A Farmers Place

Let me show you how Farmers not really takes over but merges with the XI. Commandment. Reckon some things were just too much fun to let go of, like the bongo-lady above.

As well as the open area in front of the men´s/women´s rooms:

Has nothing at all to do with how you expect a farm might look like.
But they sure added their style, too:

This is the main door leading to the public loos and this door is for staff:

Ingo took the cam to the men´s section and...

Also this was to be found only in the men´s place!

Hey, what about equal rights, huh?!

Outside you find huge pics of a farmer´s life:

Let´s see if we pay another visit...
All in all not a bad place. Though I´m a tad sad the pictures of Adriano Celentano have not survived!

I leave you with another Lion-find:

Résumé Of Crap (Kind-a)

Last Saturday started so well, it should´ve been a sign, it was suspicious.
Ingo wanted to buy an immersion heater and against all odds the lady in the second shop not only knew what that thing is, no, she sent us to her colleague who offered three sorts of them!
Who would´ve guessed these old-fashioned tools are still available?

And it came with a funny warning we found out when having a refreshing beer at Schadt´s:

"Don´t use it with aggressive fluids (beer is one!)."
What Ingo needs an immersion heater for?
He wanted to make Onsen eggs and also bought a thermometer that switches the heater on and off to guarantee a constant temperature.

After a crap-Saturday Sunday started with this:

Too long, too hard.

We then went to see a few cool cars:

(In German these cars are called "oldtimers" btw! But watching soccer on huge screens together outside is called "public viewing", too...)

And it was nice to see that people here still have trust in each other (the window to that side was closed, though):

Another act of kindness btw happened on Monday:
I walked towards a man in his 20´s who suddenly jumped off his pushbike, more or less threw it away and made a dash onto the 4-lane road (that showed green lights for pedestrains).
It all went so quick!
On the very first lane was a heavy, older woman who´d lost control over her wheelchair and he ran for help.
(Am I glad he was there, otherwise it would´ve been my turn and I bet with my stupid arm I wouldn´t have managed).
I think mostly Braunschweig-people are honest and helpful, don´t you agree?
A good feeling.

Oh, we found another lion:

And to come back to the title... the footy game was a true pain to witness.
So many unnessesary failures and it just didn´t seem to end.
Was it karma??? A whole weekend of "crap"? ;-)
I sure do hope the next makes up for this!

Do you have such times, too, now and then?

There Is No XI-th Commandment (But A Farmers)

Friday I asked Ingo to come up with a route for a power walk.
Our doc "instructed" Ingo - through me - to walk with me every day.
Now I understand that working 8 hours in 29C+ can be really tiring, so I let go of it. But Friday was cooler and Ingo is always home early.

Ingo needed something from the hardware store, it was late and hence we wanted to have a pizza at XI. Gebot nearby at Roggenmühle.

But... That restaurant is no more - their Pizza was great, maybe their choice of beer, König Pilsener (according to their waiter comes out of the tap stale already) was the reason for closure?

Instead the place is called Farmers Braunschweig and they have craft beer, so... no loss (we thought).
Haha, have a look at their website - all Germans are heavily tattooed and have a crazy look when drinking beer! (you might need to click through the pics)

It´s made a fun place for sure!

The menu is a sheet of paper printed in a way that if you read and hold it up the other side is upside down - sadly no pic as they take it away once you´ve chosen and I didn´t dare to take a pic of the family later. Laws, right?
Fun idea it is!
Also this name for a vegetarian burger:

The pizza-names (haha, clever how I got out of this one, right? In German they fight over plural: Is it "Pizzas" or "Pizzen"), the names are funny, too:

Not all names have a meaning to me, but Wyatt Earp certainly does thanks to Star Trek´s Spectre of the Gun (one of my favs) :-)

After ordering we got this:

Sadly sweet - out of politeness I had some, though. Big failure!

Tell me: Could you eat this huge thing by yourself???

It wasn´t as yummy as the place before them offered, either... and I was more than just full, gah, stupid popcorn!

Without problems we were allowed to share.
There are restaurants that have meals like: kids, normal, retirees and they won´t allow to share a normal one nor give either of us the retiree (or kids)-meal.
I think times are a changing with the next generation, thankfully!
How about in your place?

I won´t overdo this, so pics from their place follow in another post.

Yes, we eat. Don´t you, too ;-)
My goodness, seems like I blog about food all the time lately!

From Braunschweig To London

What is Big Ben doing in a mural with Henry the Lion? A British phone booth and the famous London bus?

Well, Henry played a game - and lost big.

His cousin, Emperor Barbarossa asked him for help in a crusade in Italy in 1176 - and Henry declined.

Barbarossa had more power and made Henry go to England in exile in return.

Here you also find the Brunonia, the biggest Quadriga in Germany with some massive 25,8 tons and 9,20 m as highest point. Brunonia herself is 5,30m tall - some woman, huh?

The long story (in German) is to be found here.
Seesh. Blogging / murals make me learn the more rather unknown stuff even!

Mural for i-unit group, to be found in Steintorwall.

Taking part again in Sami´s COLOURFULWORLD Monday Murals :-)

If It Wasn´t For The Aussies

.. or "Some Days Are Crap" (Fun video at the end).
... or... "Germans Fail (Again) To Organize".. Whatever, it was frustrating!
It was buskers-festival again, the third time.

I love (good) buskers! We do.
The first festival came with... lame buskers. Nothing inspiring at all.
The second one had international but you never knew when or where the artists are, despite there was a map.

This time we saw this...

Mombé was, according to plan, at main stage from 02:40 - 03:00 p.m.. But pic above was all we got.

You know. "We" make the time and I am punctual per sé, Ingo even more so.
In the end another band came onto stage and when I asked I was told a lame excuse by the staff and where to find the band instead.
And we went.
And they took their time like forever (we left and not only us).

See, we were full of hope and again purchased their stuff:

The girl where we bought it was dumb as well.
Ingo asked, handing over a €20-note, can you give me back small change for the buskers? - she agreed and gave €5-notes. Guess we wanted notes, huh, not like... €1 coins... for crying out loud, just stop using your brain!

€5 per item was actually too much and we won´t repeat this, not at the beginning at least!
We had...

Maps and timetables... useless.

There was...

All neatly listed and described, but, alas...

Which one is where???

We ended up at Schadt´s for a beer and went on to Herman´s for another yummy burger, but, again... ALAS!
Thanks to TU-Night they only opened at 06:00 pm, which means... all too late for Ingo!
So we went to the grocery store and got some sad crap and were more than a tad disappointed!
Again.

Thanks, Aussie guys, you were the only fun ones we were able to find:

What a crap Saturday! (At least we were together and healthy, too).

Just A Suggestion It Was

You´re surprised to find a pic of a dog in this place?
Yes, I´m afraid of dogs, but I had not a chance!

I´d bought a salad, mushrooms, pepper, yummy mozzarella... and suddenly salad was nothing I wanted to have for dinner.
I mumbled, rather jokingly, how about a burger at Herman´s ?.

And guess what!

And this dog, I might even call it cute... is very, very self-confident, so to say! :-)

We didn´t take the Herman´s-burger but the one with bacon and...

The bacon was so crisp, sooo yummy.
The waiter said the "secret" is that no additional fat is used.
And I was always wondering why TV-cooks put oil in the pan when frying bacon, always thought, the bacon HAS fat itself.
So, next week I plan to cook something with bacon and sure without additional fat.

Yum And Honest People

I just couldn´t walk past these, don´t they look yummy? They taste just like they should!
In my family´s garden we had two cherry trees, we ate straight from the tree - these I did wash, though.
And yes, past-tense, both trees got sick and are gone.

After getting up early and doing my training I made my way to the new doc.

I was a tad early, but found a nice place to wait:

Very cosy, no?
Really a beautiful place!

But to be honest, I was glad to see this:

... and I won´t come back.
I fail to understand why someone would upload a picture of herself from ca 20 years ago, that´s only confusing!
She mixed up a lot, had a chair even I hardly got "out of" - what if you´re a tad older, are pregnant or something like that? What I expect from her... dunno? Never done this before! She didn´t listen, mixed up dates and in the end she told me she does group-therapy only (on her website it said "also").
45 minutes wasted!

On my way back (after a yummy sub at Subway) I went to Gmyrek to get Ingo "his" Bratwurst.
The trainee was there again and she said to me, yes, I went and had a look also... (me ?). Her: REWE doesn´t have this Bratwurst anymore, nor does real!.
This is a village, I tell ya! She remembered me.

On my way home a couple in their 60´s came into my direction, followed by a man in his 20´s, calling excuse me, excuse me!.
The lady turned around and... he handed her a 20-€-note with the words, you just lost this!.

I smiled the rest of my way home - there are still honest people here!
