Better Late Than Never

How often did I hear that story about Ingo being the only child without a school cone on his first day at school.

Ha! No more!
OK, it wasn´t the first day of "adult school", but the second semester, but what the heck, huh?

His first thought was it´s for Niece, who starts school in August. I may be early with pressies, but sure as hell Niece would not like a blue school cone with a pirate - she´s a pink Princess-type-of-girl!

The content was only partially adequate, too ;-)

Yes, I know, silly.

Silly, btw...

Still it was fun, and no he didn´t take it to that place!

Is the school cone something that the all kids get on their first day of school? Does it come with pressies inside or you have to buy little things to put inside?

Actually every kid gets one. You buy them empty or make them yourselves and fill them actively, too.
Ingo asked me what was in mine, but I don´t remember! To me it was nothing outstanding, every kid had one, we were all nervous about school and new stuff altogether.

I think it was wrong what his parents did.
They built a house and were short of money. Buuut...
Making one of your own in the evening, fill it with fruit and Ingo would´ve been a normal starter.

This has hurt him obviously, otherwise he wouldn´t tell me everytime he sees/saw one.

Well, tell Ingo that I didn't get one either. All I cared about as a kid going to school was finding my locker. :-)

Now that´s something we don´t have here, lockers!

Thanks Iris. Interesting custom and I bet the kids are thrilled with their cone. I agree with you, I suppose it couldn't cost that much to put a few things inside a cone, so their child feels the same as all the others.

Agreed, Sami. Actually I find it quite sad this school-cone hasn´t spread around the world.
I (certainly) was very nervous and anxious and the prospect of the cone helped me through it.

I love the different traditions around the world! You two are such fun :)

:-) Thank you, Grace. Did you have a tradition for school beginners in Scotland/SA?

No, sadly we didn't Iris :(
