum, was so special. She giggled all the time about the cold Pizza :-)
I keep the title.
____
Margaret, you are right! In the "About"-section on the upper right I just wrote "The title..."
Maybe I should change that. The old blogger-community "decided" this
____
River, sad when places change too much!
Nah, I don´t see a chance to copy Nico´s recipe. It was special. Also he had a real Pizza oven with fire etc...
Aw, well memories :-)
____
Nancy, I think the hint on the upper right in the "About"-section really is always unread, LOL...
____
Tom... The "About"-section - no one reads this! Ohhhh.... thanks you still stopped by!
I always wondered about the name for your blog-now I know-hugs. I would keep it for old time's sake and that pizza looks yummy too.
Love your cherries
I think no one ever reads the "About"-section on the upper right, LOL.
I always do... Glad you came back anyways, Kathy!
With a behind the blog story like this, you have to keep the title. It's always a bit sad when a favorite place closes down, but you still have the memories of how great things were.
Yes, I keep the title! And I hope the taste stays in my brain, too!
Lovely cherries, but how sad that both cherry trees are gone now.
Debra, yes. They were old and could´ve just tumbled over (they were huge).
Sorry to hear your favourite pizza place is closing.
I luv your cherry art.
Happy you dropped by my blog.
Much❤love
The pizza looks great. You must keep the blog title to honour the memories they gave you.
Gillena, thank you, well I hope Nico and his wife enjoy retirement in wonderful Italy....
Thank you, the cherries were but a mini-sketch :-)
RedPat, yes, I will keep it! To Nico!
It's nice to know the story behind your blog title, thanks for sharing it.
Ten Without Ham, Brilliant
Cheers
I always wondered why you had that blog title, so I'm really glad you explained it. And I think you need to keep just for the memory of something you loved. And I'm glad you showed us the pizza too. Hope it was a great FRiday. I'm a little late getting by today.hugs-Erika
Bill, oh, it´s all in the "About"-section... no one reads that, LOL...
_____
Padre, thank you - I still cannot comment on your blog! :-(
Tried with different browsers and all...
____
Erika, the "Bout"-section explains it! I mostly, when I visit someone new, read that. I think I am the only one, LOL.
Friday, 05:11 am now. The day will hopefully good, and for you, too, hugs
It's hard to see a place you love close. The 10 without ham pizza looks scrumptious. I hope Nico and his wife enjoy retirement. Have a great weekend, Iris!
Oh how sad, no more #10 without ham!!! There was a restaurant in Montreal where I used to eat breakfast, it was a tiny little "greasy spoon" diner that only sat 12 people at the counter. There was always a HUGE lineup! During the 90's, the owner retired and left it for his son to manage and he basically ruined the business and it no longer exists...no more "Scramble with extra hash browns"! I do love your cherries! Too bad the trees had to come down!! ♥
What a bummer, your favorite restaurant is closing! A few months before the time the world went crazy in 2020, I began making home-made pizza. I had attempted this before with little success but I had great luck with the trying it then and ever since I've been making delicious home-made pizza from scratch that we think is better than our local favorite pizza shop. I'm quite content to make it for us quite frequently these days. Some good things came out of the world's crisis such as a new fondness for food creations. Your cherries look nice. I plan to link up this Thursday. Hopefully, I'll see ya at the art date!
