In a meeting, doorbell.
I thought it´s the mailman again, as they always ring our bell and thought... ignore or go?
Luckily I went. Poor fella just does his job...
Police officer.
Those who were not home likely got their door opened by firefighters, W guessed...
As the cellar was on fire (and we live ground floor, I panicked a bit).
You know, when sh#t happens then it really does.
It´s frickin´ cold and no one sees me, hence I wore my superwarm PJs - grey with hearts.
Embarrassing 🤣
Grabbed keys and phone and that was that.
Not every officer was that nice, though. One neighbor stood in light house-shoes and PJ plus jacket outside...
W offered me money, so I can buy something warm to drink!
-9C / 15F!!! We all had to wait outside for 1 1/2 hours.
Reckon I looked afraid, one police-officer asked me if I´m OK.
Even more embarrassing...
There was A LOT OF SMOKE - the picture does not show it.
And it did not stop!
Sh#t, fire freaks me out.
I didn´t want to take more pics.
Press was there, too.
As Ingo was one of them earlier in life I will ask later (forgot yesterday) what exactly is in there (yes, I could google, but I wanna learn first hand).
They blocked two streets, the whole brigade went out - that is frightening!!!
Geez.
I always wanted to have an emergency kit packed, you know, all documents etc.
And there I was, not even my purse in hand, despite it has an assigned place on the way out.
Did I mention panic?
1 1/2 hours in the frickin´ cold. Not even Gurri kept me warm. W tried, that was sweet.
My calendar today says farmers state if January is cold we get a hot summer. OK, I "suffer" then now 😉
Though, I really thought of people in Ukraine, be it Ukrainians or Russians, it must be hard without electricity and all...
Ingo even heard of the fire on the radio...
And a BIG thank you to the police officer who put the cellar keys back in the mailbox!
I was first so he requested ours...
In all the panic I´d totally forgotten about that and would´ve wondered big!
Henry 🦁
Thankfully at least it did not snow...
Contacted firefighters and police to verify I was forced to leave the house cause Ingo thinks then the employer pays, not me. Wish me luck. I´m in the minus already, don´t wanna add more!
Teamleader C said she knows nobody else who runs into weird stuff like that "all the time".
If you were sensible you could smell a wee bit the smoke.
Better safe then sorry, huh?
Female K asked if we´re OK and sent me this link....
Do you have an emergency-thingy at hand for in case?

...thankfully, you are safe!
Glad you are safe!
Oh my gosh Iris. That sounds scary. And cold. And you were lucky that the whole building didn't go up into flames. I'm glad you could change your pants, and are safe. That is most important. hugs-Erika
Tom, yes, all good.
____
magiceye, our firefighters are nearby :-)

Erika, yes, I was freezing the rest of the day...
Quite scary it was, but all good now, I think everybody could return. Hugs
Ohhhhh Iris, that is so scary. I am with you fire freeks me out. I am so glad you are safe and hopefully warm by now. Being safe is the most important thing. Hugs my friend.
Nicole, yes. Freaky and glad Ingo is no firefighter anymore! I warmed up eventually :-) Hugs back
What a horrible story, Iris. I am glad that you are alright. Did they not bring a bus by for all of the residents to sit in and stay warm? That is what they do here in those circumstances.
RedPat THAT would´ve been a great idea! No, we walked to keep ourselves a bit warm...
Brrr!!! and Scary!!!
Very, very scary. So glad you are safe. Are you able to move back into your house? Hopefully no smoke or water damage.
Big Hugs
Divers and Sundry: Yes ;-)

Spare Parts and Pics, all good, no damage in our condo. But, yes, it was scary.

Padre, thank you.
My comment got lost :(
I am sorry! Happens to me also sometimes! :-(
But, well it is for free... (blobber, I mean)
LOL, I meant blogger, but in this context blobber fits 🤣
Wow -- that's seriously scary, Iris. I'm glad you are all right and that there was no damage to your home but it had to be worrisome. And very cold. I'm glad they let you get dressed. That's good that they would verify your exit for work so you weren't docked. Boy, makes you think.
I really DO need to pull together a better emergency kit. Posts like this are a good reminder. In my head I know what I would bring -- but that doesn't help you pull it together in a hurry.
Oh my goodness! What a thing to happen! I am glad all was well in the end, but an hour and a half out in the cold? I think I'd have been a basket case the rest of the day.
There was a fire in an apartment building near my placecsome weeks back. Saw the smoke billowing and fire trucks arriving. Looked worse than it turned out to be.
I've been through one house fire. I hope never again.
