2013, after nearly 20 years, Ingo and I married.
In Germany you wear the wedding ring on your right hand, but we got married in Perth, Western Australia, and hence wear it on the left hand.
Where I had actually the ring I got from my Dad for my 30th Birthday.
He let my Mum engrave the date not of my birth but of my Birthday and Aussies read the 1 in cursive as 7.
And that was the day he lost his fight against cancer that exact year, July 19th.
The ring broke, as it was of bad quality (industrial), the diamond got nearly lost and in the end my Bro made the ring with new material - pure white gold ( he is, amongst other, a goldsmith, also).
I hate the color of gold, my Dad, as a goldsmith, loved it, we had some fights and this was the alternative that made us both happy, white-gold.
Now... the right hand - if you work with it - is "bigger" than the left and hence I could not switch the ring over.
I asked Bro to make it wider to fit, but he never had the nerve or time as the diamond makes it difficult.

My Dad brought shark teeth from a holiday as lucky charms and I asked Bro to make some jewlery from it, but again... having two kids etc, etc, he never found the time.
So I asked to give it all just back next time we meet - and he did.
And he said I lost weight the ring sure fits.
I didn´t believe him and it would´ve been embarassing if he was wrong, buuut:
He was right, Dad is with me again :-)

Both our rings were too big and Bro had a real hard time making them smaller - he hung on the machine with all his weight, too!

It is beautiful! I did not know about wearing your wedding ring on your right hand in Germany. I used to pick up sharks teeth all the time when I was a kid growing up near the ocean, but they were usually black, not white.
I don't think I ever noticed that Germans use their wedding rings on the right and not on the left.
Losing weight on the fingers...never noticed that either :)
I might still have something made with an animal tooth and was encased in gold with a little loop to hang on a necklace.

Yes, always worn on the right, that´s why people never thought I´m married at all.
I saw some jewlery in Freo with leather and a shark tooth, hope to find the pic and imitate that.

Thank you, Jeanie, we got those rings last minute, too. In Australia, unlike Germany, men and women do NOT have the same ring... drama finding a pair! ;-)
Oh, those teeth are sharp, I thought of a chain-hanger rather. I´ve seen it but can´t find the pic!
Who knew the fingers were different sizes on the left and right hand! I wish I'd bought my own wedding and engagement rings way back then Iris, P picked and they were gold. I don't wear them anymore for ages, I have a simple white gold ring.. much better 😊 I think the shark teeth would look good on leather straps, one for you and one for Ingo!
